4.0 out of 5 stars Must disagree w/the other unhappy reviewers. This was a big hit at Christmas for us!
I'm going to review the product on its own merits. Simply said, my daughter loves it and it was a big hit this Christmas. She turns the clock hands, checks out the different visuals behind each hour, and loves the music, winding it up to play again and again. It is a simple toy - and in this era of electronics and "bells and whistles" toys, I personally think this is a...

I own the original teaching clock and still have it, my daughter loves mine and so I bought her this one thinking it would make a good replacement - WRONG! This toy is a complete piece of junk in every way! The stickers are peeling off the plastic (yes, plastic not wood like the original), the clock doesn't sound like the original in that it's lost it's characteristic TICK TOCK sound that made it so sweet, and within seconds of testing the toy out, we were able to somehow break the clock's ability to keep the hands and clock face spinning as the music played. This is a horrendous p.o.s. do not waste your time, we are taking ours back. BOOOO!

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing quality, December 17, 2007

I agree with the other review of this item. I had this clock as a child and the original is far superior to this version. The decals immediately started peeling off and I too miss the tick tock sound of the original. They cut too many corners with this product. Very cheaply reproduced. Will look for an original on ebay.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not an identical replica, December 8, 2007
= Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

I was disappointed when I received this toy clock. I love the original wooden one and was hoping it was a very close match.

This new remake is made of light weight plastic and the decals are not one solid piece on the base which leaves open seams. The sides of the bottom base contains no decals at all.

Another downfall is that this clock does not have the tick-tock sound like the original. It does play the same song but is missing that wonderful tick-tock melody in the background.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money....., July 1, 2008

When I saw this clock in our local Target store, it bought back memories of my Dad teaching me how to tell the time over 25 years ago. I just had to buy it for my daughter who is 13 months. We got it home and she loved it. When it stopped playing the tune she would scream at it for us to wind it up again and again.......and then the hands stopped turning, and then the disc with the sun and moon on stopped turning. We had it 2 days.
It is made from cheap plastic and has stickers on which don't stay on. I am writing to Fisher Price to let them know that this is junk. I am returning this to the store today and will be buying an old one from another outlet unless my Dad can find my old one which I know was still working when we put it in our loft 2 years ago!

1.0 out of 5 stars They don't make 'em like they used to...., June 25, 2008

The excitement of find this classic toy turned out to be very short-lived. Those who had the original as a kid will be very disappointed by Fisher Price. The sturdy wood has been replaced by cheap plastic, the decals were peeling off right out of the box, and we never did get the clock face to turn correctly. We returned ours immediately.

Shame on Fisher Price for allowing such a cheap product. While modern times say that plastic parts will replace original wood, they could have put a little more effort into making sure it at least worked propery. Stay away from this one!

I wanted something for my daughter that would be classic, special and something that would last. When I saw this clock, I remembered how much I loved it as a child. Boy, they don't make things like they used to.
The hands on the clock have already failed and do not turn with the music. The outside of the clock is also not standing up to little hands. The paper covering the frame is peeling off. I am not pleased with the quality of this toy and will probably contact the company.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, But Non-Moving Hand Is Fixable, December 30, 2009
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Fisher - Price® Music Box Teaching Clock (Toy)
I had the original version of this toy years ago. It was a hand-me-down, but its still functional, albeit in storage halfway across the country. I came across this re-make in a local Target and bought it immediately for our 20 month old son for Christmas. As you've been able to figure out from other reviews, this is indeed NOT the original clock. Its not made of wood, but cheaper plastic. The stickers don't seem to have very good adhesive on them, and it is indeed missing that "tick tock" sound that was such a trademark of the original.

Much to my annoyance, I discovered that technically this toy is not even made by Fisher-Price...its made (in China) by some company I never heard of called Basic Fun (even though the box has FP logos all over it, and even references the FP Factory in East Aurora, NY...again, while actually being made in CHINA). How they legally get away with this I'm not sure, because this screams of false advertising / product misrepresentation to me. Maybe Basic Fun is a subsidiary of FP or Mattel, who knows. Point being, there is a certain level of quality expectation that you associate with the FP name. Bad move on FP's part to have their name so prominently featured on a sub-par product which they apparently have nothing to do with, other than licensing the original design.

Like others have said, after a mere five days now of gentle use, the stickers have started to peel a little bit and yes...the hands stopped turning along with the music. I was winding it up and heard a 'CLUNK,' after which the hands stopped turning with the picture. HOWEVER....I was able to fix the problem.

Those of you whose hands have also stopped turning...try this. Hold the winder in back so that it wont turn. Then, while holding the winder in pkace, gently turn the center knob on the face of the clock that controls the long minute hand counter-clockwise until you feel it starting to tighten. Eventually it'll stop turning when its completely tightened, like a screw. Now the clock should work perfectly again. If the hands / picture don't move at all, its overtightened. Just loosen it a quarter-turn. Seems you have to periodically re-tighten the hand.

So because I was able to fix it, I don't consider the purchase a total loss. Still, it absolutely shouldn't break after less than a week, and I certainly shouldn't have to regularly tighten anything on a toy that's designated for ages 1+. But my son loves it so I'll just keep fixing it until he gets bored with it...because despite its flaws its still a charming toy, and he loves clocks. Its about as reasonable a facsimile to the original as I should have probably expected to find these days. Still, I will follow in others footsteps and complain directly to the company about this toy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst toy EVER and NOT a Fisher Price toy. Would give it 0 stars if possible, February 11, 2009
By
Detroit Girl (Detroit, MI United States) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Fisher - Price® Music Box Teaching Clock (Toy)
Please be warned that this is NOT A FISHER PRICE TOY. Even though the FP logo and quality standards are PROMINENTLY displayed on the box in SIX different places, this toy is designed and manufactured by Sababa Toys, a company that is now out-of-business.

My children received this for Christmas, and it stopped working completely within 2 weeks - both rotating dial and music box. They played with it all of 4 times, it was not a heavily used item.

We called customer service and the line had been disconnected. Sababa Toys website does not accept any customer service inquiries (and has not been updated since 2007).

We then called Fisher-Price and were told that the Fisher-Price Music Box Teaching Clock was a licensed product to Sababa Toys, and that since FP did not design or manufacture the toy, they were unable to provide a replacement. The FP rep tried to contact Sababa Toys, herself, using their direct number and learned they were out-of-business.

They offered a voucher for the purchase price of the toy. So, it wasn't a complete wash, but we're still extremely displeased with this toy and with Sababa Toys for the false advertising (The FP logo and quality seal are featured prominently on the packaging in no less than 6 different places) and also with FP for licensing their name to such garbage.

She turns the clock hands, checks out the different visuals behind each hour, and loves the music, winding it up to play again and again. It is a simple toy - and in this era of electronics and "bells and whistles" toys, I personally think this is a good thing. It is easily carried from room to room and plays a very pleasant tune which brings back fond memories from my childhood. It's a toy that encourages interaction and conversation - a great starting off point to the learning of telling time. One point I agree on w/the other reviewers is the stickers on the side. They are easily pulled up and any kid including my own will want to pick and pull at them. I checked and my daughter seems to have already started doing so. Definitely something that needs to be fixed for the next go around, Fisher Price! I'd definitely buy it again, even w/the peeled stickers.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Complete Waste of Money, October 6, 2008

I grew up with the original version of this toy and my kids still play with it and love it when they visit their grandparents. When I saw this one on the shelves I was delighted. The original had been beloved by so many kids in our family and was still in perfect working order after decades of hard use. The current version, sadly, is a complete waste of money. It is made of cheap plastic and the stickers were coming off the product before we removed it from the box. It broke the first day while my kids were playing with it as it was made to be played with -- not abusively. I returned it immediately. What is particularly offensive about this product is that the packaging goes out of its way to imply that consumers are buying a product that is identical to the classic they remember from childhood. Nothing could be further from the truth. I would have given the product zero stars had this review program allowed it.
