5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Tea Set
I searched all over for a tea set that my 2-year-old daughter could actually use. This one is wonderful! 2.0 out of 5 stars Great toy but you cannot put liquid in it!!!
BEWARE! I got this for my 2 year old's birthday and she was immediately in love with it. The problem is that the teacups each have 2 small HOLES near the top of the cup!! Which means that when a child tries to drink real "tea," the liquid drips all over their shirt and the floor!

I searched all over for a tea set that my 2-year-old daughter could actually use. This one is wonderful! The set is sized just right -- the cups hold enough that she (and I) can actually drink out of them, the teapot holds enough to pour liquid into all four cups, the teapot is easy to pour, and the cups are easy to hold. To top is off, it's a really pretty set, has a very well designed, easy to use tray, and is made of super durable molded plastic! Not to mention then cream and sugar set, spoons you could actually use if you wanted to, and a very reasonable price.

I was concerned about the "pouring" noise making us crazy as it kept going off when I wrapped the gift, but found that in the course of normal play it's not bothersome. Just store the gift flat until it's unwrapped. My daughter found it really intriguing to unwrap a gift that was singing.

My daughter has a lot of fun playing with this toy and serving all her stuffed friends. It's on my gift list for all the little girls I know.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hours of fun, February 12, 2002

My daughter received this for her second birthday and it has been a favourite ever since. The cups, saucers and spoons are just the right size for little hands (and not too bad for parents hands as well if you are playing along). The teapot is cute and makes a twinkling noise when you "pour" or plays the song "I'm a little teapot" when you press the button on top. It also comes with a milk jug and sugar bowl. All the things you need for a wonderful afternoon tea. Everything fits neatly on the tray and my daughter doesn't seem to have too much trouble carrying it around when serving tea to me and her special doll. This is a wonderful tea set for play, not too many pieces and made by Fisher Price so you know it's going to last.

I called Fisher Price and was told that this was a new "European regulation"--something to do with kids not being able to drown themselves in a cup... They said that every teapot sold since MAY 2007 has the holes in it. Also the set is allegedly not meant to have liquid in it, even though the directions that came with it do not say that, and even say to protect play surfaces from liquid. I said, ok, but we don't live in Europe, can I order replacement cups? and said no, they are all made that way now, and actually told me to try looking for an older model at Big Lots, Ollies, or other closeout stores.

Have you ever seen a kid that didn't want to put water in a teacup? My daughter had it open for 10 minutes before she ran to the sink to fill it up! Then she had water all over the place! I recommend that you keeping looking if you want a fun teaset. This one would get 5 stars from me if it didn't have HOLES in it!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

My 3 year old and 18 month old were so excited to get this tea set for Christmas. Within minutes my 3 year old wanted to fill it with water and fill all the cups. That's when we discovered two holes in the side of each cup. It's a mess. The children were so sad. Now it sits in the cupboard and I doubt it will get played with much more. I'm disappointed I was not warned before purchasing about the holes in the sides of all the cups.

If you are debating between two sets don't go with this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars fun tea set, November 7, 2006
This review is from: Fisher-Price Musical Tea Set (Toy)
My daughter now 4 - has had this for 3 years and her little sister is now using it. It has withheld even the most rough play. I love it because I have put it in the dishwasher and it has no problems. My kids like to not only play "pretend" but use the cups as well for snacks and juice. this has to be one of the best sets out there and if for any reason something gets broke just contact the company, for a small fee - if any - they will replace it. I would buy it again in a heart beat!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb! A Wonderful Tea Set., July 25, 2003

My daughter was 18 months old when she got this for a gift. It has been a favorite of hers ever since and she's two and a half now.

This is just perfect for little fingers (and mom's fingers too)! The teapot holds enough water to fill four cups and the four cups are big enough to hold more than a drop of 'tea'. Yet they are small enough that a spill does not equal a disaster.

Everything fits onto a sturdy tray and my daughter seems to have no difficulty carrying the tray with everything on it. There is a cute creamer and sugar bowl and spoons that are just perfect for using.

The teapot plays I'm a little teapot when the button on top is pushed and makes cute tinkly sounds when the teapot is tipped to pour. It is a pleasant sound and not so loud that it annoys.

If you are like I am and look for gifts that encourage creative, imaginative play this teapot is perfect. If you look for toys that do more than blink or play music at a push of a button, this toy fits the bill. It is fairly quiet and easy to play with and fun.

Enjoy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ugh! There are holes in the teacups!, May 29, 2008
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars

So I went out and bought this tea set for my daughter. We were super excited. Her cousin has this set, and has had it for about 2 years, and my daughter plays with it at her house. Well, we open up the box, and lo and behold, the teacups all have two holes in the side of the cup! You could only put just a little bit of water in them, before it reached the hole. Her cousin's teacups do not have holes. Why oh why did Fisher Price ruin a great thing?!? Also, besides the holes, if you leave the pot on it's side, the super annoying teapot lid continuously plays the "magic" pouring sound until the pot is righted. I'm talking about every 5 seconds the thing goes off. It is not a high quality music like most toys have now, but a high pitched poor quality sound. Also the teapot lid fits very tightly in the pot, which is good so that it doesn't fall out when you pour, but for a younger child, like 3 or younger, they may have a hard time with it. Overall, this is such an adorable tea set, and we were really looking forward to using it, but we returned it since we cannot even have a real tea party. We will continue our search for the perfect tea set.

1.0 out of 5 stars So close...BUT..., January 5, 2009

I don't know how I missed all the reviews that warned of the holes in the cups. This looks so cute and I was so excited and now I am looking at the OTHER tea set my granddaughter got for Christmas - a Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Say Please set with no holes in the cups and a delightful bubbling sound while pouring - much cuter that the sounds this set makes which is that musical whine.

Best feature of the Musical set - the tray and spoons. There are 4 cups (don't forget the cups have HOLES!!??).

Best feature of the Say Please set - much cuter teapot (with a "tea bag" in the "tea" inside the pot), and you can choose from 3 settings that change up what happens when you open the lid OR pour. It makes boiling sounds, pouring sounds, says please and thank you and other things. The 2 cups are cute, sturdy and actually hold "tea". Additionally, there is a little plate of really cute cakes to serve as well. One of the settings is for the cakes, which are shapes - a circle, a triangle and a square!

The Say Please set beats the tar out of the Musical Tea Set, just buy it somewhere else because the price difference is huge. My tea set gift was a loser except for the tray and spoons which my 2 year old granddaughter uses with her COOL tea set. Darn it...

4.0 out of 5 stars This set has survived 3 years of a pre-school class!, November 17, 2006

This review is from: Fisher-Price Musical Tea Set (Toy)
My sister bought this tea set 3 years ago for my now 5 year old. My daughter LOVES it.

We had been looking for a non-breakable tea set for several months. We looked at fabric and plastic sets, but did not find one that wouldn't carry germs or break easily if it fell to the floor. In telling this dillema to my sister, she said not to worry, she had the perfect set. Boy was she right!

My daughter not only pretends to serve tea, but also any other drink you can think of. For a while, she used it to serve the make-believe food that we had ordered from our "waitress". It has withstood many "tea parties" with her friends. We gave a set to her pre-school class, and it has survived 3 years of 15+ kids playing with it daily 7 days a week!

We love it so much that we started to give it as a present to other little girls. Mom's at the parties always ask where we got it and how much it costs.

My only problem is that sometimes the battery has to "die" for a while. The sound of the teapot can get on my nerves after a long day of tea-partying. This may not bother you, but my daughter can play with this toy all day if the fancy strikes.

With that said, every little girl should have a tea set like this.
