5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun, but doesn't stand up to older, curious kids.
Our 24-mo son really enjoys Hokey Pokey Elmo. Within minutes, he was trying to do the Hokey Pokey (have the camera or videocam handy) and the dog was doing some strange dance around the two of them. Unfortunately, Hokey Pokey Elmo doesn't stand up well to curious toddlers and 7-yr olds. If you have kids in the family who like to bend things to see how they work, then...

1.0 out of 5 stars Hokey Pokey Elmo Hokey!
Elmo does NOT sing the whole song. In fact all he does is put his left arm in and his right leg. When he "shakes it all about" it's all noise...... no shaking. He is not soft and cuddly either. I am very disappointed. Then again, my grandson loves ANYTHING loud!

If you have kids in the family who like to bend things to see how they work, then either 1. don't buy this toy, or 2. be prepared to buy another Elmo after the first one breaks. I was surprised at just how fragile Elmo's internal pieces are. The exterior material held up well and Elmo still sings, but after having his leg bent once and arm bent once, his Hokey Pokey days are over. We're choosing option two (buy another).

5.0 out of 5 stars Daughter's favorite toy, November 9, 2003

My daughter received Hockey Pockey Elmo as a gift when she was 8 months old. She learned to dance with this toy, she loves it.
She even learned to turn around and imitate the moves, and she's only 11 months now.
This Elmo takes a lot of abuse from my daughter and I am amazed it works as well as the first day.
I absolutely recommend this toy, is a LOT OF FUN!

Hello,
I bought this Elmo for my 10 month baby girl Maddie, and I think in her opinion, it's the best Christmas present under the tree! Even, I love it!

I have to say though that he does do the whole Hokey Pokey song. Elmo puts one arm in, and out and "shakes it all about", and then he spins around, and then he does the same with the leg. I think that is all that is needed. If he did the song with both legs, and both arms, it would be a little too much. Besides, it doesn't matter to the ones that its important to - our kids.

When Elmo was unwrapped on Christmas morning, Maddie just loves him from the start. Everyone in the family loves how he danced, and turned around - even on the carpet! The best part was when he falls, he says "Can you help Elmo up please? Thank you.". The entire family couldn't get enough of this. He was passed around the big kids (Maddie's uncles) who kept knocking him over just to hear him say that phrase. Two weeks later, he is still in perfect condition.

We keep Elmo on Maddie's dresser, and she can clearly see him from her crib. I think that this toy has helped her learn how to point. When I go to her in her crib, she just looks, at him, and points, and so of course, we go see him. She claps her hands, and smiles.

I have to agree with Maddie, this was the best Christmas present that I could have gotten for her!

My son absolutely loves this toy. It is so cute, and polite! When he tips over, he asks to help him up PLEASE, and then says THANK YOU when you do!

4.0 out of 5 stars You can do it too!, October 27, 2005

The Hokey Pokey is such a fun and silly game that young and old can play along while ELMO teaches all the right moves & sings the song. You and your youngster will laugh aloud as you put your hand and foot in and SHAKE IT ALL ABOUT. If Elmo accidentally tips over, he says OOPS and when you pick him up he will THANK YOU!. Teaches coordination, left from right, and following simple directions. Lots of fun! Of all the themed Elmos out there, like Chicken Dance, Potty, etc., I think this one does the most to instruct your child while having fun too.

5.0 out of 5 stars He does sing the whole song!, October 23, 2003

I was thinking of buying this toy, but after reading some reviews on here that he DOESN'T sing the whole song - I changed my mind.

I saw this toy in the store today and asked the store employee who was stocking them - why he doesn't sing the whole song when it states on his tag that it does.

He said the toy DOES sing the whole song - you have to FLIP THE SWITCH under his one foot. If you don't he will only play a few verses.

This made me happy, I am going back to purchase this toy for my daughter. I hope this review is a help to many who are upset about why he is not singing properly!

4.0 out of 5 stars ok toy, November 18, 2003

My boys (6 & 2) recieved this for their birthdays from their grandma and grandpa. (Their birthdays are 2 weeks apart.) Both my boys like Hokey Pokey Elmo but my youngest likes him the best. It's really cute to watch them both dance with Elmo. :) It took my youngest a while to get the hang of pressing the right hand. Now he's able to do it everytime. A lot of people say Elmo doesn't sing the whole hokey pokey song which is true but you can't really expect a toy like this to put his head in or for that matter his whole body which is part of the whole song. He does say hand, arm, leg and foot. Of course it is the same arm and leg he uses. His foot doesn't really go in and out much and I have to agree with some people that it is pretty loud when he shakes and turns around. It is cute when he falls over and asks for help up though. Overall I found this toy to be ok, it's not terrible but it's not great. Each day we've had it my youngest seems to play with it less and less. I definitely think that kids who love Elmo will really like it. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Elmo sings an Old Favorite, November 30, 2004

My dd (2 yrs) was so excited to receive this dancing Elmo - we couldn't get it out of the box fast enough... I would say that she goes thru spurts - she dances with it a lot for several days in a row and then won't touch it for weeks. When she does dance to it, we usually make it a family affair :)

PROS
- Recognizable Elmo character
- Large enough in size to see motions clearly, but not too big as to take up a lot of room (like other toys)
- sounds are very clear
- sounds are at the right "volume" level
- Elmo alerts you when he falls over, by saying please and thank-you
- he seems to spin even on the oddest of surfaces

CONS
- not posable, even if daughter tries to push his arms down or bend his legs !
- elmo states "i'm pooped", rather than I'm tired. Although this is not a swear word, I was a bit surprised that it would be used on an Elmo toy
- only 2 "verses" to the song - would have loved to see more !

This is a great toy that helps reinforce dancing and enjoying yourself. We recently used it at out dd's 2 yr old birthday party and all the kids were dancing away... they wanted more, more, more ! A great toy, I'm glad to see the price has gone down now that's it's not the "toy of the season".

First thing. He does play the entire song when you take him home. In the store he only plays a sample. When you take it home, you take the tab off of his foot, flip on the on/off switch and press his hand and he plays the song. It's so cute. He does the whole thing with the shake and turns himself around. He has fallen down a couple of times, but even that is cute. When he falls down, he says whoops, elmo fall down. Can you help elmo up please? So cute. My son loves it. He's only three months old and when ever Elmo is on, he just smiles and laughs. I would definitely recommend this toy. It's only around [price], is a lot of fun and can teach your kids the hokey, pokey song.
