Argh! Bathtime fun fer yer wee maties!,
By
This review is from: Fisher-Price Backyardigans Pirate Tub Time Adventure (Toy)
My kids (2 & 5) are big fans of the Backyardigans, especially the Pirate adventure episode. (Confession time: Mom & Dad are rather fond of that episode too. "Argh!")
They really enjoy the Pirate Tub Time Adventure playset. It's quite a tub-worthy vessel. The only problems are (1) the mast does not snap firmly into the base, so it's always falling off and (2) only Captain Uniqua and Captain Pablo are included. The wee maties missed Captains Tyrone and Austin.

Is it right for my toddler?,
This review is from: Fisher-Price Backyardigans Pirate Tub Time Adventure (Toy)
While it looks like fun and does float, we found that the pole that the sail is on doesn't fasten correctly and so as soon as the child grabs it, the sail & pole pop off of the boat and doesn't fasten back on well. The characters that come with the ship have room inside for storage but must be placed in an exact & specific way usually too complex for a toddler, While there is an area to snap the treasure chest into that will secure it, there is no way to keep one of the characters behind the wheel. If you are looking for all of the peices to be apart & floating in the tub, it works.
This product didn't meet our expectation though and we are returning it.

Daughter loves this toy,

My 2 year 4 month old daughter loves the Pirate Tub Time Adventure. She couldn't wait for me to take it out of the box. No more than a few seconds later she was asking for tub time. The boat floats well and the top lifts off to provide a convenient storage spot for Pablo and Uniqua. Pablo and Uniqua do plop out of the boat when bobbing along in the tub, but my daughter loves "saving" them from the torrent-laden waters. She has been playing make believe with this set for hours on end. She doesn't want to leave home without the two backyardigans either. It has made entertaining her a snap. This toy also can be thought of educational in the sense that it helps her develop imagination and tactile skills. She's learning how to put the removable sail back in--- basically she's learning a dexterity task with that.
The only sad thing is she wants to know where Austin, Tasha, and Tyronne are. None available yet :(

My son got this for Christmas and used it for the first time today. There is a molded piece of plastic inside the boat where the figures are stored. It is balloon like (hollow but enclosed) with indentations for the figures. It attaches to the bottom of the boat by two screws. But there are also two holes all the way through to the bottom of the boat (which I didn't see until it sunk) so when you put it in the water it fills up with water and capsizes. Now there's about 1/4 cup of water inside this balloon like thing that I can't get out. I don't know if I received a defective one or what as other reviewers have said it floats. If you take your chance on this toy, be sure to look for and seal the holes with silicone or something. Also, the sail does not stay attached and the treasure chest looks like it should scoop and sprinkle water but it's pretty much useless. I am very disappointed!

Cute, with issues,

Grandma gave this set to my boys and while it is really cute, it has some frustrating issues that seem like they should have been easily noticed and solved in manufacturing. As mentioned by others, the sail is pretty much worthless as part of the toy. Niether the mast nor the sail stay put in their intended positions and end up just floating around the tub. We've had no problem with my 4 year old figuring out how to put the two figures away, but he was disappointed there were only two. But they are cute and a good size for both he and his one year old brother to play with. I like that everything drains on it's own and easily. We typically throw bath toys out after a couple of months just because the idea of sitting water and mold grosses me out, even after bleaching from time to time. But this one has passed through two throw out sessions and is still in the tub because it really doesn't seem to allow any water to sit in it. The figures are sturdy and have survived a number of times being thrown across the room onto a tile floor with no cracks or other major issues. All in all, I think this is a good bath toy, but be aware that it's not going to work exactly as pictured.

Cute toy, but typical tub toy performance,

If someone out there knows of a bath toy for a toddler that actually lives up to the marketing, I'd LOVE to hear about it. This is not a bad toy, the boat actually floats, and the ability to snap the deck off to store the figures inside is nice...but as for the figures actually staying upright on the deck in the water? Maybe if the deck was notched, or had pegs to stand the figures on, possibly then. The sail does detach very easily...that dosent bother me too much, quite frankly my daughter likes playing with the sail about the best. A little pricey at almost $15, I think $7, $8 would have been more reasonable.

This was a great idea, very poorly implemented. First of all, the sail will not stay on and is a constant source of frustration for my daughter. Next, only Pablo and Uniqua are included. Third, Uniqua and Pablo do not stand on the boat, but constantly fall over. Plus, the paint started chipping of the figures about a week after we got them. Finally, where's the plank and why have a treasure chest with no treasure inside??

Yes, the sail comes off -- and Pablo's paint too. But my son, who's 3, isn't much bothered by any of that. He just likes playing with the ship, the treasure chest, and with Pablo -- in or out of the bathtub. So if he's happy I can't give it a bad review.
Now if they would just make Captain Austin and Captain Redboots from the Pirate Camp episode...

This is great! We used the figures on my sons birthday cake and wrapped the boat for his present. He absolutely loves it. My only advice is to glue the mast. It likes to fall out and 2 year olds don't seem to appreciate that.
