4.0 out of 5 stars Kid pleaser!
I agree, it is loud and you hear the same songs over and over but isn't that every kids' toy? My only complaint is that it should have more songs. Otherwise, it seems to be very enjoyable to toddlers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too loud and mike cord too short!
Those are my two biggest complaints, no volume control, and the mike cord is way too short, so if my almost 3yr old daughter want to move around at all, the main component flops all over...Yeah, the songs are repetive and annoying, but who of us with a toddler in the house hasn't endured the same Blues clues or Dora DVD over and over and over just for a little peace, lol...

4.0 out of 5 stars Loud but still great., February 8, 2010

First, the obligatory 'how to fix this loud toy' thing- just put some Scotch tape over the speaker. Bam, problem solved. Otherwise, this is a fantastic music toy for any child that loves the Backyardigans or just loves grooving to music. What's really great about this toy is that the songs are all from the show- not some generic songs or something that sounds like it belongs in another show. You're getting 5 different styles of music here, each one having two different tracks, and each one tells you what style of music you're listening to. I marked the educational value rating up a little just for this, because most music toys don't say what style it is, or make an effort to set them apart. Each track plays for a good amount of time- not too long to the point where it'll drive you crazy.

There's also a microphone that barely works. It has to be pretty much right against your mouth to pick up anything, and more than likely it'll sound fuzzy when it comes out of the speaker. It's kind of an add-on feature to this toy since it's mostly a toy stereo and has 5 different songs, but I guess it's something extra your kids can play with.

The Music Maker also get some crazy battery life, even on the ones that come with it. We didn't have to change the batteries for over 8 months, and my daughter played with this sucker on a regular basis. And if you have kids that love to throw or drop everything, the Music Maker can handle damage without a problem. Ours got smashed by heavy toys and kept playing just fine.

Of all the music toys I've seen over the last 2 years, this one still seems to be the best for your buck (provided you get it at around what it originally cost). There are a ton of toys like this that play the music until you physically turn it off, and it's just one track looped over and over. Luckily, this isn't one of those. If you're looking for a good music toy with a good shelf life, look no further than this little beauty.

5.0 out of 5 stars loud but that can be fixed, August 29, 2008

I just bought this item for an upcoming trip where we will be driving from NM to WI then to PA and then back to NM, with a 22-month old. This is one of the many new toys and toy-like items I am gathering for my "bag of tricks" to keep him happy during the long trip. I can't wait to see his face when he first starts playing with it. I am sure he is going to love it, and we've never even seen the Backyardingans! I do agree that the unit is very loud, but face it folks, that can be remedied with a simple piece of duck-tape over the speaker! Most problems come with an easy fix if you just take the time to think about it.

After reading the other reviews, I would say that perhaps this is a toy geared for the younger side of the suggested age. I didn't notice that this was particularly loud because I LOVE Backyardigans music, possibly more than my kids. I spend a little time each day singing the songs with and to my 17 month old because he loves the show so much, and we play the music loud at home.
My 4 kids range from 17 months up to 10 yrs, and I have caught my older kids with this toy. I am constantly reminding them it is the baby's toy, and we have a real karaoke system for the older kids. I think part of the charm of this toy is that it has songs that are from the show and not new songs kids wouldn't know. I think between grandparents who bought the toy and us at home, we have played with this as much as our 17 month old!
I think for a toddler who loves Backyardigans, or who you want to love them, this is a perfect toy for them.

This toy is awesome! I am a foster parent, and, as a result, this toy has fallen into many little hands. I have two little ones that constantly fight over this. They are one and two. My house is bursting at the seams with toys, but this is currently my two-year-old's favorite toy. He calls it Tasha...how cute is that?

Anyway, today, we had a catastrophe...it stopped playing. I am pretty sure that it took one drop too many. I am here to purchase two more so the kids will quit fighting.

Let me address a few issues: 1) the volume...if you have little ones, I don't know how you can complain. The volume is NOT excessively loud at all. 2)the microphone cord is too short in my opinion, but at least I don't worry about them wrapping it around their necks. 3) The songs are cute; the toy, like the show, introduces the kids to music genres they may not normally learn about.

If your kids are fans of the show, get this toy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Your child will love it but you might not., July 30, 2007

Our 18-month-old daughter LOVED this toy. My only complaint is the lack of volume control. It's VERY loud and you can't adjust the volume in any way. When it comes to your child, though, they'll love the toy. I'd say it will make a great toy for any child with a patient (ad somewhat hard-of-hearing) adult. =)

Like someone else said, the cord could be a bit longer for the child to use it better, but I'm sure that it's short for safety issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little toy!, January 15, 2007

My grandson loves this toy. He is 16 mo. and doesn't try to use the singing part (except to chew on!) but loves to play the little short songs that each button plays. I like this toy because he can push the buttons on his own easily. He loves it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Too loud and mike cord too short!, January 7, 2007

I wish the cord for the mike were just a bit longer, my daughter wants to move around a bit while singing along, and she really cant...so after playing with this on and off for a week, she's pretty much abandoned it and its in the consignment sale pile to be sold soon.

1.0 out of 5 stars ANNOYING!!, December 23, 2006
This review is from: Fisher-Price Backyardigans Sing-Along Music Maker (Toy)
This is my first review of any item I have ever purchased. I thought for this price I better warn others. My 17 month old son loves the Backyardigans and so do I but this toy is a waste of money. Loud like the other reviewer commented, and heavy so all my son does is drag it along the hardwood floors. Take an aspirin or hide it!!

We have owned this toy for a couple of years, but why would anyone buy it for 149.99. It is cute, but we paid $18.00 for it at a local retailer. Please do not waste your money on this toy.
