My 3 year old son got this for Christmas and it only reads 2 cards. I took it back to the store and exchanged it for a new one thinking we received a defective one, but had the same trouble with the new one. If it worked properly it would be a great toy. My advice is do not waste your money, there are plenty of similar toys to choose from.

I purchased this learning laptop for my 2 year old daughter as a Christmas gift. I spent over an hour Christmas Morning getting it out of the box and trying to get it to work properly. Most of the time it does not recognize the cards at all. At other times it recognizes the wrong card (one that is not in the computer) which is confusing. The toy comes with the instruction to close and reopen the comupter to reset it, but the toy still will not function correctly. It would be a great toy and very educational if it actually worked. They need to take this toy back to the lab and redesign the card reader!

My 3 year old son just got this toy for Christmas from his Aunt. I remembered reading the reviews before and was hesitant to buy it myself. His Aunt surprised him with it instead. I kept the packaging in case of any problems, but haven't had any yet. He loves having his own computer. He always wanted to get on his Daddy's laptop, we shouldn't have that problem anymore. The laptop reads every card correctly. He is a little rough inserting the cards and taking them out, but still no problems. I may buy one for his cousin as well. They both are big Barney fans!

I bought this toy for my daughter 6 months ago for her second birthday, and she uses it weekly. I usually sit with her to watch her answer the questions, and the cards have read correctly every single time. I didn't read any reviews before I bought it, but I'm glad I didn't or we wouldn't have this wonderful learning toy. I highly recommend it!

We have had no problems with the the laptop. It's a great toy if you are lucky enough to get one that functions properly. One of 5 double-sided cards (providing 10 scenes) is placed in the window. When a number or colored shape is pressed, it tells you what you pushed and points out something in the scene that has the same color, shape or quantity. When Barney's face is pressed, it asks a question (how many swings, what color is the pumpkin, etc.) and your little one pushes a number or color or shape to answer.
My 19-month old loves it. She's a little young to answer the questions so we play together. And she loves to put the cards in the window and pull them out. I definitely recommend this toy. If you get a bad one, just exchange it until you get a good one.

My daughter received this toy for her 2nd B-day and when you change a card it still asks questions about the original card that came inside it. Or if it reconizes that the card was changed it will ask a question & when you answer it it will not finish saying the answer. For example, It will say push the # 4. You push 4 and it will say, "there are four" it doesn't finish saying there are four balls or what ever there may be 4 of. This looked so cute in the box. But I'm disappointed that now I have to return it because it doesn't work right.

I know of something worse than making the pictures in colors that kind of resemble other colors (previous review about a orange-yellow taxi being called yellow). That would be making almost half of the numbers say a different number when pressed. It's true, my Barney Learning Fun Laptop does not have much you can accurately learn from, although it may be fun. My 2 year old daughter loves it, but we cannot allow her to play with it at all for fear that she may have all the learning she has accomplished undone by a poorly translated Chinese toy. Numbers 1-4 report the number correctly, but then the fun begins. When the number 5 is pressed, Barney pipes up with "That's the number 1". Number 6 is really the number 2 in Cheap Toy Land, number 7 is called 3 and 8 is called 4. Oddly enough, the number line jumps back to normal at 9 and 10, as they are actually called 9 and 10 in this Barney Twilight Zone. There's only small defects after that. For example in the previously mentioned picture with the orange-yellow Taxi, Barney can't seem to find anything green when you push the green star, even though the picture is predominantly green with all the grass, trees and both dinosaurs' stomachs. He just says "That's the green star" and then falls silent. With the other shapes he references the picture, i.e. when you push the orange circle Barney says "That's the orange circle, the bike is orange" (even though the bike looks more like red to me). So to prevent our daughter from becoming dumb from this ingenious toy ;) , she is now not allowed to use it, which makes more disappointment for all of us involved. While it seems that this faux pas is not the norm, it does reflect upon the quality standards to let something like that slip by, since pushing the buttons in question or any kind of diagnostic quality test should have made this problem obvious, and, in turn, made our time a little less stressful (listening to our daughter cry because she can't play with her Barney "Learning Fun" Laptop). So if you ask if I would recommend this product, if you can't tell by the review and star rating, then maybe you would benefit from this toy. But no, really, I would give it a "don't buy" recommendation.

I bought this toy for my son's 1st birthday, although he was too young at the time to answer the counting questions he still loved playing with it. He is 21 months old now & still plays with it almost daily & it has definitely helped him in learning his numbers, colors, and shapes. It is very durable and he can take the cards in and out easily. The cards have all worked fine since day one, no problems with this product at all. Great learning toy & lots of fun for young children.

I feel bad for the people who got defective ones! My 2 yr old girl and 3.5 yr old boy love this toy! They have thrown it around quite a bit, and it always works correctly. The older one knows how to switch the scenery and answer the questions, while my younger one just likes to hit the buttons and point to things. It has lots of buttons and variety, but not hard for kids to figure out. I would hate for anyone to pass up this really cool toy! Just keep your receipt for a bit until you assess you have a "good" one. :)
