Part of Fisher-Price's Be-Bop Building series, this Buildin' Snail promises all sorts of smiles for curious, industrious babies. Ten chewable, stackable, soft-plastic blocks in different shapes and colors all fit inside this 10-inch-long snail's circular shell. A flip-open shape sorter on top lets babies drop the blocks down into the shell, figuring out which ones are stars, which are triangles, and which are puffy clouds. Just pop the 4-inch-wide storage shell off, and the blocks--along with the snail's goofy-looking head--can be stacked up on pegs on the rocking snail base. All that, and the friendly snail sings, too: when babies rock the base, a large button on the bottom triggers a bouncy, playful tune. --Paul Hughes

This toy was in anstant hit with my 8-month old. The blocks inside are unusual shapes and can be spun like a top, which fascinates her. (FYI - they're interchangable with some other Fisher-Price toys.) The best part, as far as I'm concerned, is the happy tune the snail plays. The song is up-beat enough for her to dance to (and she does - no matter where she is or what she's doing - she stops and bops to the tune), yet simple and jazzy enough to keep parents from wanting to throw it out the window on the umpteenth playing. So many 'musical' toys try to amuse the child by overwhelming them with techno beats or whooping screeches. This little guy delights my daughter with his simple tasteful tune, and his little song is a welcome addition to our home.

I bought this toy for my son when he was 6 months old. At first he just knew how to push the button and make the music play. Now he is 10 months old and loves putting the shaped blocks in and out of the container. He also is learning how things "work" and loves to open and shut the lid. This is one of his favorites and it holds his attention for quite a long time. GREAT TOY!

My 16 month old son receieved this toy for Christmas and he has played with it very little. I think he is too old for it. I found the music annoying so I took the batteries out since there is no way to turn it off. I don't believe the toy will be that durable since the plastic is not very thick and will be easily cracked by being stepped on. My son also has the Fisher Price Baby's First Blocks which he plays with a lot more and I think is a lot more versatile and durable toy. My son loves to carry the cylinder around and put various things in it and step on it. If you are looking for a sorting toy I would get the Fisher Price Baby's First Blocks.
