5.0 out of 5 stars PIXTER IN COLOR IS AMAZING!! BEST ON THE GO TOY!!
Just bought this for my 3 year old daughter because she is going into the hopital for open heart surgery and thought this would be a great bedside game to play with when she is feeling better. She loves it so far!! The color is great!! Much better than the previous versions of pixter!! If you are buying a pixter for the first time this is the one to get!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
My 8-year-old daughter received this as a Christmas gift last year. She was very excited about it and was eager to play the games. However, the screen is very hard to see, the light has to be just right, almost dark. The toy eats batteries and we have a hard time keeping them in stock. Since there is no A/C adapter or car-plug-in adapter available it makes this toy...

This review is for parents who are wondering if they should get this toy for a nearly 3 year old .. the answer is YES ! My daughter is having the best time of her life with it. At first I had to show her how to use it, but after a couple of hours she got it right. Ok, she does not master the "saving" option but that's no big deal. I bought 2 games Dino and Barbie and the Dino game was more accessible than the Barbie one for her age, but day after day she understands more of it. when she is stuck I just help her out and we play together. She loves the "stamps" option. This toy went on the floor a few times, and believe me, it is still standing and working perfectly. Buy it for home / car and plane trips !

My 4 year old is one of those kids who can't play with anything for more than 5 minutes, except the Pixter. It is the best toy I've ever bought for her, and we've tried everything (thanks to used toys and bargains...). I bought her the Pixter recently because I was pregnant and too tired to keep her busy. It is well designed, challenging but not frustrating, is adaptable to her growth and needs, etc.

I bought this product for our very hard to entertain children. Usually we might find interest in one child but not the other. Our daughter is extremely art and music oriented our son is more rough and tumble. Both of them have never lost interest in this toy since they first got it 2 years ago. We are upgrading this christmas '04 to the color version which they chose over leapster, Game Cube or other electronic toys. This is the only toy which we know to hold their interest and their friends all love to play with it, including their 14 year old uncle. The units both systems, and games are versatile our Pixters have been left out in the rain (with a game in), left by the sandbox, (also with a game in), and dropped more times than I can count, but they've held up without a problem. Also, really good on batteries I probably only change them three times a year. Hands down to a toy that is actually a favorite of the parents I know, and their children.

4.0 out of 5 stars How to Fix Pixter Color, February 17, 2005

This is for the reviewer whose Pixter stopped working. The first screen (home) came up fine, but pressing the stylus to the screen accomplished nothing. I had the exact same problem with my daughter's Pixter. I found the following instructions for calibrating the stylus on the Fisher-Price web site which solved the problem in about 5 seconds:
Turn Pixter power on. Wait until you see the Home screen.
Find the small hole in the back of your Pixter unit, above the battery compartment door. That's the calibration hole.
Insert, push and hold the stylus in the calibration hole. Turn Pixter over so that you can see the screen. When you see two plus signs remove the stylus from the calibration hole.
First touch the plus sign in the upper left corner with the tip of the stylus. Then, touch the plus sign in the lower right corner with the tip of the stylus.
I hope this helps! Good luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best gifts I've ever bought my daughter!!, November 26, 2004

We bought this for our then 4-year-old daughter last Christmas and she STILL plays with this several times a week. It really holds her attention and is a very cool toy. I've played with it many times and usually don't get to finish playing because she'll come take it away from me... It's really a lot of fun! It's also a great travel toy because it not only has a volume control but can also be used w/ a standard headset and has no loose parts. Great for car or air travel!

We have a few cartridges (the Barbie one being her favorite) but I think her favorite mode of play is probably without any cartridges. She loves the "paint by number" and the "connect the dots". (My only dislike of the "connect the dots" is that it isn't "connect by numbers", which would be much more educational.)

I have recommended this game to many friends and relatives. It's one of the best interactive educational toys I've seen and is so much easier to cart around than some of her larger "board" type electronic games. Plus, she tends to play with this one much more. I think the fact that it's small and easy for her to carry around is a major reason for that.

My 8-year-old daughter received this as a Christmas gift last year. She was very excited about it and was eager to play the games. However, the screen is very hard to see, the light has to be just right, almost dark. The toy eats batteries and we have a hard time keeping them in stock. Since there is no A/C adapter or car-plug-in adapter available it makes this toy hard to use on long trips. We drove from NY to LA and she only played with it a short while at night (b/c she couldn't see the screen during the day) before it lost power. We also have the camera attachment, which is very hard to get the object centered in the frame before it actually captures it. Because there is no flash the pictures are horribly distorted. The only good features are its size, the durability and the fact that headphones can be plugged into it. We couldn't be more disappointed with the amount of money we spent on a toy that pretty much sits in the bottom of the toy bin. My advice is to look into a portable Game Boy type of system instead. I wish someone had written a review like this last year and I'd been able to make a more informed purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy Pixter...Go for a Leapster, April 25, 2005

My 3-year-old loves her Leapster and plays with it in the car on long trips as well as in the house when I have to do things that leave her on her own. That's why, when I saw what looked like really fun and educational games for the Pixter, I put it on her wish list for her birthday. It'll be twice as much fun when there are more games from which to choose, I thought. But it's turned out to be a major disappointment. The screen is grainy, the interface is not intuitive, and one really has to press hard to get the screen to recognize the stylus. It's not easy even for an adult! The drawings skip and you can't drag items once they're placed: You never know where they're going to be centered before you place them. The games are not as educational as those on the Leapster, either. We bought Global Passport, Creative Genius, Barbie Fashion Show, Pet Shop, and Symphony Painter (that one is the worst!). She's using the Pet Shop a little, but that's it. Don't waste your money. Go for the Leapster...It's elegant and fun with a clear picture and sound. Now I wish I'd taken to heart the previous reviewer who bought the Leapster instead because I'm stuck with all this expensive useless nonsense. I had also bought the math, Barbie writing and Clifford cartridges, but I'm going to return those because they were bought in a brick and mortar store and haven't yet been opened.

1.0 out of 5 stars Get a Leapster instead, March 3, 2005

I was very disapointed in the Pixter. We returned ours and got a Leapster. The graphics and controls are so much better on the Leapster and the games are much more fun and educational. Also the Leapster is much more intuitive, a child can pick up a Leapster and figure everything out - there is even a "hint" button if the child gets stuck. A child that gets stuck with the Pixter can only look at the grainy screen and wonder where they went wrong. This toy is not worth the money.
