Not worth it!!!,

I run an in-home daycare, and I have just about every Fisher Price, Leap Frog and Hasbro toy available, and this toy is absolutely not worth the money! It would be worth about $25, but not $50! The monkey doesn't do anything but have arms that teeter slightly, and only his left hand drops the balls down a ramp which activates a short music sequence. That's about it. A couple of other things will activate the sound, but it's not very much fun. The hippo and elephant do absolutely nothing. For the money, you should buy the Amazing Animals Spinning Zoo - that is definitely worth the money and the kiddos play with it everyday. Or, for about 1/2 the money, buy the Sit-to-Stand Giraffe. I don't like to give a negative review of anything Fisher Price since I usually am very pleased with their toys, but the kids really don't have any interest in this at all. It's really disappointing.

We've had this toy for a little over two weeks now, and my 9 month old son LOVES it!! He thinks it's the funniest thing in the world to knock the balls out of the monkey's hands and watch them go down the slide. He can stand there and just hit the monkey's hands over and over to make the music play over and over. I like that he can cruise all around it and play from any side or angle. My only downside to it is that the songs seem to end abruptly... and they are really short. Overall, it's a wonderful toy and I recommend it to anyone whose child likes to play!

Walk like an elephant, stomp, stomp, stomp. Chew like a hippo, chomp, chomp, chomp. Play like a monkey in a tree. Do like the animals that you see...
This song will haunt your dreams. The toy itself is reasonably easy to put together, if you're familiar with assembling toys. Fisher Price is one of the few companies out there that provide instructions that aren't written by and for masochists. Keep in mind that it is quite large, and once you've put it together, that's it. It isn't designed to be taken apart and reassembled multiple times. When the music and lights are turned on, this is probably one of our daughter's favorite toys. She's had it for about three months now, and it's really interesting to see how her motor skills and interests have developed between 6 months and 9 months. There are enough things to play with on this that it's kept her interest going, especially now that she's using it to pull herself up to stand. Keeping a close eye on your baby is a must with this toy, especially once he or she starts standing. The palm leaves above the elephant and hippo aren't sharp, but they are pointy. In the picture, the green dome below the monkey is where the balls come out after they've gone down the ramp -- if they're the balls that came with this toy. If you have any other toy balls around, your baby will almost certainly find them, drop them down the ramp, and get them stuck in the dome. My only real contention with this toy is the price. On one hand, yes, it's built very well. But on the other, 95% of this toy is just injection-molded plastic from China. You're paying a huge premium for the Fisher Price name and about four dollars worth of electronics.

I bought this for my daughter when she was 9 months old to encourage her to pull up to stand on it instead of our furniture. She is now 11 months and pulls up to stand on the toy - it is very stable! But it didn't stop her from pulling up on anything and everything else in the house. Even though the toy has fun music that she loves and things she likes to tug and bat at, she shows mild interest in it. She only plays with it if I engage her and then she has fun for about 5-10 minutes. Maybe as she gets older she will like it more. We now have about 10 Fisher-Price Laugh N' Learn toys and this one ranks lowest on her interest scale. The one she likes the most is the Fisher-Price Laugh N' Learn Counting Friends Telephone [...]

I bought this for my 7 month old son who was just learning to pull himself up. Because of this toy he is now a master at it. It's also helping him to start cruising. He loves to take the balls out of the hippos mouth, and to chew on the sum mirror. Overall it's a great toy, it's keeps his attention very well and has helped him master some very important skills. My only disapointment is the price.

I bought this toy for my brother's one year old twins. They both loved it. It is big enough for both of them to play with at the same time. My brother has called me twice to thank me for such a great gift.

I bought this toy to help my 10 month old learn how to stand and cruise. I wish the music had its own volume knob instead of 2 levels, loud and louder. The volume switch is not obvious, not to me. Songs are sung by male voice, which is not very attractive to me, but kids don't care anyway, as long as they're upbeat. Obviously my 3 year old child likes it more than her brother, but she helps him play as well. I think the spiral ramp is the most interesting part, to me and the baby. He can grab and drop the balls one after another to see them chase each other out. The hippo is stored all the balls, if they've not lost yet. The less interesting one is the elephant, as it only has balls in thru ears and out by trunk. If the baby doesn't know how to catch the ball yet, it's no fun. As the warning on the amazon site states, WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD -- Small parts. Not for children under 3 yrs while Manufacturer recommended age: 6 months and up. That's kind of absurd, because 3 year old kids won't need to cruise or crawl. The box marks for 6-36M. I see no small parts that could harm kids, unless you didn't assemble it right with all the (nuts and) screws. It is made in Mexico, though.

Son Love It...But Must Be Supervised Closely,

My son received this toy as a Christmas gift last year. We brought it out of the box when he was 6 1/2 months old. He is 11 months now and still loves the toy. He likes to watch the balls go down the spiral ramp and has started dancing to the different tunes. This toy has been irrestible to all kids who have visited our house.
My suggestion is to watch your little one closely when playing with this toy. My son was being supervised and still received quite a scrape on his cheek due to falling against the leaves from the tree above the elephant. The leaves are kind of sharp, a design flaw in my opinion. My nephew did the same thing on this toy as well. Kids learning to walk will fall so hopefully Fisher Price will figure out a way to make the leaves not as sharp on this product.

Great toy but once my baby learned to pull up she tired of this toy and prefers furniture and people's legs. It is very sturdy. My 8 month old is very strong and the toy is able to sustain her weight and strength....I'm a first time mother so I admit that I've fallen for gimicks....In hindsight I would not have purchased it and just allowed her to naturally pull up on things around the house (with a careful, watchful eye of course)!!!

The Crawl and Cruise Musical Jungle is loved by my 6 month old. Here's what I didn't know before I bought it.
ASSEMBLY -Putting it together takes about 10 minutes. -There are 4 or 5 screws, so you'll need a phillips-head screwdriver. A second person there is almost a necessity. -Some parts snap together and require a lot of strength. My wife couldn't do some. SAFETY -The green leaves above the elephant and hippo are hard and pointy (but not sharp.) My 6-month-old can sit, but falls over occasionally. These leaves are just where he can hit it head/face. They hurt...I tested them myself. Bruises are a possibility, but if your kiddo isn't falling much this won't be a problem. -All of the edges are hard but not sharp. I found one scrape-hazard where two parts didn't assemble perfectly...60 seconds and sandpaper are a quick fix. -The thing is next to impossible to tip over, even with a kid hanging on it. FUNCTION -The crocodile swings and activates music, as do the monkey-hand and hanging-ball. -There are 6 songs, 3 of which have words. 10-15 seconds each. -The mirror is distorted, but I don't think kids will care. -The frog is on a spring. -The balls are hard plastic. After the green slide, they come out of the center randomly left or right. SUMMARY -Because of some poorly placed hard edges, this toy gets 4 stars. If your kid can sit without you hovering over for safety, then don't hesitate to buy. |
