4.0 out of 5 stars Strong but too short
I bought this toy for the sole purpose of my son learning to stand. I must say first off that this toy has a wide strong base (legs) and is heavy enough that my son was *immediately* able to pull himself up, pull on it, push on it, and half stand, all without the toy budging.

I am very happy with the strength of this toy, but, as mentioned in other reviews,...

We bought this for our little boy who loves music. He hates this toy. He gets more stimulation from a link a doo ring.

We have only had it a week and they have already broke it. My little one grabs on to the monkey and stops it from dancing. Now he spins one way gets stuck and makes an awful loud sound.

In the store when it was in the box, my boys loved hitting the drum. Now they only care about who can stop the monkey from dancing.

I agree with everyone when they say it is too small. It has two height adjustments. One so they can sit on the floor and the other so they can stand. They are taller than the unit.

Battery eater. The thing should have been made by energizer. It never stops it just keeps going and going till it eats up all your batteries.

If my husband had not thrown out the box, this toy would have been heading back to the store.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strong but too short, October 18, 2004

I bought this toy for the sole purpose of my son learning to stand. I must say first off that this toy has a wide strong base (legs) and is heavy enough that my son was *immediately* able to pull himself up, pull on it, push on it, and half stand, all without the toy budging.

I am very happy with the strength of this toy, but, as mentioned in other reviews, this toy is REALLY SHORT! It works "OK" for my son as he's very short for his age (10 mos < 5%) but I can see that he will grow out of this toy within probably 2 months.

Regrettably, I'm bring the toy back. Again, as others have said, the first thing he went for is the monkey, and almost broke it. Also, because the music can be triggered by just about anything, including standing on the mat, it almost never shuts off. I can turn the volume down, of course, but the point is supposed to be that the BABY does or touches something to make the music go. I don't see how he'll associate him doing an action to turn the music on if it never really stops.

So I think this toy would be great in the right circumstances, but unfortunately not for my son.

We bought this toy for our daughter when she turned 8 months old. She just LOVES it. As soon as she hears the music, she starts dancing and rushes over to play with it. (She is 10 months old now) My son just turned 3 years old, and he loves it too. It is such a treat to see them side by side playing together. With both of them it has taken quite a beating as one of the most played with toys, but it still looks new. I would highly recommend this toy to anyone!

My son loves the Baby Dance Baby bandstand. He always seem to go after the monkey dance. He loves the music. Hey, I likes the music. It is diffrent and has a carribean style.

He loves it.

I thought the toy looked adorable and it sounded pretty good while in the box in "demo" mode. However i had the same problem as several other folks who mentioned this toy was too short. On the box it looks like the keyboard is as high as the toddlers waist, on my 13 month-old it only reached his knees. As a toddler he only wants to stand or walk and I thought this would be perfect for him to stand/dance with, but no way...it's just too short, even in the highest setting. The music sounded very computer generated and the interactive toys just didn't produce enough interesting instrument sounds.

I bought this for my seven month old. She's just learning to crawl. This toy is great because she can crawl to it and pullself up to sitting.... I wish I would have bought it a little earlier. There is an off switch it's found underneath the toy. Great product!

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, August 23, 2004

I purchased this toy for my 11 month old last week. I was a bit disappointed, it is smaller than it appeared in the pictures on the box. The height is adjustable, but even at the highest setting it still is smaller than I expected. The dancing monkey is not attached well enough, everytime I turn on the toy my son pulls the monkey off. It is only a matter of time until that breaks. Fisher-Price should know that babies six months and up are going to pull on things and adjust designs accordingly. However, I did love the carribean style music and so did my son. The music was a refreshing change from other musical toys in his age group.

I don't see what everyone else is saying about this wonderful toy. I looked at these reviews and was very afraid to buy it, I AM SO GLAD I DIDN"T LISTEN!!!! My Mom actually bought it for my son and HE ADORES IT! He's danced to all the different beats which I am glad to say isn't classical music. It seems like thats all you can find is classical music. He watches the monkey dance and he shakes his head to him. Yes I agree the height could stand to be a little higher, but as for him only going for the monkey it doesn't happen. He's tried several times but with a little guidance he knows not to try to rip him off the toy. I am very pleased with it and so is my son. Seems to me that people are expecting toys and tv to be babysitters where their child will sit in front of it for hours! All together it's a smart toy and adorable for a music lover!

My son received this as a gift a couple of months ago when he was 6 months old. He loves the lights and especially loves the monkey on top. He quickly learned to pull himself up to a standing position, which is great. But, this toy is so short! The person that gave this to him thought that it would be good for him to learn to stand..which I suppose he has..but in another month he's going to be taller than the toy and have to bend over or sit down to play with it. That's my only complaint..just wish it could be adjusted more to be taller.

I am surprised to see so many negative reviews for this item! We bought this for our daughter when she was 7 months and she has loved it since! She is now 1 and still is enamoured by the lights sounds and, of course, the monkey.

As for the "educational" value of the toy - I say WHO cares!! Our society is so caught up on the "educational value" of a toy that we can sometimes forget that toys are supposed to be FUN also!! Let babies/toddlers enjoy their FUN toys for once!

As for the safety issue - I never though of it and it definitely sounds potentially dangerous although I have to make one point: Call me crazy but I never leave my young child in a room by herself!!

Hope this helps!!
