I ordered for my 2 year old grandson who LOVES Jake the Pirate!
Kelly Snellings
So it's a great toy and your child will love it - but it's probably going to be used more as an electronic game than as a pretend play spyglass.
Karen Post
The map is thin paper and she did rip it a little the very first day.

This toy was exactly what I was looking for. My boys love the television show on Disney and they have been running around the house with the cardboard toilet paper holders looking through them. It is larger than I thought it would be which is great because it is easy for small hands to operate without breaking. It does collapse slightly into a shortened version making it very realistic to little boys looking to play pirate ship. The headband has velcro in the back so it is pretty easy for both of my boys to put it on without any assistance. One helpful hint that I would like to make is the pirate map is plain paper so it tears very easily. I took it and placed clear packing tape all over it so it looks like its been laminated and it is now virtually indestructable. This may be a consideration if your child has younger siblings or will be devastated at every little tear as mine was. Overall great toy.

For a while on Christmas morning I was surprised that this was the toy that held my preschooler's attention for quite a while at the expense of Legos and trucks that were much costlier. The pretend play was great while it lasted, but the toy's limited 2 or 3 phrases make it repetitive and the kid put it down quite soon and has not picked it up since. The overall usefulness is also limited by the fact that you can't really see through the scope - there is a penny-sized opening that is mostly obscured by the imprinted image of the Capt Hook. The toy has a lot of potential, but sadly the manufacturer chose the cheap and unimaginative way of making it. Using a larger viewfinder opening, using a magnifying glass to simulate the effect of a scope, a richer phrase bank are very cheap things that would make the toy more interesting to kids. Alas, it doesn't have those.

WOW, I can't believe I am seeing 5 star rave reviews of this product. First off, the map is PAPER. That's right, it's a small, thin piece of paper that is about as fun as a coupon to play with. Secondly, the spyglass doesn't even magnify or do much of anything. I mean, really, how hard would it have been to make this overpriced thing actually MAGNIFY the image?? I had toy binoculars as a kid that WORKED... Instead, you look in and see a picture of captain hook, wtf? Thought it was funny at first, but then I thought of the toys that I grew up with, and looked at the price of this item, and something doesn't add up. You're basically getting a cheap $2 collidascope and a piece of a ripped up magazine. The headband is the only half decent thing. You are overpaying for a brand here. Robbery.

My soon to be 4 year old is a Jake and the never land pirate lover. Anything that comes out from disney having to do with this tv show comes to our house. The talking spyglass is durable and fun to play with. The bandana is a really nice touch, but the map has already gotten lost. You can hear Jake's voice lound and clear on the spyglass and the really adorable part is that anytime you look in the spyglass you can see captain hook hanging around in it.

Not fun at all, my son looked, he saw a little captain hook and said ... only this?
Spyglass plays music, the idea is cute, but it was poorly made. It has a small lens which not even increases it's just plastic. The small sticker of Captain Hook is ridiculous! IS NOT doing anything. I'm disappointed, waste of money. I should have bought a real binoculars would be more fun.

My son loves Jake, so I bought this for him for his 3rd birthday. Though it was initially overshadowed by a cool leap frog train my sister got him, he has played with it quite a bit since then. He likes wearing the headband, but I have no idea what happened to the map. I laminated it for him so it wouldn't be ripped, but I haven't seen it since. He still plays with the spyglass, and he likes that it lights up and he can see hook inside. He's always bringing it over to me to show me. The only thing I don't like about this toy is how LOUD it is. There isn't a volume switch, and I'm usually not too picky about this type of thing, but this toy is LOUD, so if you have sensitive ears, or a baby you don't want your older child to wake up, maybe skip this one, or store it in a safe place ;)
