5.0 out of 5 stars Very durable, fun toy
This toy is as basic to kids as buying diapers, you need one! It really keeps our little one occupied and helps out a lot when you need some "quite time" and no videos, etc. It's very educational, they can write their alphabet but also draw all kinds of shapes and objects, just like an etch-a-sketch. It reminds me of one - just with a pencil. It's great for car trips...

2.0 out of 5 stars Magna Doodle is better
I was surprised to find Doodle Pros everywhere and no Magna Doodles in stores, so I thought, why not, I'll get a Doodle Pro. I promptly returned it. Obviously they do not use high quality magnets in the Doodle Pro as they do in the Magna Doodle because the lines are not nearly as dark or as satisfying to make. The stamps are equally disappointing and leave only faint...

Great toy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Travel Toy, April 26, 2005

This has been the best travel toy. I took it to China when I adopted my almsot two year old little girl. It kept her amused and entertained on the LONG LONG plane ride home, the pen was never lost or dropped and the stampers were a big hit. Now that we are home, it is packed in our car bag and has kept her attention during car rides, doctor visits and church. Great fun and very durable. I highly recommend it!

The stamps are equally disappointing and leave only faint marks. The eraser bar is also very hard to drag across and does not fully erase unless you drag it back and forth. I love my Magna Doodle it is obviously a much higher quality of toy, dark rich lines, easy erasure. My only complaint is that the stamps fall out, but we always manage to find them. I would also mention that the age range seems too high to me. My two year old loves this and I love it because it is a good way to practice scribbling without mess.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Eraser, March 9, 2005

My 3 year-old son received the Doodle Pro as a Christmas gift. Overall he has a fun time with it--writing letters, making shape pictures, etc. Where Fisher Price really messed up is in developing a good eraser on the toy. My son's screen is always a dark gray, because his "masterpieces" never completely erase. The reviewer who said it would erase after 6-7 times has a much better toy than ours--you can still see his markings clearly after that many times! I had bought my son a similar toy at Wal-Mart before he received the Doodle Pro, and I have to say, the $4.96 Wal-Mart toy works way better than the Doodle Pro. I am very disappointed in this toy, as my children have tons of Fisher Price toys, all of which have stood the test of time. I would recommend the Magna Doodle or the Wal-Mart version of it--this toy isn't worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Good For Lefties!, July 24, 2004

My 3 year old son saw this toy in the store and seemed very interested in it. So, for his 3rd birthday, my husband and I bought it for him. Other than the fact that we thought it would be nice for our son to be able to draw pictures with and help his creativity, we thought it would also be a good educational toy for him to practice writing with. My son does enjoy this toy. He likes taking it in the car. It's especially great for long car trips. And the handle is a nice added touch. But there are two big problems with this toy. My son is left handed. The string that attaches the magnetic pencil to the toy's base is at the top right side. So, the string gets draped across the entire screen when he writes and draws. He's constantly having to move the string out of the way. I'm not quite sure why they need a string at all, other than to help with the pencil not getting lost or misplaced. But they've built in a place to lock the pencil into the toy's base, so the string seems useless to me. Even so, why couldn't they have put the string in the middle of the toy's base, or better yet, at the bottom middle of this toy so that the string doesn't have to go across the entire screen? The other big problem with this toy is that the magnets are very small. I have a 13 month old daughter who puts everything in her mouth right now, and the first day that we had this toy out for my son to play with, I found one of the magnets completely in my daughter's mouth. She loves to play with this toy too. So, I've had to hide the magnets and only take them out when I can directly supervise my son playing with them. And then when he's done playing with them, I have to immediately put the magnets away again. This could have been easily solved with making the magnets bigger. Overall, I would say that my son really loves this toy, but I would advise parents of left handed children to be prepared to cut off the string like I've had to recently do, and to hide the magnets if you have younger children.

I think whoever invented the MagnaDoodle, should win a medal or something. I remember back in the early 90's, my niece went through two MagnaDoodles because she was constantly writing on it. Now, my 3 year old daughter has her own and she plays with it several times a day. She practices writing her letters...making silly faces...whatever she wants. And what's even better: NO BATTERIES.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and durable, July 24, 2005
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Fisher-Price: Doodle Pro - Blue (Toy)
We purchased this as an upgrade from a smaller version of the Basic Doodle Pro for our two-and-a-half-year-old son. This version comes with a larger writing area and the magnets.

My son loves playing with this toy. Most of the time he uses the pen and has no trouble using the eraser. And from time-to-time he likes to use the magnets. Our Doodle Pro has taken its fair share of spills and trampling, with my son dropping it from the couch and walking on top of it. It has held up well and all components continue to work quite nicely.

I would strongly recommend this product if your young son or daughter likes to draw. It will be easy for him/her to use and it will withstand quite a bit of bumping and falling.

We statred off with one of these 4 years ago and it still works fine. The pen got pulled out but I tied it to the center hold bar. It makes it easier for my lefty son anyway :). We now have another that is used only in my autistic sons therapy time and it is holiding up well. The pieces do seem to get lost but we find most of them again under beds, car seats etc.
Overall great toy and had no problem with any of the functions other reviewers have complained about.

I bought this for my 3 year old daughter because she loves to write her letters. Fisher Price has tried to make their own version of the Magna Doodle. They didn't do it correctly. The drawer is constantly sliding open, when you erase the entire screen moves and it doesn't erase very well. You have to go over it approx 5 to 6 times. Stay Away don't buy this one.
