5.0 out of 5 stars A Big Hit on Christmas Morning!

3.0 out of 5 stars Had to return three times!
My daughter loves this toy, but I had to take it back three times to Walmart. First time, it wasn't scanning the items correctly, and the other two times it wouldnt work anymore after I took the tag out of the back by the batteries. I made sure I took the toy out of the box and checked it at the store before I brought it home this time. I'd give it more stars if it wasn't...

4.0 out of 5 stars Big hit with our 4 year Daughter!, January 12, 2007
This review is from: Fisher-Price Dora's Talking Cash Register (Toy)
From our daughter's perspective this is a huge hit!! She loves talking on the microphone, scanning the tags and paying with the Dora Dollars. She loves that she can put the extra tags on some of her own stuff and then "buy" them.
From a mom's perspective there needs to be a volume control, the scanner needs to work a bit better. Like other reviewers have said it doesn't always scan right. The only way to get it to work good is to lay the tag flat and line up the arrows exactly. Easy for an adult not so easy for a little kid. Also all of the extra pieces are great and add to the fun but there is no place to store them. And yes the crown IS strangely way too small!!
All in all this is a great toy that is a lot of fun to play with and a great way to spark imaginary play.

My daughter is six years old and I was actually concerned that this toy might be a little young for her. But she had asked for a cash register and I loved that this one came with items to purchase that had price tags on them that could be scanned. Well, she loves it too! She and her friend from next door played with this for hours Christmas day. They both loved talking into the microphone ("clean up on aisle four" was the mantra for the day!). The games and activities are quite educational. They took turns being the "buyer" and the "seller" and I heard them discussing price and change in both English and Spanish along with Dora. The toy is sturdy and well made and so far works perfectly. I do wish they had included a bag or container for all the cute little accessories, but we took care of it ourselves. Overall a great toy!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not at all what I expected, February 6, 2007

I bought this for Christmas for my 3 year old. She's used it once since then. I took it out today to give it another chance. This product falls short in a lot of ways. If I had known exactly how the register worked before I purchased it, I would have bought something else. If it wasn't too late to return it, I would. There are three ways to play with it: Adventure Play lets you follow along on a page in the book provided. Basically you scan the 3 items on the page, "Dora" tells you the total and that's it. There is no place for the total to be displayed and the register doesn't have a function that let's you input the amount that you are giving to the cashier. Scanner Play allows you to scan items with tags on it. The scanner is very sensitive and more than half the time the wrong items are scanning. Free Play allows you to talk on a microphone that is too short even for my 3 year old. You need to hold down the microphone button while your talking on it and that doesn't work consistently either. There is also a credit card you can swipe and a place where someone can sign their name. You press the Cash button to open the Cash drawer. I'm listening to my 3 and 5 year old girls playing with it now. It's ok, if they are just pressing random buttons and using the extra features, but if they actually want to scan things and get totals, forget it. I am kicking myself for being sucked into the Dora craze and not buying an old fashioned, working register. I just assumed that the register would have a + button and a number display. My $5 calculater has a display for goodness sake! There also aren't enough coins provided to make change with. Save your money, it's not worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dora the Exlplorer Cash Register, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Fisher-Price Dora's Talking Cash Register (Toy)
We bought this Cash Register for our 5 year old Granddaughter for Christmas. She was in love with it right out of the box. It has lots of
pieces of "money" etc with the microphone connected to the register. She and her 5 year old cousin played for a long time together and had lots of fun. When it comes to the microphone it is loud! They loved it but it could drive an adult crazy after a while! It seems sturdy and durable.
I was pleased with the purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars Annoyingly loud, but my child enjoys it., January 9, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fisher-Price Dora's Talking Cash Register (Toy)
My four year old son wanted this for Christmas, it looks like it is for girls only, but I got it anyway. I think it has been somewhat helpful in teaching him about how purchases work and some math. It comes with a lot of pieces, with nowhere to store them when not in use, so we keep them in a ziploc which is not ideal. The crown is strangely small, I do not know who it is suppose to fit. Also, the area where you are suppose to sign for a Swiper card purchase is useless, you cannot see your name at all. But the scanner is fun.
My son has been playing with it anyway on occasion, I just wish there was a volume control!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, December 26, 2006
This review is from: Fisher-Price Dora's Talking Cash Register (Toy)
This was one of my dora-mad 3 year old daughter for Christmas. The scanner is REALLY difficult to work, it took me a while to get it right, and she just got bored trying. It should have a screen where the prices show as you scan them , but it doesn't. The pad to sign for credit card purchases is really lame. All in all a big let down.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality - Dissappointing for my child. Would not recommend!, November 4, 2007
= Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Fisher-Price Dora's Talking Cash Register (Toy)
I could've purchased 2 of the cheaper cash registers and been more satisfied. The "UPC" codes in the book that the register is supposed to read do not work properly. My child must line up the arrows on top to get it to even say anything, and most of the time it says something different than what the code is supposed to be for. Another inconvienent thing about this is that there is no storage for all the upc code tags, so they get lost easily. I would not recommend this product to anyone. Save your money and buy a cheaper, less complicated one that kids can just play with without the aggrivation. All kids really want to do is scan things, hear the 'beep' noises, and play with the money.

This toy does not work well. It doesn't scan the correct item half the time, and it's just not worth the $40 dollars I paid for it. My girls have enjoyed it, but probably only because it talks and sounds like Dora. I usually like to read reviews before I purchase something like this, but I took my 3 year old out on her birthday and this is what we came home with. Please do not support this item and maybe they will revisit and fix it. It has good concepts, but just isn't made well. Read the other reviews about what is wrong with this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great fun with some frustrations, January 2, 2007
This review is from: Fisher-Price Dora's Talking Cash Register (Toy)
My 2 1/2 year old LOVES this toy. As an adult trying to play with it "correctly", it's a little frustrating because of the same things other reviewers said. But, she has no clue about these things and totally loves to pretend play with it. She is, however, very frustrated with the cash register drawer. It's very sensitive and difficult to close. All in all, I'm happy she got it as a gift and she has spent hours playing with it. It's also very neat that she is hearing and learning spanish words with it.
