3.0 out of 5 stars Love it, if only it would fit our crib!
I got this toy for my baby shower and think it's great. The music is soothing, the motor isn't too loud (unlike the new ocean wonders acquarium which I also received.) I also like the idea of the picture projecting onto the ceiling. The only problem - the straps to attach it to the crib are not long enough to fit around the rails of our Ragazzi crib! The new acquarium...

5.0 out of 5 stars Far better than the Ocean Wonders aquarium, January 4, 2005
This review is from: Fisher-Price Soother Flutterby Dreams (Baby Product)
I saw this MONTHS ago at Target and my daughter fell in love. We have several items from the Ocean Wonders line including the one for the crib and the bouncer. She has loved her fish but these birds are her new favorite.
The movement of the birds is realistic, it reminds me of the animatronics of the Disneyland charachters on their rides. There is a tree with three birds that "fly" while they chirp and sing. The singing isnt annoying as you might think with a bird toy. And there is so much more movement and interest in this than with the Ocean Wonders Aquarium.
What I really love about this is its added feature of a display on the ceiling. Those of us who remember the older version of the Ocean Wonders Aquarium that was known as "Peaceful Planet" it had a light display for the ceiling. Well now there is an option again!
This is a great crib toy (that can also be set on a counter when babe is older) that will entertain your baby without being too stimulating.
There is also a mobile available but I really prefer this product. I hope they make more items for this line.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very cute, but not much better than the Aquarium, February 28, 2005

I bought this because my daughter enjoyed her Aquarium crib toy for so long, that I thought she would like birds for a change, and it had such good reviews.

It's very cute, but I think the aquarium one is much more soothing with the bubbles and the fish. Maybe it's me, but I think aquarium sounds are more relaxing than chirping birds.

I had to mount this on the wall side of the crib because if I mounted it on the other side, a ceiling fixture got in the way. If the crib is too close to the wall, you can't see the whole light show. Part of it is lost on the wall, so I was a little disappointed in that.

The on/off button is kind of small compared to the aquarium, and it's off to one side as opposed to in the middle. It was very easy for my daughter to just put her hand out and turn her aquarium on by herself in the middle of the night when she needed to be soothed back to sleep, but this button is hard to find by a baby.

I guess I'll keep it because it is cute, but I'm definitely leaving the aquarium in her crib too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great item!, September 9, 2005
This review is from: Fisher-Price Soother Flutterby Dreams (Baby Product)
I received both this and the aquarium center from fisher-price at my shower and this is by far a superior toy (at least in my daughter's eyes!). While I have never used it to put her to sleep (it's far too stimulating for that), she is now 7 months old and has really enjoyed this toy for the past 3 months, with no signs of stopping. The slide show it projects onto the ceiling is really neat (lots of bright colors) and when she's not on her back "talking" to that, she is sitting up facing the birds and intently watching thier little heads bob back and forth and circle around. Umm, that is the birds themselves that circle around and not just their heads. Anyway, I guess it's her version of TV. I like that you can adjust the volume of the music and frankly, I find this toy to be very soothing (although I'm sure sleep deprivation plays a large part in that). Definitely worth the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Have for Baby!, September 9, 2005

I bought this after looking for a mobile that doesn't need wound up. It never fails, that my 2 month old was almost asleep when her mobile would shut off, and she would wake up when I wound it up. In the month I've had this, she has not cried once when going to bed, and is fast asleep before it shuts(plays for 8 minutes). If, in rare cases, I need to play it again, all it takes it pushing one button - which doesn't startle her and defeat my previous efforts. I am buying this for all the baby showers I go to from this point on!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but has a few frustrating "glitches", March 1, 2005
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Fisher-Price Soother Flutterby Dreams (Baby Product)
I thought this was very cute, and after reading rave reviews, bought it for my 5 month old daughter (who has just recently started crying a lot when I put her in her crib).
The good news: My daughter seems to love it! I turned it on for her tonight and she quit crying and fell asleep in less than 5 minutes and did not wake up after it shut off. (This is our first time using it, so hopefully this will be an ongoing trend!) My three year old daughter also loves it! She was awed by the ceiling display and laid down on the floor next to the crib to watch. The melodies are nice (I like the "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" arrangement the best) and both the toy and ceiling light display are very cute and calming.
The "glitches": I don't know if I'm the only one who has this problem, but the "gears mechanism" in mine seems to be quite noisy as the birds flutter around. I prefer the music on the lowest setting for putting my baby to sleep, yet the grinding of the machine is loud enough that the music can barely be heard over it when on the lowest setting. I find that disappointing. Also, to me, the light display on the ceiling goes "backwards." It seems to me that it should circle from left to right (clockwise), but it goes counter-clockwise. I noticed this immediately and it bugged me. (Baby won't care, though.) Finally, most frustrating to me was that the straps aren't long enough and the buttons on the back to hook the straps on aren't low enough for me to hook it on the long side of my crib. My crib is one of those that is higher in the back than the front, with the back long side intended to eventually be used as a headboard for a bed. The only place I could attach this to the crib was on the short end, and since the end pieces curve, I could only attach it to the front corner of the end piece (hope that makes sense). Anyway, it will make it harder for my baby to enjoy it, as she will have to be laying the short direction on her mattress to look at it without craning her neck, and also to be able to see the ceiling display right side up, rather than sideways. It was definitely designed to be attached on the long side of a standard crib. It'd be nice if they could change the way it attaches--make it longer and adjustable to accommodate those of us who have bought these "newer-style" cribs.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great investment (and interactive as she grows!), June 14, 2005

We purchased this product at Wal-Mart when our daughter was four-months-old, and we highly recommend it. We were tired of hand-cranking her mobile every five minutes and deliberated between the Flutterbye Dreams and Ocean Wonders, but chose this because of the ceiling projection.

From the get-go, she began tracking the birdies on the ceiling and the music lulled her right to sleep. Shortly thereafter, we were in bed one morning and heard the music start through the baby monitor. Lo and behold, she had taught herself to use her foot to turn the item on and off! A few months later, she was on her belly, reaching up to operate it with her hand.

She is now nine months old and loves it as much as the first day we bought it. What a wonderful item!

5.0 out of 5 stars A light & music show to lull your little one off to sleep!, January 19, 2005

Normally I wouldn't think this would be something that a 2 year old would love, but both my daughter and I are huge fans!! The coolest part is the ceiling display of the sun, moon and the birds which is a totally different scenes than what your child actually looks at when laying or sitting in their crib. The blue birds are so sweet looking. In the center is a Mama & baby bird in the nest. There are green leaves on the outside and a tree branch. Mama birds head moves to look at her two other baby bluebirds that are fly around their nest. The all of the music is beautiful and combined with the bird chirps is just so soothing! We put up this right next to the Fisher Price Aquarium and so far each night my daughter is facinated by the birds and the nighttime lightshow. She's actually gone to sleep much easier & much faster since we added this to her room!

5.0 out of 5 stars WE LOVE IT!!!, September 9, 2005
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Fisher-Price Soother Flutterby Dreams (Baby Product)
My daughter just turned one. She has always done very well with going to sleep at night and, until now, we had the Oceans Wonders soother in her crib. We needed a new one to put in her crib at child care so I decided to go get the Flutterbye Dreams Soother and switch them up. I had bought this for a friend right before she had her baby and I ALMOST kept it for myself! :) Well, since the day my daughter started crawling she has been ALL OVER the crib. She kinda made me nervous because she used to sleep very soundly on her back (where I like to have her). Now... when we put her down, she just lies on her back and stares at the ceiling picture show until she falls asleep. If it stops before she's sleeping, she simply starts it again and lies back down.

I love it, she loves it and my husband loves it. It is WELL worth the money and I would recommend it to anyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazes and Relaxes - the baby too!, February 19, 2005
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Fisher-Price Soother Flutterby Dreams (Baby Product)

We had the aquarium and thought *that* was wonderful, but after 18 mos of constant use, it seemed to work irratically. So, instead of replacing it for another, I saw this one and chose it instead. It's been superior to the aqaurium. The first night my son saw the moon and the stars and the baby&mama bird floating above his crib he was hooked, never heard a peep from him... since then he asks for it when we put his jammies on and even in the night or during naps or whenever he is restless I can hear him press it and change the tunes to this liking. There is a nice selection of "white noise" type music as well as traditional lullabye music. It has it all for choices. The birds fluttering around are sweet and it is not loud or mechanical sounding as the aquarium sometimes would. You can also select different volumes, just music or music&fluttering or all 3 with ceiling projection. I also love the fact that since he'll be making the switch to a bed soon it can be placed on a nightside table unlike the aquarium which had to be strapped to a crib.

The only thing that is a downer is it EATS batteries. It has been played on average 3x a day with all functions for about 3 weeks and is already running low and must be replaced again :(

You can make it last longer by conserving the power draining ceiling projection function and fluttering and just use the music if you're desperate and haven't baught new batteries yet. It will prolong the music a bit that way.

All in all, I wish it had come out a little sooner, but we're still getting 100% enjoyment even now and plenty to come.

Great product !!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter loves ours, January 12, 2005
This review is from: Fisher-Price Soother Flutterby Dreams (Baby Product)
I bought this for my new daughter and she seems to love it. I love the fact that the music isn't annoying. And I love the ceiling display. I own the ocean wonders aquarium which is still in my older daughters room she still loves that so much she didn't want to pass it on to the new baby. Although I know I wouldn't buy the Ocean Wonders Aquarium again, I would buy this one again.
