5.0 out of 5 stars Great educational and motative toy.
Grandson loves the repair shop. Plays with all the time. Uses the tools. Recommend this for motivation and educational awareness. It holds his attention and for a 2 year old that's a feat in its self.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice toy, not worth $100
My daughter just bought this for herself with some gift cards and Christmas money. She is just about 5 years old.I actually encouraged her to get it as it was marked down to $45 at Target and there are so few building type toys marketed for girls that since she likes the show I figured that was close enough.

I cannot say that I feel this is a $100 toy. $50...

$50 is an acceptable amount of money to put out for it, but in my opinion it is really not worth much more than that.

The front of the box shows that you can "build and fix more than 20 projects", and shows that you insert the "blueprint" onto the worktable, then follow the instructions. On the back of the box it is mentioned that there are only 3 blueprints that actually insert into the table, the other projects are on a "blueprint poster" which is basically a piece of paper. Apparently during assembly my daughter stepped on this piece of paper because it already had a hole in it by the time we were ready to build. That is something that is not going to last. They could have at least made it a laminated poster.

Also, there really could have been more tools than just a screwdriver and hammer. I also think there could have been more building pieces, as you can pretty much only make one thing at a time.

The blueprint cards themselves could also have been bigger as this toy is for ages 3 and up, and it really would not have hurt to make them a little bigger so the drawings could be a little clearer.

As someone else mentioned, they could have done a little better with part storage. There is nowhere to store the screws, plates, tools and blueprint cards, not to mention the flimsy poster. There is a "shelf" under the work table, and had there been some type of enclosed storage on that shelf I would have definitely rated this 4 stars rather than three. And yes, storage does warrant knocking this down at least a star, because without the pieces, this becomes just another useless noise-making, space-taking, I-can't-throw-it-out-because-it-cost-me-a-hundred-bucks, dead dinosaur of a toy.

My daughter did enjoy playing with this and was able to put together a couple things with my help. I don't know how much long term use she is going to get out of it, as I will be chasing pieces around and there aren't any extras that we can afford to lose them.

Fate of this toy: Unknown
Would I buy again: May return back to comment in a few months (and remember, we got it for $45!)

I purchased this for my almost 5 daughter for Christmas. She loves it, and so does my almost 2 yr old son. I love how it comes with illustrated instruction sheets, and when you plug them in, Manny tells you what to do. Very cute idea! My daughter still needs a little help to get the projects put together, but they are fairly easy to do. The two reasons I give it 4 stars instead of 5 are this:
1. There are soooo many little pieces to these projects, and no practical storage to keep it all in. I'd like to see plastic bins underneath to hold the screws, nails, and "wood" pieces in. For right now, we keep it all in a Ziploc freezer storage bag.
2. This product comes with Pat (the hammer) and Turner (I think- the screw driver). My daughter was a little upset that it didn't come with all of the tools... I think for the price all the tools could be included.
All in all, it's a great toy, and both of my kids love it.

The manufacture supplied images used here clearly show 7 tools (image #4) however the product contains only 2 (hammer and screwdriver)

It images are clearly misleading and there is no text in the product description to describe what is and isn't in the packaging.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great toy - need to be able to purchase extra parts., December 9, 2010

My 4 year old son has had this workbench for a year .. it was a Christmas gift last Christmas. He still plays with it almost every day and loves it. My 2 year old daughter participates in the play as well. Given how much they play with it and the fact that it has mostly lasted a year, I think it is worth paying full price if you have to. With that being said, I only gave 4 stars because the screws and nails are small and eaisly lost or misplaced. If you could purchase extra building parts or the set came with more building parts I feel it would be worth 5 stars. At this point we are missing so many parts he can only really build one or two items.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Disappointed, August 13, 2010

I looked into purchasing this item when my son was 2 1/2 as a Christmas present, but decided he wasn't ready for it and the $[...] price tag turned me off. About two months later, I found it on clearance at Target for $[...] and bought it to put away for his birthday. I got it out tonight and assembled it and I'm not overly impressed. Sure, it is fine for $[...], but if I had paid $[...], I would be packing it up and returning it. The following are my issues:

1. Overall, it is flimsy. One good fall into this and I dare say something will be forever broken.
2. It comes with very few building pieces.
3. The storage for the building pieces is a joke. There are slots where the "boards" are supposed to go, but they don't fit and apparently you're just supposed to throw all the screws and brackets onto the table because there is nowhere to put them. The first thing I had to do was go find a bin to put everything in.
4. There are supposed to be directions to make 20 projects, but only three are on the cards that work with the workbench. The others are printed on a piece of paper that will be torn and lost in no time.
5. I looked and looked for the rest of the tools before realizing that all it comes with are a hammer and screwdriver. Really? For a $[...] MSRP they couldn't throw in a few more plastic tools? Instead, I'm supposed to buy those separately.

So, overall, if you can find it for $[...], it is a decent buy but don't expect something worthy of the $[...] price tag.

We bought this toy for Christmas for our 18 month old son. It does a lot more than our daughter's Barbie vet center for the same price but neither has given us our money's worth.

This workshop does come with a lot of "projects" to build but most are too fragile to actually play with such as the racer whose wheels unscrew off with mild play.

The blueprint instructions that get Manny to "talk you through" the project are pretty generic. He tells you to "gather the pieces you'll need", "let's get started","check the blueprint and continue", etc. The only thing that changes is the first sentence where he tells you what you'll be building, after that, all the statements are identical and don't actually provide any instruction.

The pieces it comes with don't interlock in too many different ways like Lego blocks would. For the price, we definitely expected it to do a lot more. Our son does enjoy it because Manny talks to him, he get to hammer "nails" into the work table and it came with a smaller Pat and Felipe which fit better in his hands. Our daughter likes the pieces and uses the drill press and table saw to "drill" and "cut" through the pieces.

So overall, he loves it, which is what matters, but we were disappointed. It IS sturdy, his 3 year old sister sat on it once and it held her fine.

Would recommend it if it's on sale somewhere but not for the [...] we paid.

Santa brought this workbench for my 3 year old son and he LOVES it. He built a birdhouse with his dad tonight using the birdhouse card and Handy Manny's oral instructions. Handy Manny walked him through each step. When my son completed each step, he pressed the check mark button and Hanny Manny would go on to the next step. It turned out great. My son felt so empowered as he hammered in the nails. The real sounding saw is really neat. I would say this toy is pricey at $90. I would rather have paid no more than $60. I am very happy we purchased it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the little "worker", December 29, 2011

My three year old loves building just about anything. This toy is great for the child that actually wants to build, as well as the child that likes to pretend he is building. The plans are easy to follow and allow the child to follow along, not only with visual instructions but with verbal instructions as well. After each step, just push the check mark and Manny proceeds to tell them how to perform the next step. The workbench is surprisingly sturdy, and my son has so much fun pretending to be a carpenter. My seven year old even loves doing the many different projects, and my 16 month old even thinks she's a little builder. This was a definite hit.

My kids love the toy, but I agree with other reviews, for the price of it, it needs more. It should come with all the tools and it DOES need some type of storage for all the little pieces. We too kept ours in a ziplock bag, but little kids can only keep up with that for so long. WE have lost some screws, nails, and other small building pieces. Would be nice if there were replacement parts.
