We started collecting Geotrax 2 years ago. My only complaint was that the trains did not go in reverse. I'm glad to see that 'problem' was solved with this new addition to the geotrax system.
I originally bought the geotrax toys for my 3 year old son who loved trains. He absolutely loved it. What I did not expect was that my 9 year old and 11 year old girls would also like to design tracks and play with it. It does take up a lot of room if you start adding on to the set. We have ours set up in the basement and it gets played with several times a day. My 4 year old is great a designing tracks, he especially likes to use the elevation sets to make double decker tracks. The system is so easy to use I don't have to help mush at all. We also have a few of the Thomas train sets. I have to say the boys do like to play with this set as well but it requires a lot more adult help. The tracks can only go together one way and the boys now 4 1/2 and 3 have problems getting it together. But they do like the fact the the trains are the same as on TV. The Thomas set was used so seldom at home that we donated it to grandmas house where it is a treat to get to play with it. The Geo trax set still ranks #1 with my kids.

I wouldn't say this toy is for educational use but it is loads of fun for a child who loves trains. My son loves all his Geotrax sets and plays with them on a daily basis, including this one. This is one toy I don't mind taking up my entire living room!..............

We bought this set four years ago when my son was 3. Now he (7 yrs) and his 4 yr old sister play with it together. Beware - it's big, but lots of fun. The kids use creativity to design the sets, but most times I'm down on the floor lending support. I also like that year after year the grandparents could buy the smaller track for a reasonable price and the kids were never disappointed. The neighbors, cousins, friends all gravitate to the set when they are here. We break it down every few days/weeks, store it in a huge storage container and it tucks away in the toy closet. Only one of the one-thousand pieces ever broke (it was our fault) and we glued it back together. Love this toy, but watch out. Some of the units were on recall for lead paint.

We bought this train set about 2 weeks ago and my son absolutely loves it. The remote control is easy even for kids who get easily frustrated. Assembly is quick and easy. This set is currently being sold elsewhere at a cheaper price with a free dvd included plus an extra vehicle and passenger. Do your price comparisons :)

OMG! My husband & I got this for our sons 2nd birthday a week ago. I was going to go with a cheaper toy (a "Cars" race track that was 19.99 it was a figure 8 track that needed 2 cars & they crashed) But I bought this instead partly because I really wanted to play with it and because if I didn't I was going to buy it for christmas and I figured we have a lot of gifts to buy during xmas so why not get this one out of the way. Our son & 5 year old daughter love it, in fact he got up early the next moring and was down stairs playing it before anyone else got up. I was really impressed by how it's made, it's much bigger then I thought it would be and I don't feel like it'll get broken and i feel the price fits it well, plus there are many accessories. Our aunt bought the Thomas the train set for her grandkids to play with @ her house but I like this set better you get to control the train with a wireless controller it makes noise, goes forward & back it's just a great set.
My son was not into trains or cars really, he played with them but liked action figure like kung fu panda more so I was a little surprised that he loves it so much. Now the people that come with this set are a little small but you can always put them up till they're older if your child like to put things in their mouth. I can't wait for christmas so we can get more stuff to go with it! 12-15-09 My son is now 3 1/2 still loves this toy one of the few toys that he still really enjoys playing with and nothing has broken but the price has gone up ALOT we bought it for $50 that was reasonable $200 not so much!

My son is about to turn 3, and he got this train from his grandfather for Christmas. He is a total train buff, knows both GeoTrax intro episodes by heart, and loves everything Thomas the Tank Engine.
When he saw how much came in this box, he was overjoyed, since his non-electric GeoTrax trains wouldn't fit on his Thomas tracks (though he sure did try.) The product was **very** easy to set up and is extremely durable. The tracks don't come apart on carpet like Thomas tracks do. It takes 6 AAA batteries but it's been a week of excessive use and they're still working. We did buy rechargeables for the future though. The train comes with an auto shut off which is great since you can't turn it off by pushing the button. It will also shut itself off if he leaves it running along the track and falls asleep watching it go round and round. The whole design of this product is fantastic for small children. The tracks snap together and STAY together, even on carpet. The remote control is simple to use (although the train noises it makes scared him at first.) When he figured out what the remote did, the look of realization and power that came over his face was priceless. He can also opt to push the train around by himself, and loves reinacting the TV episodes as well as making up his own stories. This is also the first toy he's ever let characters ride in. Before GeoTrax he would chuck the rider that came with the train or car and just play with whatever had wheels. I cannot recommend this product enough for anyone who has children or grandchildren who love trains. So many electric trains are made for older kids. GeoTrax is the perfect way to introduce young children to the wondeful world of electric trains without the worry of safety or difficulty and frustration. And for those on a budget, like us, it's nice to know that additonal track sets and push trains are extremely affordable.

I stared at this for an hour in Toys R Us before deciding to buy. I guess I just wanted to be sure he would love it.
Well, I can't believe these aren't flying off shelves everywhere! This was a birthday gift for my son's 3rd birthday (just a few days ago) and it is the ONLY toy he has played with since. After the party was over, he played with this set for EIGHT HOURS. We just could not pull him away from it. Every day since he has played non-stop. Thank God he is starting to devote some attention elsewhere, but I know he will continue to play with this more than anything else. This features a fair amount of track pieces and you can configure them pretty much any way you want to. The pieces lock together and I really appreciate that. Those frustrating wooden sets don't compare to this! So make a note to yourself--wooden is not always better. I am a little disappointed that I bought a $20 accessory set that was not remote controlled. My son doesn't seem interested in the accessory trains that aren't battery powered--but I do like that they came with figures he uses regularly. So, that's it. My only complain is that they actually make pieces that aren't battery powered. It just sort of takes the fun out of it after you have a remote controlled one to have to push others around. But I will just do myself a favor and only buy the ones with remote controls. This is really a great toy and I am so glad that I purchased it!

My boy got this train set for his 3rd birthday. He absolutely loves it, in fact when he opened his geo trax he did not want to open any other gifts he got for his birthday. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the dvd that came with the set is the same dvd that came with another Geo trax set I purchased a while back, it would have been nice to get a different one. Also realize that you'll end up buying more tracks to keep your child entertained, thankfully once you buy the main set the extra tracks are not that expensive.

We spent a long time debating plastic tracks over wooden tracks and I had wanted the wooden push trains thinking they would be better for my childs imagination. We received this as a gift and at first I was disappointed at the thought of it. But our 2 year old loved it from the minute we took it out of the box and never looked back.
What really encouraged me was that although I was worried he'd just sit and use the remote, he really interacted with the toy a lot more. He plays with the people and the elevators. And he takes almost any other toy with wheels and runs it on the track, too. Especially considering I was hesitant when we first saw this, I am extremely pleased with this toy and it is a favorite in our house. |
