Color: Pink|Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
My daughter had been begging me for a pair of roller skates but at four years of age I was very hesitant to put her on wheels. I saw these and thought that I would try them since they had four wheels and three learn-to-skate stages. They are absolutely great in that they adjust from shoe size 6 to 12 and your child can easily strap them on over their tennis shoes with the velcro straps. The length adjusts easily on the bottom by pressing two small plastic knobs together to lenthen or shorten the skates. The most impressive and useful feature is the adjustable sliding knob on the sides of the skates that adjusts from numbers one to three. This allows your child to progress at their own pace. The first stage locks the wheels so your child can skate-walk and gain balance and confidence. My daughter progressed to the second stage after walking around on our pavement for about an hour. The second stage allows your child to roll forward only. This is where I had to step in at times and hold my daughter's hand to make sure she was getting the hang of it but she quickly wanted to go it alone. It took a couple of days before my daughter was ready to try the third stage which allowed her to roll forward and back. She tried this third stage and felt it was too much for her as of yet so we were able to easily adjust back to the second stage for more practice. I feel that you can not go wrong with these skates for little girls due to their adjustability.

These are the perfect skates for a young child just starting to skate. They are simple to adjust, and three different wheel settings help the child gain confidence and succeed.

When my son was 2 1/2. I bought him real nice kid skates and he was afraid for a certain period because those skates were actually too good... :-/ I eye-balled these skates before buying the real nice ones and thought they would just be junk and didn't want to be cheap. FOOLISHNESS!!!

I now have a daughter who is 16 months old. Our whole family goes skating so I knew to buy these, this time! I was sold on the in-line version of Grow With Me 1,2,3 BUT I checked around and checked around and saw the reviews were consistently better for the quad style!?! I even went to a major toy dealer and had them check and they reported the same thing!?! The in-line Barbie version looked so much better and sturdier but folks were reporting problems getting foot in and out... So against my better judgment, I went with these.

So far, my daughter loves them! They are far sturdier than they appeared! My daughter's 16 month old feet are almost too small, ALMOST... I'm very happy I made this decision. She feels like part of the family because we all have quads. I don't let her on the rink floor yet, but soon... She walks with all wheels locked. Only the front two lock and semi-lock. Forward never locks 100% on all the skates on the rack, but it is definitely good enough. I have FULL confidence in that! I had to throw that in since at least one reviewer complained about that. They are pretty easy to adjust, but is easiest with the foot out of the skate. This is just a trainer skate. Once she can stand and all wheels are fully released, I'm giving these to a friend's daughter and buying the real good skates! She already has more confidence than my Son did at 2 1/2 without these.

If you are on the fence about these, get off it and buy them. Our kids safety is worth the 20-25 bucks and you will be so thankful they don't have to always hold your hand for every little thing. It really isn't so good on the back skating lap after lap bent over as another reviewer wrote. Trust me! I did that for a year with the "real good skates" that were not so good since my athleticly talented Son simply could not fully operate for quite a while, safely. Performance must be earned! Safety, operability and education come first and foremost and these skates deliver that! Just get them before they are too old that they become embarrassed for having plastic trainer skates.

UPDATE: It has been 8 months and the skates are still sturdy and near perfect, minus some scratches. I can't believe they held up, but the results are clear. She never got hurt and she has a good level of confidence. Moving them from Step 1 (completely locked) to Step 2 (only rolls forward), she landed on her tail a few times which made her be more careful. That saved her from falling on her face! Time to move her to big girl skates with slow bearings. I'm glad I bought these and she can still wear them in the house.

UPDATE #2: It has been 1.5 years and I passed these along to another toddler at the rink. They survived and never were damaged besides understandable scratches to the toe area. I couldn't be more pleased with this first time set of skates for children 3 and under. 4yo tops... I can't believe they lasted and were still sturdy. Very good quality!

My daughter got these for her third birthday (my only gripe is that they, like anything else not pink, are categorized as "boys" toys) and she loves them. She was able to use them right out of the box and moved from setting 1 to setting 2 very quickly. She is looking forward to learning to skate like her big brother! She is small for her age and these fit her size 5/6 foot very well. I think she is going to get a lot of use from them in the next few years. An excellent purchase for any child, regardless of gender!

We bought these for my four-year old boy. He is a timid child and was only theoretically interested in roller skating. I knew that as soon as he felt terra firma slip out from under him, he would immediately throw in the towel.

These skates were perfection in helping him bridge that divide between "I want to skate" and "I don't want to fall". We put them on Setting #1 (front wheels locked) and let him tromp around in the house until he felt confident. Then it was off to the tennis court where he insisted on moving the setting to #2 (front wheels roll forward but not backward). There was one initial slip and cry, but after that he started a steep but fast climb on the learning curve. He had so much fun and had no trouble figuring out how to stand himself up after falling.

We're just dipping our toes into Setting #3 (wheels roll freely) but it's been nothing but an enjoyable phase for us. Dad and I are now shopping for our own skates to make this a family affair.

I rarely give anything 5 stars, even less often with kid gear which is almost always shoddy quality. These skates, though, are A+++++.

My 2 year old boy LOVES these skates. We have the front wheels locked and he just kind of walks around in them, but he thinks its great fun. It helps with his balance and soon we can unlock the wheels and let him go. My husband wants him to ice skate this winter (heaven help my nerves). I figured these would be a good way to introduce that activity to him. When he isn't wearing them he drives them around the house. He can even put them on himself. I think they are something that we will get long time use out of.

These skates are fun and clever; kudos to whoever invented the mechanism that allows you to change settings between no wheels rolling (walking mode), forward only (toddler can push forward and not risk one foot rolling away behind them), or forward and backward rolling (normal skating).

These are excellent skates for puttering around the apartment. Our son is not quite 4 yet, so he wears the skates over a pair of socks and shoes to get a snug fit. If they are being used on a hard surface like hardwood floor or parking lot, I'd recommend helmet, knee and elbow pads. Puttering around on the carpet is actually doable in these skates. You should let your child try to skate without holding onto you though, so their hands and arms are free to move around and help them keep balance- my son seemed more likely to fall while he was holding onto my arm than when he was just holding his arms out for balance. You will want to stay close to spot/catch your child if they slip an odd way on a slippery floor or stumble otherwise (it takes a bit of leg muscle/control to keep feet moving in the same direction when the skate wheels are fully unlocked), but the skates are generally sound.

He can also put them on and off by himself which is a plus for convenience and confidence.

Excellent beginner skates for small children to get comfortable moving around on skates. I'm not sure I'd bring my child out to a skating rink on these- too much traffic, but good around the house.

My 2.5 year old daughter LOVES these skates. She couldn't get them on fast enough and took to them like a little pro. I purchased a helmet and knee/elbow pads for safety. I love the idea they will grow with her foot size too. It is great exercise for her and it gets her out of the house. No regrets, I purchase these again in a heartbeat.

My son is 2.5 years old and he really likes these skates. He was a bit reluctant at first but once he started to understand the concept, he did pretty good. I purchased a helmet and elbow/knee pads to make it as safe as possible for him. No regrets making this purchase. They seem to really help foster his NEED for independence.

My 9 year old daughter had her birthday party at a skating rink this year and my younger daughter who just turned two wanted to skate. I didn't think about these in advance so we rented skates for her and she was miserable. The regular skates scared her. We decided to buy her these and she is thrilled. She feels safer since we can lock them to only go forward and she feels like a big girl since she gets to skate too. These are great for young learners.
