very disappointed, August 27, 2006

My 5 year old son bought this and we were very disappointed. It is very heavy so it's not easy for a child to hold up, etc. Also, the push button that is supposed to engage the wings did not work at all. Even my son wanted to return this item because he said it was "too heavy"...I would not recommend especially at this price!!!!

My Four year old son received this toy as a gift for his fourth birthday. This toy is not that heavy and works great. He can operate the glider feature just fine and has tons of fun with it. This toy is excellent for the 4 to 7 year olds and I would recommend it to any parent looking to make a great addition to any Avatar lover's collection!
When the glider expands if you have a child who will want to ram the wings into a wall, I can see your concern. But if your child is like most, they will have a great time pretending to fly around the house like Aang. Putting the wings back in to make it a staff again, could be tricky, but not difficult. The wings fold up like an accordion and if handled too rough, like any toy, could break. (hence the 3 star for durable)
Overall the staff/glider is cool and makes fun swoosh sounds as your kid runs around the house. The sound is not too loud and over all very tolerable.
Your child will enjoy this toy.

This toy was purchased as a prop for our 4-year-old son's Halloween costume, but it has been so much more in the end. He has spent countless hours pretending to be an air-bender/the avatar, flying around the house, or batting at imaginary fire nation navy fireballs. He loved to pretend to airbend before, but this one toy has taken his play to a whole new level. I thought he'd love the costume, but he hasn't worn it since Halloween. The staff, though, has probably been in his hand daily since he received it. I've caught him sitting with it at his side having imaginary planning meetings with Sokka, Toph, and other allies. Suffice it to say, it has really lit the flame of his imagination.
Some of the reviews I read before puchasing it mentioned that it might be too heavy or did not work, but my son manipulates it fine (he's 4 1/2), and both the sound effects (which you *can* turn off!) and the 2 sets of pop out wings have worked just fine.
