The kids went CRAZY over this one! First the hole in the sand! HOW cool!! All the animals fit, the guys, treasure, or even just the swords and stuff! A great idea! We also like the Tiki hut roof and the log walls, sand floors are really cool and the palm tree rocks!

Our creative kids created two sand islands with the sets (Pirate ship added for more walls and floors, and the Nautical 'shipwreck' feel) and then made a big tree with the Lost Fortress... Know what they played? SURVIVOR!!! The tree is Tribal Council, "the tribe has spoken." LOL! Tooo fun!

Worthy of the price and lots of things to change this one into! Great idea!!!

Its a great toy. It has a place for the pirates to sleep, shelter, etc. I use it with my other Imaignext sets for battles. It stays set up in my room for days! I recommend this toy!

I don't know why the previous reviewer submitted a review---he doesn't own the toy, has never seen it, yet he submits a review?!! Amazon...you should remove that review since it doesn't accurately reflect the toy's value.
We, on the other hand, DO own this toy and my 4 year old son absolutely loves it!!! He often combines it with the other Imaginext products and creates a different toy each time. The wonderful thing about Imaginext is the freedom it provides to create an endless possibility of ideas. One day he might construct each system according to the "plan" provided. Another day he might combine the construction pieces with the castle and forest pieces, creating large fortresses and towers. His imagination soars when he plays with these toys and he seems to never tire of them. I would highly recommend Imaginext toys for any child. I only wish they would produce a line that was geared toward girls---maybe a fairytale castle or enchanted forest?

My 3 year old loves his pirate island. There is a place for buried treasure, working canons (which are made not to cause injuries), fallen trees and lots of little accessories. Although he is not old enough, the island has the capability to be arranged and built in many different ways. Plenty of potential to grow into it for many years.

I like the dragons and the cool looking characters. I like how you can build different things by taking it apart and building new things.

You can mix pieces from different sets.

I bought this toy for my son a year ago, when he turned 4. He LOVES it! Especially since Pirates of the Carribean came out. He spends hours playing with the Island and the Battle Castle, which we also have and love.

There were a few complaints by previous buyers as to the amount of pieces and the fact that it falls apart. There are a lot of small pieces that are accessories that we put in a little "treasure box" that we bought from Walmart. (Just a $3 box with a little buckle lock.) Our son stores the small pieces in there and he hasn't lost any small pieces in a year. When he wants to fully accesorize his island, he pulls them out and sets them up. (But he is a pretty organized kid.) We love the accessories because it adds so much to the adventure.

The island is pretty compact if you follow the instructions and use the little 3 prong footers. If you don't, it will fall apart fairly easily. Our son can pick the entire island up and carry it to another room without it falling apart.

NOTE: If your child trashes things a lot or likes to hit, bang and smash their toys, then this is probably NOT the toy for them. But if they take care of their toys and have a vivid imagination, this IS the toy for them.

All in all, we LOVE this toy and would definitely purchase it again! He got the Battle Castle the same year (as stated earlier) and we just got the Glow in the Dark Pirate Ship which he LOVES! We're going to get the Pirate Raider and Glow in the Dark Shark & Skeleton next.

Both as a father and as a toy collector I really love the Imaginext toys from Fisher Price, especially the playsets. I find them extremely well-made and detailed nad easy for kids to use. Most of all they are very fun and give kids a real sense of wonder and adventure that is lacking in so many toys today.

The Buccaneer Bay playset is another in Fisher price's line of Pirate themed Imaginext toys. This can be used seperately or in conjunction with other sets or figures to have one giant pirate world! This one is the secret hideout of a band of cutthroat pirates. There is a hidden compartment on the beach's lagoon that opens up to hide the pirate's treasure. The pirates have a large cannon ready to defend their loot.

The Island itself can be assembled in several ways since the trees and bushes are inter-changeable so you have some variety for building. Comes with two pirates and a boat as well. Some pieces do fall off but I have not had as much trouble as other reviewers seem to have had. i think it really depends on how rough your child is with the set. Fun toy!

This pirate set was bought on sale and I would gladly have paid full price for it. I got it for my 8 yr old nephew after the pirate ship (he got that at 6 1/2) and boy, does this get a lot of play. His 5 yr old brother loves, my 4 yr old dauhter loves it and so does the other 8 yr old nephew.

It is big enough that all 4 kids can play and interact together. It stays together pretty darn well and compared to the Playmobil stuff (which is like 2 1/2 times more expensive) I think it's better. The plastic is not as thick as the Playmobil but it doesn't need connector pieces to join 2 walls together (the Imaginext has male/female holes for snapping together).

Overall, I think this is a great set to go with either the Pirate Ship or even the castles. I even think it is great as a stand alone toy, even if you have no pirates or the other Imaginext sets.

What a wonderful time the child has with this, it has enough extra's to make it fun and challenging. He can set it up in several ways and incorporate it with other toys. I think most children from 3 to 7 would enjoy this.

This looked great on the box... until I opened it and saw the hundreds of pieces. It took me about half an hour to build correctly. There's no way my son (5 years) could've done this. I doubt whether many kids within the recommended age range of 4-10 year could assembly it by themselves. Once it has been put together, it is impressive. However, the pieces don't lock together really securely so it soon falls apart with play. As the pieces fall off, I have to constantly put the thing back together. If I don't, the kids get bored with it. I've no doubt that some of the many pieces will soon get lost as they fall off and it'll be put in the toy graveyard with all of last Christmas's bad choices. I gave a 3 for durability because most of the pieces are fairly unbreakable (unlike PlayMobil) even though the assembled toy falls apart easily.
