If you're new to the Imaginext line, I have to tell you that I have never been disappointed. They are sturdy, well built and designed toys, especially for the preschool set. They're size fits perfectly in little hands and I don't get nervous about choking hazard with these. They're also really cute and age appropriate. Yes it's Batman or super heroes, but the faces and colors are done in a way where they're friendly, not like the toys made for older kids where there is a menacing look and feel to the characters. And lastly, these toys have lasted us YEARS. We first started collecting the Imaginext Batman toys for our older son and now 5 years later, we still have them, they're still being used, they're still in one piece, not broken. That alone says a lot about the quality and durability of the line.
The car rolls well. Like any toy with wheels that are hard, flat, shiny plastic, the "tires" have no traction, so on hard surfaces your child will notice that some wheels don't roll sometimes while it's being pushed. Remember when toy cars used to have rubberized tires? Me too.
The disc shooter works great. It's a very simple mechanism - just uses a little friction and spring tension, so it's mechanical and not electronic. Flip up the hidden shooter (contained in the trunk lid), slide in a disc, then push on a little slider and the disc flies out in a satisfyingly fast, but not too fast or far, way. The shooter can be angled up and down, for more fun via variety. The two discs can be stored in the trunk.
As others have said, two discs is too few. They are easy to lose. We're currently down to one after a week of use, though we know the other one is somewhere in the house. Including at least a couple more, or selling replacements, would be a good idea. I plan to measure the one we have left in case I need to fashion a replacement later. They seem to be roughly the size of a poker chip, though from the look of the mechanism, you'd need to use something the exact same size for it to work.
The headlight mechanism is a mixed bag.Read more ›
