It was great fun for about three weeks. My son (6 years old) loved it and we didn't have any issues. Then the mouth stopped working. I started looking at reviews and saw that I actually got more use out of it than most since many reviews noted the mouth stopped working within the first week. We are still playing with it, but for the price I would expect more.

We took our 3 year old son to the store to buy a new toy with his Piggy Bank savings and when he saw this toy on a store display, he wanted it immediately! It was so cool looking, we couldn't resist, so we pitched in the difference - we got it for $129.99. We have been playing with it for almost 2 hours straight now, and it is DEFINITELY worth the money! My son and 1 1/2 year old daughter absolutely LOVE it! I was amazed at how well it worked, and it is loaded with surprises, like going to sleep (yawning & snoring included) after 2 minutes of inactivity, and a music button that plays jungle-type music that is pretty neat.

My son is almost 4, and he is able to use the remote pretty well in making Spike do what he wants him to do. Unfortunatley, my 38 year old husband keeps hoarding the remote! This is a great entertainment piece if you have friends over, and I am sure this will be one toy that is not simply played with for five minutes and then tossed aside.

One thing to note: it takes 4 hours to charge the included battery, so pull that out early and charge if it will be a present. Also, you need 3 AA batteries for the remote (not included).

5.0 out of 5 stars Rooooaaaarr Rooooaaaar ... Moose Meat! Moose Meat! ..., October 28, 2008

I bought this toy for my 18 month old son, Fox. When he saw this thing while walking around Target one early Monday morning, he couldn't stop from hitting the big orange button on the front of the plastic case. About a half-hour later I was able to break free, but only after he understood that I was taking the Dinosaur box with me.

We have a lot of fun playing with the remote together. This is actually a toy that he can use without any problem or difficulty. He wakes up in the morning now and 'Roooaaaaarrrrs!!!!' ... runs out of bed and hits the activation button on the Dino's back to wake him up, which then gets a big yawn from his new green, plastic friend.

I had to explain to several relatives when they were shocked to see my Son "roaring". They didn't have a clue that he was 'playing Dino'. When I told them I bought him the Dinosaur toy from Target, I got a few raised eyebrows because I purchased it the first few days it was out and paid the $169.99 they were asking. I've now seen the price drop to $129.99 everywhere from Amazon to Wal-Mart. Strangely though, Wal-Mart is the only place that doesn't have the large plastic display for it, or at least not where I live and it's a Super-Wal-Maze.

'Spike' The Dino utters several guttural phrases like what sounds like 'moose meat' when he sniffs the ground. I'm hoping my son doesn't start to continually repeat 'moose meat!' either ;) , He also walks like an awkward beast and 'booms' with every step.

There's a button which turns on the 'jungle music'. Your toddler is sure to dance right along with it as mine does every time.

The Dino sounds are:

1. Laughing (Ha ha ha ha haaaaa)
2. Sneezing (Raaaa-chooo)
3. Sniffing (Sniff Sniff Sniff Sniff...)
4. Moose meat! Moose Meat! (or something similar, lol)
5. Grunting (Urgh urgh urgh urgh)
6. Giant Roars (Two Big Roars)
7. Booms (with every step he takes)
8. Music (Optional soft drumming, calypso like)
9. Sleeping snores (zzzz-zzzzz-zzzzz)
10. "Money Grubbin', Money Grubbin'" (at least that what it sounds like he says). I know, I know. It sure is funny though to hear it.

He does several other things like other grunt sounds, coughing, growling, the sound your dog makes while pulling on a rope, etc., it's a blast overall.

The spikes down the back are soft and not a real concern regarding touching or even lifting the toy at all.

The only real thing to be concerned about is when whipping the neck around with the controller, be careful not to get bonked in the head as I have a few times when I wasn't paying attention.

There's a volume adjustment on the device for either soft or loud and the soft isn't ear-splitting, but pleasant. The Loud isn't bad -- it's just loud, but not annoying.

This will easily be the best toy of the season and probably the most sought after in the coming months. I keep seeing the shelf empty at the three Target stores near my house (Indio, La Quinta and Palm Desert)

I have to recharge the main battery for four hours in the evening probably once every five days, depending on use. If you leave it on, the Dino automatically goes to sleep, and then switches off. The remote distance is about eight feet.

This is a great toy that your young one won't tire of. I wish I had this thing when I was a kid.

yes it's expensive, but my 4 yr old girl loves dinos. it is very interactive, it has a sense of humor and HUGE! if you have a dino loving kid and don't mind the cost, it's really a cool toy, also we don't live in an area that would stock a toy this pricey so ordering it online we saved and got an awesome toy. shouldn't be missed for dino lovers!

My daughter has a friend who has a six year old son. His birthday is coming up and my daughter asked me what he would like as a gift. I happened to be in a store and I saw Spike on display. The little boy has had a difficult life so I did not think twice about shelling out the $130 for Spike. I know my daughter's friend's six year old son will love Spike. The only problem is I took it out of the box to assemble it and to charge the batteries.....I've been playing with it for an hour.....the kid's not getting it.....it's mine! I love it and I'm 62 years old!
PS my childhood buddy who is a local dentist happened to stop by my home. I showed him Spike and he flew out of my house to go purchase a Spike for his 5 year grandson for Christmas....I hope my buddy gives it to his grandson!

My 4 year old son wanted this really bad for Christmas. I hesitated because of the price and the fact that he never plays with any toys for very long, but I couldn't disappoint him. He loved it and played with it everyday for over a month, until the mouth stopped working. I am so glad I read some other reviews to learn this is a common problem and not something he did to break it. I called Fisher Price and they are sending a mailing label for me to return it and they will send a new one. No original box or receipt required! While I'm disappointed that it malfunctioned, I'm very happy, at least at this point, about the customer service. Hopefully we'll have better luck with the next one.

My 3 year old daughter is going through a dinosaur phase right now. She runs through the house roaring and grrarring at everything. I saw this on the Fisher Price website and it was a PERFECT MATCH! I immediately went out and got one! Toys R Us has him on display behind plexiglass if you need to "meet" him first. At nearly 3 feet tall, he's huge and cute and OH, OH SO FUN!! This is definitely one of the CUTEST TOYS out there! He really is JUST AMAZING! He does so many cool things. When we walks it booms. When he rears back and sways his head, he's fierce! When he sniffs and snorts, he's adorable. There's some literature out there that claims he picks up "boulders" and launches them (the display did not do this but I cannot wait to see it)!! You cannot go wrong bringing this guy into your home, I thoroughly enjoy him and cannot imagine a soul who wouldn't. It's going to be LOVE when my daughter meets him under the Christmas tree this year. I already know she's not going to take her hands off of him!! Baby sister (11 months) was with me when I bought him. She giggled at the display while banging on the plexiglass to try and get to him for nearly 10 minutes before I had to tear her away. I CANNOT WAIT FOR CHRISTMAS!!! It's going to be GOOD!! THIS IS GOING TO BE ONE HOT, HOT, TOY. This is going to be one of those toys for this generation of kids that they will remember playing with fondly as a child.
