5.0 out of 5 stars Needs a little maintenance

1.0 out of 5 stars Works about 5% of the time
This car was given as a gift to my 4 yr old. It would only make engine sounds but wouldn't move. We replaced batteries, no change.
The product was returned for another one which was similar except it might work 5 out of 100 tries. Worthless. We will return this one and pick another toy.

My son got this toy for his fourth birthday this week and yesterday we started having the same problems reported by others: when you turned the key the toy would make a short motor sound and blink the lights under the dashboard twice, but then it wouldn't start rolling. I figured it was the batteries that came with the toy and replaced them, to no avail. At that point I decided to open the toy to see if I could figure out what the problem was.

After just a few minutes I figured it out. Under the hood, there is a "kill switch" that's activated by the front wheels, so that the toy won't start if it's not on the ground with the front wheels pushed up. Great idea in theory, but it apparently came loose while my son had been playing with it. I reseated it and reattached the body of the toy and it works like a charm again.

Which is great because my son absolutely loves this toy. Now that I know how to maintain it, I expect he'll be enjoying it for a long time to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars To make it work, December 26, 2010

It's easy to make it work.

1. Change batteries and try it.

If it still does not work:

2. Open it up (6 or 7 screws underneath
3. There is a push button rubber switch located under the bonnet. Put a few layers of insolation tape on the bit that touches this rubber button when cover is on.

Hope this hepls you as it really is a great toy when it goes!

The perfect Batmobile for the Imaginext Batcave and a wonderful stand-alone toy. Lights, sounds, "leap-forward" action and a speedy motor. Seats 2 Imaginext figures. Another excellent addition to the Imaginext Batman line.

My son received this toy for his birthday 2 years ago. It is still going strong, and still looks great. My only grip is it slamming into my baseboards but the toy is actually really fun and handles the carpet great too which not alot of motorized cars can. This was his first imaginext toy and what brought me searching for more toys from them for his upcoming birthday.

This is a very nice part of the Imaginext Batman set when it works. So far it's worked fine for US but obviously others haven't been so fortunate. There is an "on/off" switch under the car, which should be switched off when not in use. Recently the car stopped moving (though it did make the sounds) but a fresh set of batteries solved our problem w/o having to remove the bottom.

Clearly this "kill switch" is a design flaw.

Bought this toy a while ago, nice toy. Has rubber tires to give some traction, has a a solit and hefty feel to it as well. Have not had the intermittent working problems others have noted - just make sure you have good batteries in it.
Headroom in the cockpit is a bit lacking - can't fit Mr Freeze in it - Hey what's he doing in there!!!
Just found out with my son last night last night that it does nice doughnuts on our 70's formica counter.

Enjoy

Fun for my four year old and my two year old. Easy to turn the "key" to start the car - fun to watch it go! Easy to get Batman in and out. VERY durable and sturdy - can't see this toy breaking anytime soon - it has to go through three boys in our family! Lots of fun.

We just bought this car for my son's 5th birthday. After reading the reviews, I was skeptical, but decided to give it a shot. My son was very excited about it, we opened it up. As many reviews said, it made the engine noise, but didn't move at all. Since I had read the reviews, I decided to open it up, like someone mentioned there was a "kill switch". Everything was fine when I opened it up, and it still didn't work. Then I decided to put in new batteries... and it worked! Wish I had tried that first, but most have mentioned after they changed the batteries, still didn't work :) My boys, 5 & 3 1/2 had a great time playing with it. It's definitely a fun toy. I definitely recomment it, however try the batteries first :)
