We bought this Game Player for our, then 1 1/2 year old, last Christmas because he had always been interested in electronic toys (or the phone, or remote...) and was always trying to take the Leapster or Gameboy games away from my older children. I knew it was a bit young for him, but it looked tough and durable. We thought that even if he couldn't really play the games, he might enjoy having a game of his own. It also seemed like a toy he could grow into. Well, he's 2 1/2 now, and he LOVES this toy. I love that it's small and "kid-tough!" It's the perfect size for him, with big easy-to-use buttons. I can throw it in my purse so my son can use it in the car, or sitting in the cart at the grocery store, or waiting for a meal in a restaurant. (It has 2 volumes-- but isn't terribly loud, even when it's turned up.) Now he is even able to play most of the games as they were meant to be played (as opposed to just pressing buttons as he did when he was younger). I would highly recommend this toy!

My 4-year-old loves it, June 17, 2007

My daughter received this as a gift for her fourth birthday, and she loves it. The soccer, pinball, and space invaders games are her favorites. I like the fact that each game lasts only about one minute, then it displays the score. We're sneaking in some education about numbers -- she says "I got two five points," and I can tell her that "two five" is twenty-five.
I was skeptical about this game at first (I don't let my kids watch TV or play other video games), but this hasn't taken the place of my daughter's other toys or imaginative play. She enjoys it enough to play a little every day, but not all day long. My two-year-old also thinks it's fun, though he doesn't really understand the object of the game.
Like the kid tough digital camera, this is a well thought out toy for little kids. There are few buttons and no confusing menus. It is easy for a child to select one of the eight games and get started playing. I wish the screen had a little more contrast, but at least the contrast is adjustable. Overall, I would recommend this for any preschooler who is interested in video games.

Very rugged, screen display is dismal, January 13, 2009

I would rate this much higher, but the screen display is difficult for my son to see. The background is grey and the images are black. The item is very rugged and easy for him to manipulate (buttons are well placed).
