3.0 out of 5 stars Very rugged, screen display is dismal
I would rate this much higher, but the screen display is difficult for my son to see. The background is grey and the images are black. The item is very rugged and easy for him to manipulate (buttons are well placed).

We bought this Game Player for our, then 1 1/2 year old, last Christmas because he had always been interested in electronic toys (or the phone, or remote...) and was always trying to take the Leapster or Gameboy games away from my older children. I knew it was a bit young for him, but it looked tough and durable. We thought that even if he couldn't really play the games, he might enjoy having a game of his own. It also seemed like a toy he could grow into. Well, he's 2 1/2 now, and he LOVES this toy. I love that it's small and "kid-tough!" It's the perfect size for him, with big easy-to-use buttons. I can throw it in my purse so my son can use it in the car, or sitting in the cart at the grocery store, or waiting for a meal in a restaurant. (It has 2 volumes-- but isn't terribly loud, even when it's turned up.) Now he is even able to play most of the games as they were meant to be played (as opposed to just pressing buttons as he did when he was younger). I would highly recommend this toy!

5.0 out of 5 stars My 4-year-old loves it, June 17, 2007

My daughter received this as a gift for her fourth birthday, and she loves it. The soccer, pinball, and space invaders games are her favorites. I like the fact that each game lasts only about one minute, then it displays the score. We're sneaking in some education about numbers -- she says "I got two five points," and I can tell her that "two five" is twenty-five.

I was skeptical about this game at first (I don't let my kids watch TV or play other video games), but this hasn't taken the place of my daughter's other toys or imaginative play. She enjoys it enough to play a little every day, but not all day long. My two-year-old also thinks it's fun, though he doesn't really understand the object of the game.

Like the kid tough digital camera, this is a well thought out toy for little kids. There are few buttons and no confusing menus. It is easy for a child to select one of the eight games and get started playing. I wish the screen had a little more contrast, but at least the contrast is adjustable. Overall, I would recommend this for any preschooler who is interested in video games.

5.0 out of 5 stars A basic electronic toy, that holds a young kid's interest., November 7, 2008

My son is into all sorts of electronic games, many of which have way better graphics than this does. But that doesn't seem to matter. He got this as a game last year when he was 4, and still asks to play with it regularly. There are many games to play on it, but he favors the ricochet style game and the frogger style game where you get the dog from the curb to the gate without having it get hit.

The noise level isn't that bad, but sometimes I do put a piece of duct tape over the speaker if we'll be somewhere like at a doctor's office where I don't want him to disturb others.

The graphics are not the best, no color obviously, and very basic. It would drive me nuts, but my son does not mind- and he is the one that is playing it. For the price I don't think you will find better.

Another thing I like about it is it's size. It fits easily into a purse for traveling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great toy, but it's no xbox!, January 12, 2008

I purchased this for my 5 yr old for Christmas. Unfortunatly someone else gave him an xbox, and this preschool video game was left unopened.

So I wrapped it back up and gave it to my 5 yr old nephew. He LOVES it. He was having so much fun playing with it that my 8 yr old niece wanted to play even though she has a nintendo ds.

The games are simple yet fun. I would say that this would be for the 3-5 range, no older than 6 because the games do not keep the attention that long. But the short games are a great thing for younger children who have short attention spans. The game sounds were not too annoying on Christmas day, however it was loud in the house with all the people, so who knows. My younger nephews (1 and 2) gt ahold of the game and dropped it a few times. It didn't break or get a scratch. That is what I LOVE about the kid tough products.

My son did enjoyed this toy for the first couple of days, but he is not a tech child. I found this toy to be ok. I wish it was brighter internally so you can see better as you play the game. He doesn't reach for it at all now.

I bought this for my then 3 year old for Christmas a few years ago. She's now 6 and still likes to play with it. Amazingly, the batteries I put in it when we first gave it to her are still working. Fun, simple games and very durable (she's very rough on her toys).

I purchsed the Preschool Game player for our grandson's 4 yr birthday. He loved it as did all the adults waiting in line to play! This is James' version of Game Boy.

My older children had other game players, so I thought I better buy something for my two-year old to play with too. This Fisher Price Kid-Tough Game Player has been perfect. The graphics are very rudimentary, but he is little and doesn't care about that. I have been mostly impressed with the durability. He left it outside in the rain one night, and it still works! It gets dropped down the stairs and slid across the kitchen floor, and it still works!

We bought this for my 3.5 yo boy so we could have him play the game while we drive (to prevent thumb sucking). We played it and it wasn't so much fun for my husband. The graphics are small and only black/white. But our 3yo seems to like the games. He really likes the memory game and the rabbit hopping game (think Frogger on a smaller, basic scale). We've had it a month and he's not bored yet. He has a Leapster in the other car, and he likes that too but not to the point of not-wanting this game. Too bad the sound won't mute, but luckily the other kids in our car are babies so they don't seem to care.
