5.0 out of 5 stars Exceeded Expectations!! September 29, 2011
Product Packaging:Retail| Color Name:Black|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Before I go on and on about how much fun we've had already with this camera, I wanted to point out a few things people should know before they purchase this product:

1) It does not come with its own USB cord, but if you already own a digital camera or MP3 player of some kind, chances are you already have a cord that will work.

2) They actually put in some quality Duracell batteries, instead of generic store batteries (it takes four AA batteries), but...

3) ...it does not come with an SD card. You can still use this camera without one, but having a memory card (SD up to 32G) will greatly increase what you can do with this, esepcially when it comes to videos.

As far as the video recording feature goes, I was shocked at how well the sound and picture came through. You do not have to be next to a person to record their voice; I was able to record what my son was saying from across the room.

When it comes to photos, there are 25 little extra things you can add (ex: clown nose, vampire fangs, sunglasses) to a picture, as well as a morphing feature...and that's just the in-camera editing features...there are more things you can do if you download some special software from online (but I didn't want to add anymore stuff to my laptop). You can mix and match the extras to create dozens of unique looks (the instructions in the accompanying booklet were clear & concise, and any kid that can read independently could figure it all out on their own). We did about 100 different photos to test out the camera. My 6 yr old laughed his head off the whole time.

The swiveling lens was wonderful to use for self-portraits. There is also a little green check mark that pops on the screen to tell the child when it is optimal to snap the photo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to 'real' photography! September 22, 2011
Product Packaging:Retail| Color Name:Black|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is a 'real' camera, albeit not the highest-end one out there. But that's fine for what it is. It's easy to use, and gives a decent photo. After going over it myself, I had my grandson try it. Now, the age for this is 3-6, and my grandson is just a bit over 2, but his mother is a professional photographer (as am I), so he 'gets' what taking a photo is all about.

He found the flip over lens fascinating- and I agree, what a great design! It allows the child to see him or herself in the viewfinder and take his/her own photo! He immediately started taking photos around the house and outside. He didn't quite get the need to have the image in the viewfinder, but that is something that I feel is due to his younger than targeted age, and it's a matter of learning how to use a camera. He was thrilled with it and managed to get several usable/saveable shots on his first try.

Going over the camera, the design is quite good. It was a little too easy to delete shots - simply pressing the trashcan/X button twice while previewing the image does it. It's truly sturdily built - I believe it will withstand being dropped without any problems. The movie feature is also nice, though the volume on playback was quite low. I didn't upload any video to the computer, so it may be much louder once uploaded, but did upload several photos to see how they held up once on my computer. They were okay. Colors were reasonably good. Exposures were a bit over-sensitive, meaning the darkest areas were pretty dark and the lightest areas were bleached out. However, although this happened, it was not excessive, and in a less contrasty space, doesn't happen too much. The quality is as good as my -old- cell-phone images.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 Stars - Fun, Fun, Fun Camera for the Young October 10, 2011
Product Packaging:Retail| Color Name:Purple|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
The Fisher Price Kid-Tough See Yourself Camera has a few cons that cost it half a star for me, so I'll get those out of the way

* Biggest issue - if you insert an SD card with existing pictures on it - those pictures are automatically erased. So you always want to insert a new or emptied card.

* The USB cable should be included so you don't have to hunt for one - the batteries are included so it is ready to go but not the cable for downloading and kids want to download right away.

PROS

* Easy to use and the kids love this camera. They can swivel the lens to take pictures of themselves or of others. The "Smiley" button lets them add hats/hair stamps, distort facial features, or add things like beards or an elephant trunk to the subject's face. No end of fun there for the kids.

* The camera is durable, no worries about them dropping this camera - it will last.

* The camera has an automatic shut-off feature if the kids don't use it and it kicks in pretty fast for battery conservation.

*The camera features are so enticingly fun to see and use that older kids and even adults will want to take a "try" which makes the camera more of a family experience.

OTHER NOTES

The camera makes sounds when the buttons are depressed, which means if the little ones are taking pictures at a "quiet" occasion, you are going to hear it. It would be nice if there was an "off" button for the sounds so the kids could mimic adults in these instances (at a wedding, awards ceremony, etc.).
