We needed this for our 1-year-old daughter. No doubt that she likes toys, and specially if this is a computer-based. But, I thought it is a USB based thing--so you don't need the original keyboard--and a stand-alone equipment. This was not true: the toy is a simple piece of Plastic that you, when clicking on one button of it, just mechanically push the keyboard button below it (you HAVE TO set the keyboard below the toy. This is annoying, and this is never fits in the first try--although we always manage to do it, and the daughter plays with it. BUt the very need for the existence of a keyboard DISTRACTS the baby. She starts pushing the ACTUAL keyboard buttons (those which this toy is not enough wide to cover, like the enter key and all the keypad). Here, you lose the concentration of the kid.
Moreover, the software accompanying this toy, I would say, is not very educational. The thing is that at this age you would like to have your kid know "Action and interaction" effects. That is, when the baby pushes a button she must see/hear ONE thing, so that she starts to associate things together, and understand that for her push on the button there is a reaction to wait for. What happens in this software, that it is OVERWHELMING with sounds, voices, and pictures, and those come up whether you click on the button once, twice, or NEVER. The 'first-stage' of this software (it has 3 stages) is very confusing. And other than the total noise intake, the kid gets nothing--and the parents get headache. OK, overall, the baby will enjoy clicking a bit. But, I think the educational value is lost due to the badly designed software, and there is no physical convenience in setting this up--since it is no a simple USB plug and play thing. But rather physical thing with unstable setting.

Great idea and product and once you get it setup it works great the problem is, if you need to remove if from the keyboard it is a pain to set back into place. Getting it aligned with the keys is not as easy as you would hope it would be.

When I first purchased this product I was a little disappointed: I had hoped to get more for my $25 and positioning the keyboard was a little awkward. However, my daughter who is 20 months old asks to play with this toy everyday and I have become quite accustomed to setting up the keyboard. This is a great toy for satisfying a toddler's curiosity over a computer.

The problem with the computer learning system is that the product description leaves out crucial information. The hardware specifications listed give the minimum system requirements, which computer exceeds, but it doesn't say that you have to have a desktop computer which is a pretty important thing to specify. Even if I purchase a separate keyboard to go with it it can't be used with a standard computer desk with a keyboard drawer. It can only be used on a flat table significantly larger than the average computer work station. This should have been it's own keyboard, not something that you have to attach to the keyboard of your desktop machine. I would definitely purchased a different product if the product description had been up front with the requirements.

This toy consists of software and the "keyguard". I had thought that the keyguard actually does something, all that the it does is sit on top of your regular keypad to activate certain responses from the software. The keyguard can be tightened on to the keyboard. I do not use this method. I just place the keyguard over top of the keyboard and it works just fine. Yes, it can be knocked off but it only takes a few seconds to put it back on. The program is very cute. It offers 3 different settings based on your child's level. I usually use setting 2 with my 20 month old. It identifies numbers and counts to the number. It also identifies letters and something that begins with that letter. It shows shapes and plays several songs which my child loves to sing along to. Setting three is more intricate. It will ask the child to press a certain letter or shape for a desired response. This toy is only rated up to 24 months, but I think setting 3 could easily be appropriate for up to 36 months. The graphics are very cute and colorful to capture a child's attention. My only problem is that my child does not like to sit at the computer for very long at all. However, it is very educational and fun for a child. I wish that this was a tv program instead, it is much better than the v-smile baby and the little leaps programs. I would recommend this as a good toy for an older baby or young toddler.

I kept an eye out for this toy for my 6 month old daughter for Christmas. She always trys to tap on the keys on my computer, so I figured I would get her a keyboard of her own. This is very easy to install and set up, and has three aged-based levels. The first basically makes something pop up on the screen each time a key is tapped, and the highest level asks the child to push a certain button (i.e., press the yellow square or press the first letter in a certain word). Contrary to other reviews I have seen, it is very easy to set up, and looks like it will accomodate nearly any standard keyboard. It is just placed over the keyboard, so it does not have to be clamped down as I thought it would.

my dad got this game for my 3 yers old sister and she loves it and loves it to the moon and sun i play it with her on it some times and some times she plays by her self.
Addendum 03/31/2010> Parental comment: We have had this for over one year now. This is a wonderfully produced computer learning game. While having fun the toddler learns their ABC & 123. Gentle animated playfriends encourage the child to move from activity to activity. This is for the beginner. It has its own (fit over your adult keypad) child friendly keypad. Happy music. Nicely done. In regards to the autism community; This has proven to be a very engaging computer game play/learning instument. It has helped her progress in her alphabet & numbers identification. It is soothing and not overwhelming. Highly recommended.

I thought it was very sturdy and well made. I dont know what the other reviewers were talking about. It fit well over the keyboard, and worked perfectly. My boys understood it well, and it lasted over 7 years between the both of them!

It is a good toy, but you have trouble with the baby's hands... The baby does not focus only on the keytopper, but in the keyboard too... As a result of that, many windows starts to show on the screen because the baby press many keys at the same time......
