My son has the Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Love to Play Puppy and loves it so much so I thought this would be a good buy too but unfortunately as soon as I turned it on he started screaming and crying because the motor in the toy is so loud it is disturbing. While he is dancing and singing the motor is too loud to really hear the actual toy. The construction of the toy is odd seen is though it is meant for babies. Anyone with children know that they want to touch, pull, grab, and use things to help them balance or stand up. This toy is awkward to pick up for me. you can feel the electronics on the inside and I am worried that if he grabbed onto it he would break it or hurt himself. I think they should have put stuffing or something around the mechanics of this toy.. it makes it more of a look at toy which I am sure that's what they intended it for but babies don't have toys that need to be behind a glass case to play with safely.

This is a wonderful toy for a toddler! It is very large, as well made as one could expect at this price point and in this age of cruddy quality in general. Right off the bat you need to READ the instructions that tell you to turn the product ON (it came in demo mode and if left in that mode you are going to think the toy is defective). We also immediately turned the volume down as this is a very enthusiastic little puppy!

This is a very endearing, engaging little dog and it definitely feels like he is interacting with your child. He has a very inviting face and he plays games and sings songs and teaches practical things like ABCs and counting. This is a toy to actually hold your child's interest for more than two minutes! I think it is a great value compared to the many other toys out there that are in this price.

Before I tell everyone why I gave this toy such a high rating, yes the motor is loud and the music is louder. this toy is not for kids who hate loud noises. And of course it is going to annoy you. It's loud and repetitive, but it wasn't designed to please adults. It was designed to appeal to kids, particularly toddlers. My son took awhile to warm up to the puppy, but now at 21 months old he carries the thing all over the house. He has the original puppy that doesn't move, and also a leap frog scout puppy. He carries this dancing puppy around by it's ears and throws it frequently and it is still working fine. He loves to find the puppy's hands, feet, eyes, nose, ears and mouth. He also loves giving the puppy kisses on the nose. He claps along with the puppy and gets so excited when it sings and dances.

One of my kids immediately liked this play puppy and even started sleeping with it. This doll makes that kind of deep connection probably because of the cute way it moves. I don't like the way it feels to be perfectly honest. You can feel the hard plastic right under the "skin." It's not soft and cuddly.

If this doll were soft and cuddly, it probably couldn't stand up and dance as it does. This experience showed me that I have no predictive ability for toys. I cannot tell when a toy will be popular with my kids in advance, and whatever I don't like about a toy doesn't seem to matter to them.

The Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Dance and Play Puppy stands easily on his own. Even on carpet. My daughter thinks he's lots of fun. I've seen her dancing with him.
My daughter also has the original Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Learning Puppy. The puppies look very much alike but I prefer this new one. You can hear his gears when he moves, but the same is the case for my daughter's Elmo doll. And he's not as cuddly as the original puppy, but then he works better. He only has two buttons on his feet to press while the original has buttons to press on his hands, ears and feet. My original puppy had many issues. The most annoying of which was that if you ever moved him, he would immediately stop what he was doing and move on to something else. I've never heard him sing the complete alphabet. He would also creep me out by talking suddenly long after my daughter had put him down. This newer puppy seems to have integrated activity with learning and is more stable.

We bought this on a whim for my infant son because it is so cute. Thank goodness we did. He HATES "tummy time," but if "robot puppy" is there talking to him he laughs and tries to pull himself over to see his best friend. If he is screaming out on a visit to one of the big box stores, we stroll on over to the toy aisle to visit "robot puppy's cousin" and he calms right down.

The other reviews are correct: it sucks the life out of batteries like you wouldn't believe, and the gear noises are quite loud, but my son could care less. This toy has been such a life saver I bought another one in case they ever discontinue it!

This is a great toy! It is good for babies because there is movement as well as songs (lets count, ABCs, and more, and of course, phrases. Then when they are young tots, they will love to push the buttons and play and clap along and sing along. I bought this a year ago for Christmas when my grandbaby was just 7 months old and she loved it. She is now 16 mo and she still loves it! It is absolutely on the top 5 of her most enjoyed and played with toy. It is durable as we have all played with it over and over again. It's been knocked over and dropped many times (it says "opps" when that happens). She has a similar toy, but this Dance and Play has a lot more phrases and songs then the other. The batteries seem to last a long time too as compared to some of her other toys. I'm sure she will continue to enjoy it for awhile.

I bought this one over the less expensive and soft version because it moves and dances. That's why my 9mo loves it and has for months. He can't push the feet on his own yet but he tries.

Pros: bright and cheery
moves and draws attention
a wide variety of songs

Cons: tips over easily when in use by a less than coordinated 9mo
mechanical sounds are easy to hear but don't drown out music or scare my child
only plays for a few seconds before you have to push the button again, wish it played longer

If you want soft and cuddly, try the My Pal Scout or Violet by Vtech. They sing and light up similarly to the way that the soft cheaper version of this toy. The bonus is that you can program My Pal to say your child's name, use favorite songs, and mention things that your child likes (food, animal, etc). You can also hook the MyPal up to the computer and change out the songs, etc if you want to. That's why I picked the dancing version over the soft version - because I could get a soft musical toy with added features elsewhere.

UPDATE: at 1 year old my son LOVES this toy. He dances and claps with it. He can push the button on his own and is so proud when it comes on. I love it so much that I've bought one for each grandparent's house so that I can stop lugging ours around. It really is fantastic! Also, my son loves MyPal Scout (mentioned above) so much that it's become his lovie. It sleeps with his and rides in the car. It went to the doctor the other day as a great distraction. I've purchased another just in case something tragic happens.

"I purchased this after Christmas for my son who at the time was 10 months. He loved the toy, he would dance and wiggle with the toy . Yesterday it started to say just hi there and then would stop. This is usually what happens when the batteries are not strong enough for the puppy to move. I changed the batteries I put in last week in hopes it was an issue with the batteries and the problem would be resolved. Well, after putting in brand new batteries we got through the ABC's once and then it started going Hi there again. Now it won't work at all. I am very unhappy, for $40 dollars I should have gotten more than 3 months out of it. :("
