Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Sing-with-Me CD Player

I purchased this at a store yesterday for my son's 1st birthday, thinking that the disc gets put into the slot, and it plays the song printed on the disc. WRONG! When I put the first disc in, it only made a cutesy noise. It was then I realized how misleading the packaging is by how the toy is displayed.

This is a cute toy, and my son enjoys dancing to the songs--after I press a button 2-3 times to get THROUGH the noises and TO a song... He is also at the stage where he loves putting things in/taking them out, so he is entertained. I just don't see this having a lot of return play since the in/out phase won't last for too long, and he'll be moving on to other skills soon.

I had no problem paying fifteen bucks for the toy when I thought it worked as stated above, but I now feel ripped off after seeing how the toy actually works.

My son absolutely loves this toy! He loves music and it's his new favorite! He loves putting the "CDs" in the slot and in the front door too. He likes all the noises and sounds it makes and has no problem getting the music to play all by himself. It plays all the songs without the "CDs" which is a plus because the "CDs" get lost easily under furniture, etc. since they are small and flat.

The FIsher Price Laugh and Learn Sing with Me CD player is a bit of misleading since it doesn't play CDs. However, it does offer plenty of fun nursery rhymes, colorful flights, and small plastic discs (that are supposed to be the cds). Our daughter started playing with her player when she was younger than 6 months and she still loves playing with it now that she is two. Initially, she just liked the songs and blinking lights - then she advanced to trying to put the CDs into the player and now -she likes to sing-along with songs.

A few other notes

- The CDS don't actually play - they are just plastic discs

- variable volume settings

- Songs about the ABC's, 123's, and nursery rhymes

- The door opens and the players sings "oooppppennn" and then you close it and it sings "Clooossssed"

- Very easy to use - our daughter was able to figure it before she was 6 months old

Final Verdict - One our daughter's favorites it has helped our daughter develop motor skills (putting the CDs into the player - it is amazing how much she enjoys doing this) plus all of the fun music. It makes a perfect present for your favorite young boy or girl.

My son loves this toy. He's 6 months and he just has to smack the thing to get it to make noise/music which makes him happy. He plays with it all by himself.

The raison d'etre of my review, however, is that Fisher Price changed the lyrics to Jack & Jill! Instead of going up the hill to fetch a pail of water, they "go looking for some color" and then they find a yellow sun. WTF!?! Are the PC-nazis dictating changes to nursery rhymes? Falling down the hill was too violent?! All nursery rhymes and stories are violent! Humpty-dumpty, snow white, hansel and gretel to name a few. Ridiculous. I am aghast. Aghast!

Most toys don't capture my son's attention for very long. He was fussing while at Target and I pulled this off the shelf and started pushing the buttons. He grabbed it and wouldn't let go. I tried to put it back and there was a major fit. As soon as you pull out the toy he lights up. One thing I found kind of upsetting is that the "CD's" are kind of useless. He does like putting them in the slot (with a little assistance)

- the voice is very pleasant
- says open and close when you put a cd in the front
- says stuff like let's jam when inserting disc
- teaches ABC's, 1, 2, 3's and a bunch of fun songs

I got this for my daughter not really knowing if she would like it. It is always hit and miss with her. We've purchased some expensive toys that she has glanced at once then walked away- what a waste. This was not the case for this little toy. She loves it. I think there is just so much cause and effect learning in it which is why she is drawn to it. The buttons play different noises each time you hit them with enough of a cycle not to get bored. You can open and close the front and put cd's in 2 different ways. It has gone to the beach with us and we bring it everywhere. She loves it. There are about 6 different songs it plays.

When I bought this I thought the disks might spin or at least pretend to work as CDs but they don't. That being said, my son LOVES this toy. He's 3 years old but has severe developmental disabilities, so most toys are really hard for him to do, this toy has been a huge long term hit. The songs are easy for me to sing along with which he loves to listen to, the slot in the top is nice and challenging for fine motor skills while the opening front slot is easier and allows my son to feel like he's accomplished something when he struggles with the top. Nice size, DURABLE my son throws all of his toys on the ground to hear them crash, this thing has been put through a real beating and still looks brand new. We've had it since Christmas which is impressive considering how easily my son tires of toys. He carries it around and his average developing 3 year old friends love to share it with him.

My 18month old grandson just loves music and this toy is just perfect for him. He walks around with it all day long and the little discs are easy for him to insert into the slots provided. Great toy!

I purchased this radio for my 2 month old son and he loves it. His entire face lights up when it is playing. It's a nice size. It's not too big and stands upright on sturdy "feet" which I find very convenient.

This toy makes tummy time more enjoyable for my baby. I can place it on the floor in front of him and keep it playing without having to hold it up. I find it encourages him to look forward and lift his head and to see the lights. He usually fusses and cries during tummy time, but this has him cooing and smiling.

I think this will be a toy with some longevity, as he will be able to enjoy it even more once he can sit up and hit the buttons himself. I'd definitely recommend this toy.

This was a huge hit for my son at age 1. Definitely his favorite toy and he still plays with it today at age 3.
