This is educational and cute. It teaches shape sorting as well as foods, counting, and greetings. It also sings. There really isn't anything wrong with the toy. The only reason it got 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 is that it's kind of expensive for what you get, which is basically a musical shape sorter. There are so many toys like this out there that you might not want or need to pay the price for this one.

Leapfrog makes a picnic basket toy that offers way more for your money. It comes with 2 cups, plates, and forks so children can play with it together but still offers the shape sorting and other educational things. It is also bigger and has less annoying music. That is the one I prefer.

First off let me say I love Fisher Price laugh and learn toys, which is why I purchased this toy for my daughter. She likes the toy but the handle sometimes get in her way when she is playing with the toy (she is 7 months old). She likes playing with the LeapFrog picnic basket that my niece has better LeapFrog Shapes And Sharing Picnic Basket. This is a really cute toy and a good multi-purpose toy (shape sorter).

My daughter got this as a gift, I wish we would have taken it back and gotten the v-tech picnic basket. For the extra few dollars that one acutely looks fun. My daughter has no interest in this toy at all.

This picnic basket is uplifting and gives activity instuctions. It also gives children the opportunity to identify and place shapes in the correct place. It is portable entertainment, and loads of fun.

My daughter liked the music to this but never really took to it. She was 2 at the time. My 19 month old isn't interested yet either. Seems like a good shape sorter but not really a winner for some reason.

This toy has been growing with my baby as she reaches her toddler years. At first, it was just a pretty thing to look at, then she discovered the lid triggered music. I must admit, the inflection of the singer at the end of the bumble bee song is making me crazy, but it is easily overlooked. The different settings mix things up to keep the child learning, entertained and the parents from burning out on the same sounds over and over. My only complaint was that I had bought most of the Fisher-Price line from this series and had assumed that the shape sorter would work throughout the product line. For instance, the matching tea set is too tall to fall into the basket and become lodged in the holes. It takes a bit of prying to get them loose.

Other than that, I like that each block represents a food, a color and a shape and they are reinforced with the picnic blanket. Truth be told, she plays with the fabric more than the toy sometime!

You might want to take care that the child does not stand on the toy. I have her play area right next to the couch, but it took me a few minutes to see that her small foot had slipped through one of the holes in the basket. It didn't hurt her so she didn't cry out, but it was uncomfortable for her to get it loose again!

This toy gets an A+++ in my book. Doesn't look very exciting but boy did my daughter get use out of this toy. This was by far her favorite most used toy from age 6-12 months straight. That's quite a long time in baby toys time. It took her a few months to learn to open basket so I had helped her. This is definitely where she learned to 'put things back' which is a great skill at this age. She recently at 1 yr began to put the shapes in the shape sorter. This toy really surprised me considering it appeared a little dull when I gave it to her at 6 months. I recently purchased the leap frog basket because it looked more complicated for her and I figured she mastered the picnic basket idea and strangely she pretty much dropped using this one when she got new one but got over the new one in 2 days but never cane back to this one. We just use the parts for food in her play kitchen. Needless to say the transition didn't go as intended but I guess it was time to move on anyway... Hours a day for 6 straight months was a good Run. Hope your kid likes it as much as mine. Worth a shot!
