5.0 out of 5 stars Sustained fun for a toddler!!!
I bought this for my 1 year old nephew and he absolutely loves it!! He is always playing with it and is learning his colors, too! We are teaching him to hit the "blue" one. Hit the "Red" one. Hit the "Yellow" one and he really gives us a big hearty giggle when he gets it right and sees our reaction!! Very fun toy!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good parent and baby time toy.
I actually agree with both previous reviewers. Both were accurate in their assessment of the toy. But with that said, I believe this toy is great for play with parent and child. It's true that it takes too much force to pull, pound or slide anything on this toy for a child. But with a parent helping I think it's lots of fun. I myself, don't think I have every been able to...

It's true that it takes too much force to pull, pound or slide anything on this toy for a child. But with a parent helping I think it's lots of fun. I myself, don't think I have every been able to hit the nails with the hammer and get anything out of them. Instead I just press them and have my son do it as well. Bottom line, if you are looking for a "play alone" toy, this isn't it. If you are looking for a "let's play together" toy, this is worth the money.

This is one of those toys that appears cool, until you get it out of the box. My son is usually entranced by a new toy, but he played with this toolbench about 20 seconds before he went off to find one of his other toys.

None of the functions work well:

1. You're supposed to be able to pull out the ruler to make the inner alphabet spin. Well, what actually happens is the child tries to pull out the ruler, but the whole toolbench slides. It works when you simultaneously hold the toolbench AND pull out the ruler, but how many babies/toddlers are going to do that?
2. The blue slider is the same: you have to hold the bench at the same time you slide it, or it sticks.
3. The "nails" are supposed to be pounded in by the hammer. But it takes too much "oomph" to pound the nails, or even to press them down by hand. My kid is not a weakling, but he couldn't easily depress one.
4. The "counting" function doesn't work really well, because it says the number at the same time you press down the nail, so the "whack" covers up the number sound.
And the alphabet song is the same version as on a lot of other Fisher-Price toys. How many times a day do you want to be hearing the same jazzy version of "ABC"?

I would not buy this toy for my child...get something else instead, or better yet, save the money for college.
