I reviewed this toy the other day and I stated that it didn't have a volume button, well it does, on the back of the toy. When I purchased it I didn't take it out of the box so I didn't see the button on the back. I did return the toy, but after reading other reviews I decided to give it another chance since my 18 month old loved it so much. Well we bought another one and took it out of the box and pulled the tab out and lowered the volume (so much lower in volume) and its great. My son has been playing with it all day and so far no problems with the screen. We purchased blues with the toy and also purchased Dora, Elmo and Barney software. I hope we have no problems with it because it is a really nice toy and My son loves it. I don't see any problems with the brightness of the screen. So Don't forget when you see this toy in the store its on demo mode and turned up on the highest sound. When you get it home take it out if the box, turn it over, pull out the tab and turn down the volume.
UPDATE - It is now January 25th and the toy is still working great! We had a problem with the screen advancing so we changed the batteries and its like new again. Besides that we found something that the toy does that we didn't notice before - try taking out the cartridge and pushing on the music button, it plays about 5 different songs and the lights move along with the music. We found it does this the other day when my little one wanted the cartridge changed, I took it out and he pushed the music button and it started playing a song, so try this! This toys still keeps him busy after a month, he plays with it everyday and loves it - His favorite toy from Christmas!!!!!!!!!!

My daughter just received this toy as a birthday gift. She just turned two. I must say I was going to buy it for her myself but after reading some negative reviews on here I was discouraged. A family member picked it up for her on their own and I must say I'm glad they did.
The screen is nice and bright, the toy does have volume control on the back of it - two settings and then an off - the screen moves when it should - it's clear and you can understand what they are saying. It's true you need to move maybe to another seat if you're on the phone even when it's set at the lower volume but that's something I can live with.
Overall I love this toy and am very pleased that my daughter is enjoying it so much.

I'm not sure what happened to the person who disliked this toy, but my dad (who never buys toys) bought this toy for my 20 month old daughter and she absolutely loves it. Her vocabulary has increased tremendously, she's putting words and pictures together in her mind, and she is now recognizng alot of the characters more. She especially loves the Oscar song, Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Tully. We just purchased the Blues Clues cassette and she is already in love with it. She uses the microphone and tries to sing along. She knows how to push every button and she is not easy on this toy. The durability has been great. My husband and I know Sesame Street backwards and forwards and I'm actually looking forward to Blues Clues. I am desperately trying to find the Barney cassette after my mom bought the Dora cassette. I totally would recommend this toy to any parent with a child with a curious imagination, a love of pushing buttons, and a love of music!!

I just bought this learn with music machine for my one and a half year old and my three and a half year old the other day..It has interchangeable cartridges to purchase ( such as Dora, Blues Clues, etc, etc, etc...)...One cartridge comes with the machine and it has 15 interactive and very educational slide shows and games for the kids to play with it..If you touch the screen it will sound out the letter and name the letter and the object that you touch and will tell you the letter it begins with ( this one is the Elmo one that we have)...The machine also has a microphone on the side for them to sing along with the characters and songs that it plays..My one and a half year old is already singing her alphabet and my three year old loves this machine just as much because it has all her favorite characters and also sings...Very educational toy..I love it myself!!! Would recommend to anyone...You can't go wrong with this toy!!!

I bought this toy primarily for my 19 month old but also for my 3 1/2 year old to use too! Unfortunately the screen was never as 'bright' as the one pictured on the box or on the commerical. Once you put the cartridge in the picture is darker or more dull than out of the machine. It was hard to see and the reflective light screen behind it made it worse. Both my children loved the songs, etc. though I found it quite loud with no volume control. I called Fisher Price and they assured me that display color was correct but because it was so hard to see the pictures I returned the toy as well as two additional cartridges. If they could improve the brightness and add a volume control it would be a great toy!

I was almost unable to find this item-amazon had sold out and so had our local retailers. On Christmas eve, I found one somehow on the shelf with Barney. I hate Barney, but knew from visits to the store demo, my 2 year old had to have it. I was pleasantly surprised-she not only loved the Barney one, but has memorized pletny of songs. I was able to accquire Dora the day after Christmas-her favorite character-and now we have to alternate!! It has great lights and things to do-it is touch sensitive, keeps them occupied for hours!! I would definately reccomend-there is a volume control. I would suggest tho, that you get two different software packs so you don't go insane listening to one or the other!!

My son loves this toy...the music, characters,etc. BUT he gets soooo frustrated at the touch screen...at this age it is hard to make sure you touch only ONE SMALL item on this small screen, his wrist hits something before his finger does and changes the whole game....Very Frustrating to him and me. It is like typing on a keyboard...your hand and wrist stay horizontal with the keyboard not fingers vertical to the keyboard. NO volume control makes this baby LOUD, gives me a headache. For this much money I believe there should be these extras.

My 17 month old son loved this toy from the start, the music and the lights. I like the changeable software. About a week after we got it some of the lights stoped working, then the microphone started shorting out. Yesterday the whole thing stopped working. This toy is a little expensive and so is the changeable software, i had hoped it would last longer. I took the toy back to the store, they where out of them so I had to get a refund. It is really too bad necause my son loved this toy

This is the biggest waste of money I have spent since we had our 17 month old! The microphone does not work after the first day, and the cartriges don't advance properly...So my son is learning about the color yellow as Joe from Blue's Clues speaks, but my son is looking at the "BLUE" page!

I am truly disappointed, and I would not recommend to anyone this toy.

It is a wonderful concept, and very easy for a little one to use...But you would think Fisher Price would have done a little more durability testing with it BEFORE they put it on the market!

This toy has been a lifesaver on many a long road trip. My 2 1/2 year old will play with it for hours. There are so many great learning activities on each cartridge, and it sort of "grows" with him as he learns to do more of them as he gets older. His microphone no longer works consistently (I think Fisher-Price should have taken into consideration that a toy for 18mts & up might be carried around by the mic), but that is the only problem we've had. Also, it would be nice to have more than two volume levels. But it's such a great value for the money, and there are a variety of really neat cartridges available.
