Couldn't drag my 2 year old away from it, November 17, 2003

We just came home from a visit to Toys R Us, where my 2 year old son spotted this, and LOVED it. In fact, he liked it so much, and was having such a great time playing with it that the grandparents of another child bought one on the spot for their 2 year old grandson for Christmas. There are 4 cartridges you can buy (but we only saw 3) that stress different learning themes. Blues Clues was about colors, Sesame Street was alphabet, and Dora was object recognition/naming. There's supposed to be a Barney one that talks about feelings, but they didn't have it. The toy uses lights and music, and has a microphone that you can use to sing along. As far as durability, I put 3 stars simply because the form required it, but I cannot really say, as I don't have one in use yet, although, it seemed pretty sturdy. This toy will be under our tree this season!

Thankfully ours has volume control!, April 12, 2004

I bought this in the store in April 2004. I'm so thankful that ours does have a volume control otherwise I'd have gone insane with the louder volume option. I bought the last Blues Clues model and they only had Barney and Sesame Street left. I'd just wish I knew there was a Dora model out there, other wise I'd have ordered it online and got that one. So far it seems to be working great. I bought this for my 18 month old but my 4 and 10 year olds are going nuts wanting to play with it as well. It's not only helping my 18 month old to learn about colors, etc but it's helping to reinforce those ideas with my 4 year old. I prefer toys like this that are good for different age groups. (...)I think it's the familar characters that attracted my 18 month old to begin with. The familiar songs help her to stay interested and learn. She spent the whole time yelling "a clue, a clue" in the microphone, as she spotted them on the pages. The only downside is that the microphone seems to be on the louder volume. So the music is lower but when they use the microphone, it's really loud. I just hope that the newer models not only have the volume control but have the other glitches fixed as well (the sticky pages and easily breakable microphone), that I read about here. Just the same, I'm going to save my receipt, just in case! I really hope it doesn't break since this is the first toy I've come across in a while that all my children can use and enjoy using at the same time.

A favorite Christmas present!, January 2, 2004

Santa bought this toy for our son for Christmas. He is 18-months old and LOVES playing with it! He loves pushing the buttons and dances along to the songs. I love the fact that it is an educational toy with a bonus of music and fun! We have the Blue's Clues book that came with it, and purchased the Elmo's Scavenger Hunt book too. I really like the Elmo book because it goes through the ABC's and phonics. My husband also loves this toy, but more because he can shout in the microphone and be heard all over the house (sigh). I personally like the fact that even when there is no book in the toy it will still play music if the buttons are pushed. On the down side, I have to agree with one of the other reviews that the lights are a bit on the bright side and can distort the images on the screen. All in all though I think this is a great toy that will get a lot of use as my son gets older!
