3.0 out of 5 stars Major Disappointment
My son received this on Christmas and three days later the microphone already stopped working. My son was very upset. He loved singing along. I would not recommend this toy to anyone until Fisher Price fixes the flaws. I usually love Fisher Price but this toy really let me and my son down!

We just came home from a visit to Toys R Us, where my 2 year old son spotted this, and LOVED it. In fact, he liked it so much, and was having such a great time playing with it that the grandparents of another child bought one on the spot for their 2 year old grandson for Christmas. There are 4 cartridges you can buy (but we only saw 3) that stress different learning themes. Blues Clues was about colors, Sesame Street was alphabet, and Dora was object recognition/naming. There's supposed to be a Barney one that talks about feelings, but they didn't have it. The toy uses lights and music, and has a microphone that you can use to sing along. As far as durability, I put 3 stars simply because the form required it, but I cannot really say, as I don't have one in use yet, although, it seemed pretty sturdy. This toy will be under our tree this season!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thankfully ours has volume control!, April 12, 2004
By A Customer

I bought this in the store in April 2004. I'm so thankful that ours does have a volume control otherwise I'd have gone insane with the louder volume option. I bought the last Blues Clues model and they only had Barney and Sesame Street left. I'd just wish I knew there was a Dora model out there, other wise I'd have ordered it online and got that one.
So far it seems to be working great. I bought this for my 18 month old but my 4 and 10 year olds are going nuts wanting to play with it as well. It's not only helping my 18 month old to learn about colors, etc but it's helping to reinforce those ideas with my 4 year old. I prefer toys like this that are good for different age groups.
(...)I think it's the familar characters that attracted my 18 month old to begin with. The familiar songs help her to stay interested and learn. She spent the whole time yelling "a clue, a clue" in the microphone, as she spotted them on the pages. The only downside is that the microphone seems to be on the louder volume. So the music is lower but when they use the microphone, it's really loud.
I just hope that the newer models not only have the volume control but have the other glitches fixed as well (the sticky pages and easily breakable microphone), that I read about here. Just the same, I'm going to save my receipt, just in case! I really hope it doesn't break since this is the first toy I've come across in a while that all my children can use and enjoy using at the same time.

Santa bought this toy for our son for Christmas. He is 18-months old and LOVES playing with it! He loves pushing the buttons and dances along to the songs. I love the fact that it is an educational toy with a bonus of music and fun! We have the Blue's Clues book that came with it, and purchased the Elmo's Scavenger Hunt book too. I really like the Elmo book because it goes through the ABC's and phonics. My husband also loves this toy, but more because he can shout in the microphone and be heard all over the house (sigh). I personally like the fact that even when there is no book in the toy it will still play music if the buttons are pushed. On the down side, I have to agree with one of the other reviews that the lights are a bit on the bright side and can distort the images on the screen. All in all though I think this is a great toy that will get a lot of use as my son gets older!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good toy but quits working with normal use, September 5, 2004

I bought this for my now 2 year old daughter. Both the 2 year old and her sister love it.The only problem is that within a week of frequent use, the sensor and motor stopped working. The software seems to work fine, but the book no longer scrolls at all and it's basically stuck on page 1. I purchased another cartridge (the Elmo one), which they liked a lot too and it doesn't work in the toy either. I read that a few other people have had this problem. Now we're stuck with a toy that doesn't work. I should have heeded the reviews and found another toy. It's a shame that there are some bugs with this toy, I really like it and the idea behind it. My older daughter was singing the songs by day 2. By day 7, it quit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Generally a great toy!, December 30, 2003

My almost 3 yr old loves this toy, she saw it in Target and I had to drag her away crying. It went straight to the top of her Christmas list and Santa honored her request. She loves it, likes to change the cartridges and I think it's generally a wonderful toy. She loves to press the arrows and make the pictures move back and forth. My only complaint is about the lights in the screen. They are very bright and when they shine through the screen, it's hard to see the pictures on the screen. They are somewhat distracting. And if you are in a dimly-lit room, it's even harder to see what you are looking at because the lights are that much brighter. Overall, the lights are not a big deal and don't seem to take away from the educational and entertainment value. It certainly doesn't bother my daughter! The Microphone was a big hit, especially since her big sister got a karaoke player, so the little one mimics the bigger one with her own microphone. (Oh and the cord on the microphone is very short, although I'm sure this has to do with safety issues). It's worth the purchase. I gave it a 4 on the durability because it's so new to us, I can't judge.

My son is two, and I bought this toy for him two months ago. He has not put it down since. He plays with it every day, and it goes every where with us. It travels easy and keeps my son occupied on long trips in the car. It was worth every penny I spent on it.

My son is 2 and just got interested in this toy..however I had to exchange mine because like others..the pages started to get stuck. But I was happy to exchange it at toys r us (with no reciept or box) for another one because the new version has a volume control! The toy is exactly the same but the volume control makes it sooooo much better!

My 18mo. daughter received this and all the cartridges(including Barney, which is hard to find) for Christmas. She absolutely loves it. It teaches the names of animals and their sounds, shapes, colors, blue clue game, dora game, all the popular songs and characters, easy to touch screen. I highly recommend this to any parent with an 18mo. child who loves any of the popular shows. The only complaint I have with this toy is that there is no volume control. It is very loud. Otherwise, it's a "must" own toy. The cartridges are easy to snap into place but, obviously an adult has to help if a child is less than 2 years old.

This one of the greatest toys ever! We bought this when my daughter was about 18 months old and I bought all the cartridges that go with it so she never gets tired of it. We play with it at home and in the car. It fits perfectly in my daughters lap in the car and it keeps her busy for hours as she scrolls through the screens and sings on the karaoke microphone. The only negative is the lights behind the screen are just too bright for the unlit screen and it takes away from the picture. My sister-in-law bought it for her daughter and called to ask me if hers was broken or something because the screen didn't light up-just those blinking lights behind it!!?!!! This is only a problem in a poorly lit room or in the dark. Overall a great toy when played with in enough light to see the screen.

I got this toy for my son for Xmas and am fairly disappointed in it (enough so to call Mattel to complain). The screen is definitely dim, which detracts from the learning value, especially for the learning colors cartridge (Blues Clues). The one I received was also before they had the volume control so very LOUD. Fortunately, no mechanical problems have emerged yet. Despite the dim screen, my son (now 22 months) still likes the toy a lot, but it could be SO much better if screen were backlit (in addition to the orange lights). Clearly Matter-FP was in a hurry to get this out for Xmas and didn't test market it enough. Shame on them! I buy a lot of Fisher Price toys but will be hesitant to buy the higher priced ones in the future (at least through the Internet where I can't test them out first). I see this toy advertised on TV now and the screen appears much brighter than mine so maybe this problem has been fixed (in the same way as they added a volume control???) Hope so.
