What a fantastic idea this is!! Reading to our four year old is very important, and we don't always have the time, so this product enables her to be read to, interact with the story and its characters, and to play games. The system was very easy for her to learn; in fact, she's teaching her friends when they come over. I can't wait until more stories come out!

I was skeptical at first and I am so happy that I got this for my kids. I homeschool my children and needed something to keep one of the kids busy while I was working with another. This is easy to use, fun to play and I like the stories that are available. I think you get a great product for a great price.

I have a preschooler who loves being read to; however, as a busy Mom, I cannot always be there to read to her. This is the perfect toy to help me fulfill her love of reading. Classic children's books are actually read to my daughter on my TV screen and the remote control is even easy for my daughter to use. As a Mom, I can interact by turning the narrator button off and reading the story to my daughter. I have found it is a great way to encourage the love of reading in my child because the story is larger then life as it plays out on my television screen. Everyone should try it. Happy reading!!!!

I've bought all the "Learning" toys that you can think of...but, to me...the best by far is Read with Me DVD! My kids can be read to whenever they like (unfortunately, I'm not always available). But, there's even a mode that lets us turn the pages on the screen and read the stories ourselves. This is also the easiest remote control for my kids (and me) to use that I've seen. Enjoy!

My son got this for a birthday present. I about threw it out the door programming it but I didn't. I am so glad I called Fisher Price first. they were so helpful on the phone. My son loves it.When you get this program it alone and then give it to the child. Just in case it takes a long time. My son is very picky about the books that I read to him, I loved curious George when I was growing up, he would let me even show him pictures. Now he does because he saw it on the read with me books. It is great!

I have seen numerous reviews of people having trouble with programming this. First, make sure you don't accidentally press the on button right before trying to program it. If so, either put the cover plate back on and press the button again (then try or remove the batteries and reinsert. Make sure the button on the bottom stays on the number of the dvd player you are programming as you can use up to 3 players. Skipping issues are usually due to dirty/scratched disks, so handle them like any other dvd (carefully). I had an issue with accidentally hitting the on button, but it took one minute to fix. The programming took 5 minutes and it worked perfectly. My son loves this. He was already starting to read and this has excited him even more (especially since I got a lot of other stories including his favorite "Green Eggs and Ham"). Some disks have better games than others. He likes the games as much as the stories and reading. The words 'color up' as they are read, helping new readers see what word is being spoken. But it is fast (normal speed), so don't expect otherwise. There are also reading comprehension questions in one mode. They see if the user was paying attention to the story. Overall this is a great toy/learning aid. I hope scholastic continues to come out with more great stories. It's the stories that are available that will make this worthwhile or not longer term as there is a limited current library.

When I saw this toy advertised on TV and then looked it up on the internet I was very impressed and rushed out to buy it... but I was VERY disappointed. I will admit that I like that is has all the classic stories that I remember from when I was a kid and it is easy to use but there is way too little to the game. It has four play options, the first being that it will just read the story, which I am a stay at home mom so I don't need a DVD to read to my daughter I can do that myself. The second option is for the child to read the story themselves, which again if your child knows how to read they can do it from a book and don't need the DVD. The third option is Read and Play, this was the function I was really interested in. But it turns out that there are ONLY 4 questions per DVD. I was amazed!! How much is your child really going to learn from JUST 4 questions. The last option is Story Games... these vary per DVD depending on what the story is about and there are once again ONLY 2 games. They could be a version of the classic game Memory, putting the story in order, identifying letters, etc. Those aren't too bad but I have found that with some of the games, like the Memory game, you have to time pushing the buttons at just the right time as the DVD loads your answers or you will get it wrong even if you pushed the right order of buttons. I even had a problem getting the timing right when I was showing my daughter how it worked. Overall I was very very upset over how little there was to do on the DVDs... 4 questions and 2 games, my daughter got bored with each disk within 20 minutes. If I could I would return the game and get my money back!!

I disagree with the other reviews. I think the 'read to me' part of the system is great; however, the games are terrible. Not because of the content, but because the controls are extremly slow to respond. Half the time it does not acknowledge the correct answer, and says it is wrong, but we know we are selecting the correct answer. Maybe it is my DVD player, but I don't think so. I also wish the stories could be a little bit longer, or perhaps they could put multiple stories on a disk. Anyway the system is great for reading the stories to the children, but the games are lacking in functionality.
