This durable toy is my son's favorite,

My son got this airport as a gift at 20 months and 6 weeks later, it is still his favorite toy. We have several F-P little people playsets and like to use them with this airport.Unlike some other reviewers here, we are VERY glad that it did not come with any battery-hungry and annoying lights and sounds to irritate mommy & daddy's nerves. It's getting harder and harder to find toys these days where the only noise comes from the children themselves. The playset was easy to assemble and comes apart for storage. The only negatives I've seen are that the windsock and umbrella are easily removed (and lost), but all in all, this set gives our son quite a bit of self-play and helps him develop his imagination. Where else but here can you see a Fisher-Price sheep pilot a passenger jet?

Some Confusion??,

From reading the prior reviews, I think there is some confusion surrounding exactly what this toy is and isn't. First off, it IS a Toys R us exclusive. It does NOT, however, have flashing runway lights or make sounds activated by the vehicles. I think the cause of confusion is that this new TRU version looks EXACTLY like the old Discovery Airport, but is not battery operated. I was not at all disappointed when I received this, though. From what I've read about Discovery Airport, parents constantly complained that the sounds never worked properly. (Perhaps the reason it was discontinued???) And Discovery Airport was very expensive; it was priced as high as [$$$] in the Fisher Price store! This new airport is certainly a less costly alternative. My only issue with the toy is that if it includes pilots for the planes, why not a driver for the taxi?

I have the discovery version of this and found it strange that they changed it until I remembered a few things about my 2 year old's toy. First off, let me say the airport can be fun without the sounds and lights, which can be turned off on the one we have, basically turning it into this new model. (My son doesn't always turn it on to play with it). This newer one looks exactly like the older version minus one baggage car and no real landing lights on the runway. When we got it, we thought is was so cute and amazing at how the cars, plane, and helicopter would make noise just by rolling near it. but as time went on, I sometimes found the sounds annoying and it would malfunction occasionaly. It has an on/off switch on the bottom, but if you leave it in the on position, it can be turned on with the X landing mark on top of the control tower (for kids to do it). And then over a few minutes will go into a sleep mode. Ok, that was great, but after awhile it wouldn't turn on and i'd have to flip it over and manually turn it on and off and on again to get it to work. This actually started just months after getting it. And now the vehicles don't always make the sounds when rolled over the landing strip and road. My son gets very frustrated sometimes. So I can only guess that they were having some problems and complaints about the discovery sounds version. Hope this helps anyone out there who's disappointed that they can't find the first one.

My mom bought this for my son for his 3rd birthday. He absolutely loves it. The only thing I wasn't thrilled about was that it does not make any sounds at all and only comes with 3 vehicles. One taxi, one helicopter and one airplane. I thought it should've come with a couple of planes. All in all, my son is happy with it. He also has fun putting it to use with his other little people vehicles. As always, fisher price has created another durable toy.

You will be very disappointed with this newer version of the beloved Little People DISCOVERY AIRPORT. The previous version had lights and sound -- the reason why we love the Little People sets! This version (Little People Airport) has none of the perks that make the children love their toy. Took this verson back and bought the discontinued DISCOVERY Airport from eBAY! We are all much happier now, and the children have not stopped playing with it since!

My 20-month-old son loves this toy! He often begs "airport airport airport" until we go play with it. He really likes driving the 4 vehicles around and playing with the luggage carousel. The vehicle sounds do not always activate perfectly, but this has not been too frustrating for us so far. I think the toy is very clever, with many cool features for kids to discover. And I don't find it too annoying for a toy with sounds and lights. If I have one beef, I'd say that I wish it came with more than 3 little people. Overall it's a great toy.

I bought this toy for my son because my friend's son has it (or what I thought was it) and he just loved it. I am in the airline industry and thought it would be a fun addition to his other Little People sets. I was unaware that Fisher Price had discontinued the "Little People Discovery Airport" and had replaced it with a much less expensive "Little People Airport" which does not take any batteries, so therefore, makes no noise whatsoever. Unknowingly, I bought it as it looks EXACTLY like the battery operated version. I brought it home and my son was so excited upon seeing the box because he had remembered it from my friend's house. We unpacked it and set it all up. He played with it for about two minutes, he was bored with it. It doesn't do anything at all, just sits there and takes up tons of space. I'm not sure why Fisher Price would take all of the best features of a toy and take them away. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

My boys are so ROUGH on toys! Toys like Hot Wheels tracks and other car sets are broken within days. But my three year old just loves this set, and it has been sat on, stepped on, and dropped and it is still in great shape! Very durable, and the cars and planes are great fun to play with. I don't think every toy needs lights and sounds to be fun...actually I'm getting rather tired of the highly computerized toys these days. I recommend the Little People sets highly!

My youngest son just got this for his 2nd birthday - though we got the version with the sounds and lights (picked it up on clearance at a discount store, I didn't realize it was so hard to find until reading these reviews). My older kids (3 and 5) love the sounds and lights, but my 2 year old would play with it just as much without them - he often doesn't bother to turn it on (get it out of "sleep" mode) and still has just as much fun. The vehicles are fun to play with and he loves to touch and move all the little parts (spin the umbrella, open the "x-ray" machine, turn the baggage holder, etc). It's been the most popular of all the toys he got for his birthday - even with the older kids. I personally like the idea of getting rid of the sounds and lights and making the toy slightly cheaper. I often take batteries out of my kids toys anyway because the noise gets to be too annoying. We love this airport!

Was very upset that this did not have any sound - have purchased the Little People House, Farm, etc and my twins just love all the sounds but this was very disappointing and after setting it up I decided to take it back - it just didn't hold their attention.
