I was eagerly awaiting the release of this toy, as it looked so very much like the one I had as a child. Alas, it's a far cry from the original. The barn is only about half the size of the original, and due to the "lunchbox design" is nothing more than a storage container for the other pieces. There's no play loft, no opening doors, nothing inside except bare tin. And as for those other pieces? Fisher-Price cheaped out there as well. The items in the picture are ALL you get -- no horse, no pig, no hen, no rooster, limited fencing, and no silo. By the way, the farmer running this incredibly small operation is solo. I guess that two animals don't exactly require the assistance of the farm family the original included.

After doing a quick double-take at this lauded piece of junk, my husband and I chose to leave it on the shelf. Perhaps the collectors will appreciate it, but it offers little to hold the interest of a real, live child.

This toy is nothing like the real one we had growing up. I wanted to get one for my little girl, but without the barn door that moo's when you open it, what is the point. Just get a real one off of ebay.

This is a lunchbox.

This was a gift for my 2 year old's 2nd birthday. It was one of those oh I'll get that it's on sale gift. Well she plays with it every day. It is simple and fun. She likes to put everything inside the barn and carry it around. And the best is that everything fits in when she does it so there is no screaming that the lid won't close because you have to put the part back in a certin way. Toss them in & go. Even my 5 year old likes it.

I wish I had bought the other 2 50th anniversary little people when they were on sale as well since this one has been such a big hit.

For those of you wistfully longing for the Little People Barn of your youth, complete with loft, silo, and funny moo sounds, it's here:
[...]

Seriously, did you think you were gonna get the big barn for under $20? The AIRPLANE costs more than that, for Pete's sake!

Now that we've gotten THAT out of the way, THIS product is the Little People Play 'N' Go Farm - part of Fisher Price's series of Little People travel sets that come with their own carrying cases that match the toy's theme - barn, school, house, etc.

There aren't a lot of frills with this product; a farmer, a couple of animals, a few accessories, and the lunch-box style case. But it's about what I'd expect for the price, and it's great for taking along on vacations and trips to the grandparents' houses.

I picked this up at Costco on a whim as a Hanukkah gift for my 15mo son. And he loves this toy -- it has become his favorite. He carries the tin everywhere we go. He likes putting the farmer and his wife, as well as the dog and cat on the tractor and driving them around. He isn't much into the fencing yet but also plays with the cow and the sheep, especially the sheep. Just goes to show that what a kid finds interesting isn't necessarily what an adult will. I thought he'd like the cow better since it is more realistic than the sheep and the head moves, but he really likes the simple little sheep.

It's been wonderful for me as well, because if we get stuck somewhere he has a toy to play with that keeps him entertained, but all fits back into the tin when it's time to leave. He already said dog and cat before we got this, but now he says barn, sheep, moo (he won't say cow!) and tractor.

So, I think this is a great toy for a 1-2 year old. Older children would probably get bored with it quickly. And yes, it isn't the same Fisher-Price farm I had as a kid, but my son doesn't know that. It's a toy for him, not me, and he loves it.

I wanted to add my review to inform parents and grandparents alike that this toy is essentially a lunchbox. At $[...] it is pricey, I don't think my son's grandparents paid that for it last year for his 1st birthday. I am also not entirely sure why it is rated for 3 and over as the set we have doesn't have any small parts for choking risk. My son liked the box/tote the best and would round up other toys and pile everything in together. As for the animal(s) he enjoys the large "life-like" animals available from Michaels's or Hobbytown versus the oddly shaped cow and horse. Great for a farm tote box!

Sure it's not exactly the same as the original, but who cares! Is the toy for the child or the parents? Our son LOVES his Play 'n Go farm so much that I've bought 3 more to give as birthday gifts. He received this as a 1st birthday present and plays with it all the time. Perfect for packing up and taking with him. Sometimes he just likes to walk around the house with it. Nothing is the same as it once was, but as a toy for our child today, this is great! And as far as the original, I didn't even remember that it mooed or any other specifics! This is a great first birthday present.

If you are looking for the Fisher Price farm of your childhood this one is not it. I ordered it because it was advertised as the 50th Anniversary model. It is cute and will make my niece happy, but it is not really the old school model. The barn doors do not open to reveal the inside of the barn. There are not as many accessories with it. No farmers wife and only a couple of animals. I have been unable to locate other fisher price farm animals to supplement it. However that said, it is a nice toy and it is easy to carry around and will offer fun playtime. The price is good.
