5.0 out of 5 stars This toy is Built to Beat on!
I purchased this for my daughter after my husband saw it in a store (he's a musician) and my daughter was thrilled with it immediately (5.5 months old then.) She "got it" right away and never seems to tire of it. I was pleased with the sturdy construction and the dual volumes. I like that it plays both scats, and each instrument individually. It's bright, colorful,...

I thought this would be a great toy, I mean, a drum set for a baby. But this just isn't a drum set, it is a badly designed hard plastic toy that makes noise. And half the time it doesn't even make drum like sounds but sings for you. Or yells at you. I mean, hit that plastic drum and half the time it will sing for you "babadoo ba ba ba". Common. Common. That is just simply dumb. If there had been a button for the toy so that it only made drum sound in mode one and did this stupid singing/yelling in the mode two I might have liked it a little better. Or make more parts that do the yelling if you so wish. But the "beebeede beebabooo Yeahh" is even irritating to my seven month old. This could so easily have been a great toy. I thought more highly of Fisher Price than this. Slight modifications on the sound would have made it nicer and make some of the hard plastic soft (for my teething 7 month old). And why not have more parts that move and rattle to make sounds on their own, what is wrong with that? As is it is not a very nice toy. I was so disappointed!

It's bright, colorful, and I love that all the pieces have smiling faces, as babies really identify and enjoy faces on EVERYTHING. This was well worth the money and I have recommended it to many other mom's in my online groups. It's a great toy!

UPDATE: My daughter is now 15 months old and still plays with this toy. I just wanted to add that it is still going strong and holds her interest.

Got this as a gift for my daughter this past Christmas. I know, I know, if it's enjoyable for baby it shouldn't matter to dad, but I was hoping that there would be more musical features with this toy (I have to agree with reviewer Sigrun Hreinsdottir, the scatting "biddabeebopbopboo" is a tad irritating) and my daughter only plays with it sporadically, it doesn't really hold her interest. If there's one toy I would recommend it would be the LeapFrog Learn & Groove Musical Table, I got this for her last Christmas and she STILL enjoys playing with it (I'll be writing a separate review for that, but let me say beforehand that I do highly recommend it). In all fairness to this product, my nephews seem to enjoy it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't actually have symbols, December 15, 2010

I was intrigued by the manufacturer's description, which says this toy has "symbols." It seemed like an odd feature for a toddler's drum set to have, but I wanted to see this for myself. On seeing the toy firsthand, I was perplexed and puzzled. Couldn't find the symbols. I even took it apart and looked inside. No symbols anywhere. It does have cymbals, however.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Cause-and-Effect Tool, and Baby Loves It, July 24, 2009
A Kid's Review

My son received this when he was born. Once he was about 6 months old, this became his favorite toy. I like that he has to do certain things to get each specific sound, it really does help him understand cause and effect. For instance, when he finally found the "song" "button," he was ecstatic. What is nice though, is he does have to find it, which at first was a challenge, and whenever he did manage it, he'd be so proud he would look up and grin from ear to ear. That was when he was 6 months old. Now he's 10 months old, and very good at finding the sounds he wants. I do agree with the negative review about the sounds being obnoxious. They are. However, my son really enjoys them, so I'll let it go. But literally this morning, my nanny and I were commiserating about the stupid baby songs we get stuck in our heads, and hers was the ba-ba-do-ba-ba-bah from this, so bear that in mind. But it is much better than some noise-making toys (like the fisher price bongo drum-set, DON'T buy that) that just go on and on without your baby having to do hardly anything to elicit the response. This and the fisher price piano are the best electronic toys we have, and the only ones we kept. The others seem to be geared at distracting the kids (which they do admirably), without making them do anything, very similar really to TV, when you think about it.

My son loves this toy. He loves to make noise and this toy responds with talking and music when he plays with it. It's durable and very well made.

We got this for my niece because my brother is a drummer. After she opened it, both she and my daughter played with it and loved it. All the little parts are on springs, so when pulled they bounce around and make fun drum/music sounds. There are some drum songs and a bit of "singing," but I didn't find it obnoxious like some toys. It also lights up to the music, which is a definite attention grabber. All-in-all I think this is a great toy. I was so happy to find it!

I got this for my baby for Christmas and paid $7.00 on sale. I liked the toy. I thought it was really cute. I wouldn't want to pay over $15.00 for it though because there's not a whole lot to it. But it is a cute toy.
