There is nothing wrong with this monitor and it is probably one of the best values available today. Some things to note regarding this monitor:
* The transmitter (baby unit) does not accept batteries. This fact negates the complaints made about the parent unit not automatically switching to battery power in the event of a power failure because even if it did the baby unit will not transmit. Unless the complaint was trying to express a desire for the parent unit to make a lot of static noise to alert you that there was a power failure.
* The batteries are not easily changed in the parent unit - requires a phillips head screwdriver. Most parents should be familiar with this as any child toy that requires a battery will have the battery housing screwed shut.
* The parent unit does not charge the batteries when not in use. You can use rechargeable batteries, but you will have to remove them to charge them in your own charging unit.
* This unit operates at 900 MHz - so if you have an older cordless phone operating at 900MHz as well you may get excess noise - this is not a product defect, just the reality of using multiple items on the same frequency. Also, do not automatically assume that a 2.4GHz model will work better as most home wireless routers and wireless access points operate at 2.4GHz as well as many of the new cordless phones. You need to assess your wireless environment to best determine the product transmit frequency you need or be willing to move the monitor or transmitter around until you find something that works.
If you want a monitor with rechargeable batteries in the parent unit expect to pay about $30 more for the product. A couple of options to consider are the Fisher-Price Private Connection Monitor
Fisher-Price Private Connection Monitor in White and the First Years Crisp & Clear Monitor
Crisp & Clear Plus Rechargeable 900MHz Monitor.
Last, from reading reviews of this and other monitors it appears the dual function on/off volume controls are prone to fail and cannot be repaired. This is most unfortunate as it gets a fair amount of use.
