Product Description

Amazon.com

Nervous, first-time parents will appreciate the extreme sensitivity of the Sound ‘n Lights monitor. This single-receiver monitor provides two ways to check on what baby is up to in her crib. The sound is clear as a bell so parents can hear even the slightest noises, such as baby’s breathing or rolling over in her crib, and cries come through loud and strong. As a secondary measure, the receiver also features a light display to keep tabs on baby. A single arc of light on the display suggests that baby is quiet or asleep while a swift climb to four arcs means that baby is most likely making a lot of noise. This light feature is a blessing for parents whose babies cry themselves to sleep as parents can "see" if their child is quieting down without having to listen to agonizing screams. Further features include a power indicator light on the base, a volume control, two channels to reduce interference, and the option of using the AC adapter or three "AA" batteries (not included) for power. Fisher-Price covers this 900-MHz unit under a one-year limited warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

Product Description

A restage of the very successful 49 Mhz Sounds 'n Lights monitor. The Sounds 'n Lights restage delivers superior communication to mom of baby's call with a dramatic new "Radial" light display. The light display replaces the current single LEDs with concentric semi-circles of light that have a bolder, more visible glow so Mom can "see" her baby's call more clearly and from a greater distance. A fresh new contemporary housing design for both the transmitters and receiver further refreshes the monitor. Internal features of the monitor will remain the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars From Experience - Great Monitor, March 30, 2004
This review is from: Fisher-Price: 49 MHz Sounds 'n Lights Monitor (Baby Product)
I have an electrical background and know why previous reviewers may have had trouble. The problem lies with the location of the receiver/transmitter not with the actual receivers/transmitters themselves.

When we first purchased this monitor we set up the transmitter upstairs in the baby's room and one down stairs and one next door in the master bedroom. When we first setup the downstairs receiver it had horrible static. Because I have work with radios and electronics I knew that that location had more electromagnetic interference than other areas in the room. The frequency range that these monitors use is easily susceptible to interference.

In conclusion, this monitor is fabulous (I'm sure other brands are as well). It just takes some trial and error to find a spot where the receiver will get good reception without much interference. Remember walls, furniture, and all appliances (anything that uses electricity) can inhibit the signal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor for a great price., March 1, 2005
This review is from: Fisher-Price: 49 MHz Sounds 'n Lights Monitor (Baby Product)
I purchased this monitor after my safety 1st monitor stopped working (after using it since 2000). This monitor does the job that it's suppose to do. I love the light feature better than anything else. It let's me know if my baby is crying without having to turn the volume up all the way. That's a great feature to have. I have not had a static problem and haven't had to switch the channels very often.

1.0 out of 5 stars Constant Buzzing and Static - Difficult to Hear Baby, February 5, 2004
By
This review is from: Fisher-Price: 49 MHz Sounds 'n Lights Monitor (Baby Product)
I agree with the above review. We've had this monitor for a year and a half and it's terrible. It always seemed a little noisy but it got increasingly worse as time went on. The buzzing and static got so bad that we could not longer use it in our bedroom because it would keep us up. Luckily by that point my son was sleeping through the night so we could turn t off. Also, we could only use it unplugged for the first month because after that the batteries would drain out really quickly. Then you couldn't tell when the monitor was working or not because there was always just enough battery power to keep the "on" light working - but no sound would come through which meant you couldn't hear the baby. Ugh! The only reason we've had it so long is because we got past the point we couldn't return it and I'm too cheap to go out and buy another. We'll deffinitely buy a different brand with the next baby.
