5.0 out of 5 stars From Experience - Great Monitor

1.0 out of 5 stars Constant Buzzing and Static - Difficult to Hear Baby
I agree with the above review. We've had this monitor for a year and a half and it's terrible. It always seemed a little noisy but it got increasingly worse as time went on. The buzzing and static got so bad that we could not longer use it in our bedroom because it would keep us up. Luckily by that point my son was sleeping through the night so we could turn t off...

5.0 out of 5 stars From Experience - Great Monitor, March 30, 2004
This review is from: Fisher-Price: 49 MHz Sounds 'n Lights Monitor (Baby Product)
I have an electrical background and know why previous reviewers may have had trouble. The problem lies with the location of the receiver/transmitter not with the actual receivers/transmitters themselves.

When we first purchased this monitor we set up the transmitter upstairs in the baby's room and one down stairs and one next door in the master bedroom. When we first setup the downstairs receiver it had horrible static. Because I have work with radios and electronics I knew that that location had more electromagnetic interference than other areas in the room. The frequency range that these monitors use is easily susceptible to interference.

In conclusion, this monitor is fabulous (I'm sure other brands are as well). It just takes some trial and error to find a spot where the receiver will get good reception without much interference. Remember walls, furniture, and all appliances (anything that uses electricity) can inhibit the signal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor for a great price., March 1, 2005
This review is from: Fisher-Price: 49 MHz Sounds 'n Lights Monitor (Baby Product)
I purchased this monitor after my safety 1st monitor stopped working (after using it since 2000). This monitor does the job that it's suppose to do. I love the light feature better than anything else. It let's me know if my baby is crying without having to turn the volume up all the way. That's a great feature to have. I have not had a static problem and haven't had to switch the channels very often.

I agree with the above review. We've had this monitor for a year and a half and it's terrible. It always seemed a little noisy but it got increasingly worse as time went on. The buzzing and static got so bad that we could not longer use it in our bedroom because it would keep us up. Luckily by that point my son was sleeping through the night so we could turn t off. Also, we could only use it unplugged for the first month because after that the batteries would drain out really quickly. Then you couldn't tell when the monitor was working or not because there was always just enough battery power to keep the "on" light working - but no sound would come through which meant you couldn't hear the baby. Ugh! The only reason we've had it so long is because we got past the point we couldn't return it and I'm too cheap to go out and buy another. We'll deffinitely buy a different brand with the next baby.

5.0 out of 5 stars WORKS GREAT!!!!!, May 11, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Fisher-Price: 49 MHz Sounds 'n Lights Monitor (Baby Product)
I have had the Fisher Price Sounds 'N Lights Monitor for 8 months now and its great! I have read a lot of reviews about the different monitors and problems and from personal experience I would say that for the money, this monitor is wonderful. I have a friend who bought the $50 monitor and it works just the same as this one. If you don't keep them plugged in, like at night, yes, they will die. ALL of them, not just Fisher Price. So, if you like to waste money, buy the more expensive one!! With this one, it sits about 3 to 4 feet away from my sons head and I can hear every breathe and thats over top of his humidifer. I would suggest this product to EVERYONE!!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother!, February 3, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Fisher-Price: 49 MHz Sounds 'n Lights Monitor (Baby Product)
I've been through three monitors and this is the worst. The quality is definitely reflected in the price. I would only suggest it if you need a back up monitor to leave at a relative's occasional babysitter's home. The static is unbearable. It's worth springing for an expensive monitor.

4.0 out of 5 stars The lights make this one great!, November 27, 2004
This review is from: Fisher-Price: 49 MHz Sounds 'n Lights Monitor (Baby Product)
My son absolutely loves the light show. I like that the lights/sounds can be turned on with the receiver, and that you can choose to have nature sounds, music, or none. There is also a volume control which is nice.
The walkie talkie feature is also a plus. The only problem I have had is there is a lot of interference, so it can be a bit annoying if you are trying to sleep with the receiver next to you. (However, this seems to be a problem with many monitors). That said, I decided to keep the monior because of the light show. I received mine as a gift, but if I were to purchase another, I would get the same one, but with dual receivers.

5.0 out of 5 stars crystal clear and multi purpose, October 26, 2004
This review is from: Fisher-Price: 49 MHz Sounds 'n Lights Monitor (Baby Product)
This monitor is so sensitive that if the door to my room is left open, the receiver picks up sounds across the house. Its crystal clear, no static or white noise. Also if the house is rather noisy and I dont want the monitor up, I can turn it down and *see* the noises in that room due to the lights on the reciever. I like having the choice of hearing or seeing. Great value for the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ready for static!!!, March 6, 2004

Becky Klupp (Traverse City, Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fisher-Price: 49 MHz Sounds 'n Lights Monitor (Baby Product)
I just bought this monitor two weeks ago and it's awful. It worked fine for a few days and then the static came. I switched channels and the other channel was worse. When we would get up and move around the room the static would get louder or softer, depending on where you were you went to in the room. At night the static was so annoying it would keep me up. I would recommend you not buy this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor, April 3, 2004
This review is from: Fisher-Price: 49 MHz Sounds 'n Lights Monitor (Baby Product)
I am a first time mom so I have been very picky about the products that I have selected to use. I have to say out of all the monitors that I have researched this has got to be one of the best. I can hear my son clear as can be. I have found that in some areas of my home it does have a little static but if I just turn it a little the static is gone. I was most impressed with the fact that I could hear my son breathing with the monitor at leat 3 feet away from him. I can get a peaceful sleep knowing that this monitor is definatly going to pick up any noise that he makes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works like a 20.00 moniter should................, June 10, 2005
By
This review is from: Fisher-Price: 49 MHz Sounds 'n Lights Monitor (Baby Product)
Well you get what you pay for. I havent had any major complaints. The two things that spring to mind about this moniter are:
It eats up the batterys pretty fast. In about a week and a half I find myself replacing the batterys and when its pluged in the wall it has to much static to stand if your a light sleeper.
Also another thing I noticed is it picks up everything , backround noise and everything. I put the moniter near the window and I can hear people talking outside.
Overall I have to say for 20 bucks it works great. If your looking for something that will not pick up backround noise and has all the bells and whistles look for a moniter 40.00 and up.
