fun, but more useful for older children, February 3, 2003
This review is from: Fisher-Price Musical Fingerpaint (Toy)
My daughter received this for her 1st birthday. She absolutely loves the music and the gushy feel of the board, but she can't press hard enough to make any design and the little toys are better for clinking together and making noise. She can press hard enough to make the music and she likes when we draw and then she smashes it with her hands. I think that she will really enjoy this more when she is older. If you are considering this toy for a child younger than one I would strongly advise you to wait until they are older. It is a good toy, but really for children a little older. The toy is covered in a hardy plastic, but I wouldn't let them use it unsupervised. It seems like a pointy object could tear it and I would not like that mess. Also, the scroll eraser thing need a couple of moves to clear the screen and sometimes you have to do it with your own hand. Definitely too much for a 9 month old. I personally really get a kick out of the toy.

I bought this for my 2 year old quadruplets..they played with it alot at first and then became tired with it fairly quickly. It was not easy to make pictures on the screen, and they had to push down with their fingers pretty hard. When trying to erase the screen so they could make a new picture, we had to slide it back and forth over and over again and still did not have the screen totally cleared. My older son has always had a magna doodle and I thought that this would be good for the younger ones but after seeing how much my kids didn't enjoy it, I ended up throwing it away and buying them a small magna doodle as well.

Great concept, poor execution, February 24, 2002

...Great concept, but poorly executed. I wish I had checked...online before picking this up at my local [store]. The screen requires too much pressure for little fingers to draw anything on their own, but fortunately my son has figured out how to use the "pen" that comes with it to create some strokes on it. The easel is definitely the worst "feature" of the toy, since it will not support anywhere near the amount of pressure a little one would like to exert on it. I'd return it, buy my son like the music and does play with the shape sorter a bit...
