Product Description

Product Description

Delightful as it is innovative, the Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders swing entertains and soothes Baby in grand aquatic style. Designed as a cradle swing, it has the capacity to swing from side to side or front to back, at 6 different speeds. A motorized mobile with 4 plush marine animals features an overhead water globe, complete with changing lights and a moving underwater scene that's sure to fascinate your little one and enhance visual development. The 2-position, reclining padded seat has a 3-point safety restraint, a plush infant head support and a removable toy tray with bead bar. Choose from 8 songs and 3 soothing aquatic sounds (ocean waves, spring rain and babbling brook) to entertain Baby. Select the swing speed, music, sounds and volume, or change the swing's motion, all at the touch of a button. Handy storage pouch holds toys and accessories. Swing also folds easily for storage and portability. Seat pad is machine washable. Birth to once Baby is able to climb out. Imported. 43Hx38-1/2Wx28L".

Fisher-Price’s Aquarium-themed baby gear collection receives raves from most parents for offering multiple soothing methods without over-stimulating baby’s senses. The two-position seat on this swing reclines and rotates 90 degrees to rock side to side for newborns, simulating the movement of a cradle. The swing also props up and adjusts to move back and forth, providing comforting motion for older infants. Parents are sure to find a pace that works best to calm their fussy baby from among the swing’s six different speeds. If movement alone doesn’t work, the swing plays eight different songs and three relaxing ocean sounds at the volume level of choice. And, if that still doesn’t do the trick, there is an overhead water globe that catches baby’s eye with its swimming sea creatures and flashing lights or baby can watch the four plush fish encircle overhead on the motorized mobile. A toy tray with an attached bead bar entertains babies during waking hours. The soft seat pad and infant head support cushion baby comfortably and are covered in a fun aquatic fabric that is machine-washable. This swing supports babies that weigh between 0 and 25 pounds and requires four "D" batteries for operation. --Cristina Vaamonde

My wife and I just retired our Ocean Wonders swing now that our son has outgrown it and I think that we all felt that it was tough to see it go back into the box. We found that a swing is invaluable for a baby for several reasons:

1. The swing really soothed our son and helped him fall asleep and establish a daily nap schedule.

2. Sometimes you need to restrain your little one while you do something frivolous for yourself like, oh I don't know - eat. But if he or she isn't strong enough to sit in a pack n play, then a swing fits the bill well.

3. If the swing has a mobile or some other point of interest attached, then your baby can begin learning to focus on, follow and reach for objects while playing in the swing.

So now that we've established that a swing is mandatory baby gear, how does the Ocean Wonders rate? Very well except for a few minor points.

* Very sturdy and durable

* Really good activities above and in front of baby keep him/her happy and interested

* Multiple seat settings, both in terms of recline and in terms of the swing direction, i.e. front-to-back vs. side-to-side. This second point is surprisingly rare in swings, but you want to have all options when your feeling out your baby's preferences.

* Good battery life - we went almost two months between changes using it daily

* LOUD motor - you get used to it after a while as it's almost hypnotic, but when we first turned ours on, I thought that we must have gotten a defective one. After going back to the store and hearing the display (it hadn't had batteries when we initially bought), we realized that that's just how it is. It's comparable volume-wise to an average dishwasher running.

We received this swing as a gift when we were having our first and now that we are preparing for our second I remember how much I love this swing (and my daughter did too). The side to side (cradle) motion on this swing was a lifesaver as my baby never cared to swing forward and back. I did not like the music and therefore rarely used it but my daughter found the sound of the motor (a swooshing like sound) to be very soothing white noise. I did occasionally turn on the mobile as my daughter grew and she loved that. This is a very sturdy swing, cleans very well, and I liked the adjustable seat.

Buy this swing with confidence, you (and your baby) will not be sorry!

Please read this review before you purchase or register for this swing. I really wish I would have known more about baby gear when I registered. First of all, this swing was a lifesaver the first 3 months of my son's life. If I had written this review back then, I would haven given it 5 stars.

What really disappoints me, is that my son is a big baby. He is over 20 lbs now at 5 months old. He would love to continue using this swing, but it looks like it's going to fall apart now when he is in it. Going back and looking at the weight limit, it's only good for up to 25 lb babies. So here I have a 5 month old baby, that still needs to be swinging and no swing safe/strong enough to hold him. I recently purchased the Fisher Price Smart Stages 3 in 1 swing (Tightrope print) and love it. It goes up to 40 lbs and I wish I would have started off with it from the beginning. It would have saved us $100. Before you register, think of how long you would like your baby gear to last. I was clueless.

My daughter absolutely loves this swing. It did seem a little fast when she was a newborn (7 lbs 7 oz), but we used the portable swing mostly at that time. She has grown to really love the swing and most times it is the only place she really likes to sleep. She has been congested off and on for the last several months and when the doctor recommended that she sleep on an incline... this became the best place for her! It is at the same angle and hugs her like an infant car seat. I like the fact that I can change the swinging function, since she seems to like to swing one way during daytime naps and the other way in the evening.

However, I do have a few complaints:

* It eats batteries like crazy! I cringe everytime I think about the amount of money I have spent on batteries. Finally I found rechargeable D batteries and a charger. Still seems I am alternating batteries every couple of days.

* In the last 2 months it has started making a clicking sound and it seems to "tip" a little. The legs appear to be able to handle the motion, as it has never lead me to believe it would fall over with my baby girl in it.

*Today the motor for the swing died on us. She has still taken her naps and sat in it to look at the fish and light... but now I need to contact Fisher Price and see if they will send me a new motor or whatever )like they have done with others. Mine is about 7 months old (I received it as a shower gift a month before I had her) and I hope that I don't end up having to buy the new part, just because it has been that long. The swing should last me a little bit longer, I think anyway.

Given the chance, I probably would have bought this swing all over again.. unless I could find another one really comparable.
