Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Soothe and Glow Seahorse Blue

My husband wanted to get our baby a Gloworm. His desire was based on what he remembered of them from many years ago. The current Gloworms are not nearly as nice as they used to be - they play loud music and aren't nearly as cute.

When I found the Soothe and Glow Seahorse I was so happy! Firstly, it's cute, much cuter than the Gloworm models. Secondly, the music and sounds are also much much better - the music is quality and the volume can be adjusted. The sea sounds are a nice touch as well.

Unlike the Gloworm, the Soothe and Glow Seahorse actually does help baby wind down with it's gentle music and ocean sounds. I would recommend this toy any day.

I purchased this seahorse around January 2008. I almost returned it because, although it's nice that the music plays for around 5 minutes (we timed 6 1/2 minutes), I didn't want to keep it if there wasn't a way to easily turn off the music without it playing all the way through. There is no mention anywhere on the box or in the manual that you can turn off the music other than by going inside the velcro and turning off the on/off switch (and who would want to do that and wake up the sleeping baby with the loud velcro?) Then, by accident, we found that if you press and hold the seahorse's chest for several seconds the music will gently fade and turn off. I called Fisher-Price and let them know so hopefully they'll add this information to the box and manual soon. It's a bit "head heavy" which makes it a little hard to handle. It's not machine washable like the original Gloworm, only "surface washable". Great product overall. It's so darn cute.

We first bought a gloworm. Piece of junk if you ask me. The Soothe & Glow Seahorse is FANTASTIC! It plays music for 5 minutes as well as soothing ocean sounds like waves & bubbles. My kids love it! It was purchased for my now 4 month old (we bought him the gloworm originally that hardly played a song despite following all the directions)but my 20 month old is constantly stealing it to soothe him to sleep as well. This makes putting my kids to bed a piece of cake I never have to struggle to get my 20 month old in bed he just jumps right in as long as I have glowie the seahorse!

I fully credit this seahorse with getting my baby to soothe herself to sleep. I began turning it on each night during her bedtime feeding (she would always fall asleep when nursing). After doing this for a couple of weeks, I was able to put my baby in her crib while she was still awake -- as long as the seahorse was with her! There are a few reasons why this is such a great item for sleep association:

1. The light provides a gentle glow instead of a harsh glare.
2. There are two volume levels to choose from.
3. The music is VERY soothing.
4. After it plays for about six minutes, the light and the music SLOWLY fades away so there is no sudden silence to jar your baby.

My only complaint is that it doesn't play for a longer period of time. If it would play for 20 minutes or so, I think this product would be absolutely perfect. Nonetheless, I still believe this is a must-have item.

I ordered this because my sleep sheep broke. I loved that sheep because you could vary the length the white noise played. This seahorse is on for only about 7 minutes or so... It does have 2 loudness settings, super soft or super loud... nothing in between. I thought it was going to be a bit smaller. It's too large for my 4 month old to cuddle with. When I put it close to him he gets a little scared. It seems pretty durable. The outer casing comes off for washing, but not sure how the plastic tummy will do in the machine.
The control to switch it to louder/softer is really hard to reach as it's inside the casing. So you have to rip open the velcro and squeeze your finger around the side and feel for the tiny switch. Trying to see what you are doing is near impossible. Not something you want to do with a sleeping baby next to you!
The music being played is quite nice, but there is a scratchy pause between each tune kind of like an old radio static.
I think there are better musical sleep aids out there. This just has a high cuteness factor.

PROS: I bought this when my daughter was a newborn. Now she is 6 mos. old and still loves it! It plays soothing classical melodies with ocean wave sounds in the background. And the illuminated belly is mesmerizing to her. We keep it on the changing table for her so she has something to calm her and entertain her while changing her diaper or clothes. It's really neat to view it in a dark room when trying to get them to sleep too. It has an easy way to control on/off by squeezing the belly and the music last 5 min.
CONS: it's a bit heavy (in the head) and the back that velcros closed (Where you control the switches) doesn't always stay very tightly velcroed, so can look a bit awkward. Not much for baby to chew on - cuz you know they like to put everything in their mouth! And hard for an infant to cuddle/hold on to.
I chose this over the glowworm since it had more melodies and play options.

I bought two of these, one for a my friend's 1 yr old and one for my 4 yr old. My son LOVES this toy and sleeps with it every night. Lately his imagination picked up and he's been afraid of monsters and creatures but now that he has this, he says the light and music scares all frightening things including mosquitoes away.
I was concerned that the music would be too loud at night but it doesn't seem to effect him. He holds it tight and is soon asleep. The music, when on low, is still loud to me when the lights are off and there are no other noises to distract him. He loves it and carries it around even during the day.
The light is bright at night also but when turned to face away from my son and his eyes are closed, it doesn't seem to bother his attempts at falling asleep. I definately recommend this.

I was really surprised to see how much my 2 year old daughter loves it! The manufactures recommended age is 3 months and up so I thought it would be too much of a "baby toy" for an active toddler but I was wrong. She wont go to bed without it!! Great toy for the price, absolutely adorable!!!

Both of my toddlers have glo worms, so I decided to pick one up for my 3 month old so he would have something to soothe him in the dark when we go to sleep. I found this instead, and he loves it! His first reaction was a smile. I love that it plays more than one song, and the music is very soothing. The glow worm music tends to get on my nerves, but I actually like listening to this one. It's very soft and snuggly, and I like that the head isn't hard plastic so it won't clonk baby in the face if he snuggles it. The toddlers even like it better, so I will probably sell our gloworms in a garage sale and get a couple more of these.

We adopted our son at 18 months of age and it was a very difficult transition for him, leaving his birth country and his foster family. Needless to say, sleepy time was hard for him and we co-slept with him for the first five months. Once he was more secure, we began putting him down in his bed at night without us. It was terrible. Many tears - both his and mine. And I ended up not being able to put him down by himself because it was just too distressing for him. I bought the Soothe and Glow Seahorse on a whim, hoping it might help soothe him at night. WOW - what a shock I got when the first night I gave it to him, he went to sleep in his room by himself before the music was done playing! He has successfully been going to sleep on his own now for over a month, and he instantly reaches for his seahorse to comfort him. I am actually going to order another one so we have an extra, just in case something would happen to this one....

This is a great product - the music is soft, the glow of the light is soft and not too bright and the seahorse itself feels soft (not like there's something bulky in it). He understands that he can turn it off and on by pushing gently on its belly. It plays for around five minutes and shuts itself off, but we hear him playing it some nights for two or three sessions before we don't hear it anymore.

I highly recommend the Soothe and Glow seahorse! I only wish it had been around when my two older boys were this age!
