Better Than a Game Boy,

When my 5 year-old wanted a Game Boy my husband and I had some misgivings. We first worried that he was too young for one (although we see plenty of young kids playing with them) and we then worried about the endless hours associated with playing with a Game Boy and the mindless content of the games. Well, then the Pixter came out. This is a great electronic hand-held toy that teaches coordination and creativity. The pricing on the Pixter is great and I especially love that you can buy new software for under (price). I know some folks are saying that this is a great toy for 8 and up but my son has no trouble playing with this game and can easily change the software without help. This is a great toy for parents who want to give their kids a "travel" toy that is fun and educational.

I bought this for my 7 and 4 year old last Christmas. We were going on a long car trip and I thought it would keep them entertained. It was fun for the whole family and with the added software, they used it for hours. We had a hard time finding additional software until recently. We purchased the games on-the-go pack and enjoy competeing against each other. A lighted unit would be better, but it really is fun just the ways it is. My son is now 8 and still enjoys playing with it. We have never bought our kids the game boy products, but this seems to be an educational alternative when you buy the learning fun software. We have had it for a year now and it still works and the kids still play with it, which says a lot for a toy considering how many toys we have that a rarely played with.

We recently saw this and bought it for our just 4-year old before a long car trip. His 6 year old brother plays his gameboy in the car and we wanted something to keep the younger one occupied in a simliar way but thought he was too young for a gameboy. This was a real hit. He will play with it for hours and the kids even trade when they get board. We bought 2 of the cartridges (learning fun and animal safari) and they offer great variety. The adults even like to play with the Pixter too! The added bonus is that we have not yet had to change the batteries even after about 25 hours of play time. (You don't get that on the Gameboy!) I highly recommend this one.
