4.0 out of 5 stars Mixed but Successful New Block System
I'm responding to the one star review, primarily because that is MUCH too harsh a review.

Indeed, though, there is a real, potentially serious issue with the Trio blocks and that's the fact that they aren't super easy to assemble for some little hands. They take a bit more strength to attach, especially compared to Mega Blocks or Duplo. Parents WILL need to...

2.0 out of 5 stars Hard for kids to build with
I think Fisher Price makes great toys, but this one is really frustrating. The whole selling point was that it would be easier for kids to build on their own and I find these blocks really difficult for kids AND adults to use. They are very high quality and durable, but putting the legs and eyes and connectors in so that they are secure is really difficult for my 5 year...

4.0 out of 5 stars Mixed but Successful New Block System, August 9, 2009

I'm responding to the one star review, primarily because that is MUCH too harsh a review.

Indeed, though, there is a real, potentially serious issue with the Trio blocks and that's the fact that they aren't super easy to assemble for some little hands. They take a bit more strength to attach, especially compared to Mega Blocks or Duplo. Parents WILL need to help young ones with assembly, chances are, so beware of that.

There is a HUGE plus side to this, however. They are TOUGH. You can build something and it STAYS built. Kids can actually play with these sets and they'll more or less stay together. I found that my little guy eventually became very used to assembly and could easily put a fin or smaller link joint back on if it ever fell off. And eventually, he was building with the set, too, from scratch (that tougher linking takes getting used to, but he got used to it pretty quickly--he's not even four years old yet).

Mega Blocks and Duplo fall apart. Constantly. They fall apart if you look at them too hard.

Overall, I've been very happy with the set. It's well priced. You can build a lot of different things, with practice. And it's TOUGHER than just about any other set out there.

This won't help you buying online, but I noticed that boxed sets at stores have sample trios for you to try, built in right on the handle of the box. This might be worth feeling in person to get a sense of size and how easy or difficult it may be for your child to push these together or take them apart.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun to Build & Play - Good Price Point, September 12, 2009
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Fisher-Price TRIO Crazy Creatures (Toy)
This is a great toy. We quickly figured out how to build all of the bugs in the booklet and moved on to making some really fun & wacky stuff! The blocks snap together and come apart very easily. My 4-year-old sometimes needs help attaching legs, eyes and arms, but he can usually get them in far enough that they stay. I'm hoping those connections get looser with use over time. The finished structures stand up to being played with and knocked around. I can see how some parts might be difficult for a 3-year-old to assemble. Would recommend for 4+.

We picked up the Crazy Creatures TRIO set one day while in Target. My son, who is 4, absolutely loved it! In fact he loves them so much we picked up the 100 piece set today - good fun. Yes some of the pieces are a little challenging for him to get together, but I help when needed and we all have fun.

I think they are cool looking but completely under-deliver on the unique selling proposition that they used to get me to buy these. They are NOT easy for kids to work with on their own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun & educational for little ones!, August 15, 2009

My two older kids (ages 4 and 2.5) have had so much fun playing with these! The 4 year old likes Legos but I get tired of stepping on all the little pieces and worrying about them being choking hazards. These are much more age-appropriate and there are lots of ways to build. So far they have built houses, castles, boats, and the bugs of course. This set includes 54 pieces and is a good value. I had a coupon for [...] off from the Fisherprice website also. A booklet comes with the set that gives you pictures of 6 creatures you can create and it lists the blocks you will need so you can figure out how to build it. Even my 2.5 year old didn't have problems snapping them together, just needed some help breaking them apart. But that's fine with me, would rather have things actually stay together than have creations fall apart! Lots of fun and allows kids to use their imagination to create!

1.0 out of 5 stars Frustration, February 7, 2010
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Fisher-Price TRIO Crazy Creatures (Toy)
My 5 year old daughter received these in a gift exchange. She was so excited about building different creatures and the colors and durablility are a plus. However, after a 1/2 hour she was in tears from frustration! First, it's not a toy that a child can build alone. I don't mind doing things with her of course, but when she is independently playing this is not the toy to drag out. I had to connect all of the legs and eyes myself which was difficult for me (mom). I stated a couple of times "I can't believe the box states it's for ages 3 - 5." The cube pieces connected a lot easier. After we built two creatures, my daughter wanted to play with them. Move them around and such. They fell apart on numerous occassions in which I had to reconnect them. She finally broke down in tears from the frustration of them falling apart all the time and not being able to reconnect them herself.

Disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful building toy and my 4 yr old loves it, November 22, 2009

We bought one of these creature kits when we were going on vacation (to help entertain him on the long plane ride) and it turned out to be one of the best sets we have found so far. Others (like plain blocks, farm, log sets etc) were too limited in what he could create so he was bored with them in just a few days. This one holds his attention for a long time and he builds so many crazy things. We've had it for 3 months now and he is still playing with it every day. I also love that there are NO batteries required and that it is all imagination play.
He has no trouble putting the pieces together and then surprising me with what he has built. I would recommend this for any child over the age of 3 who has shown an interest in building things and does not put pieces in their mouths. The pieces are not too small but some kids put everything in their mouth. Fortunately, mine never has done that. I have purchased more of this product in different sets for christmas. I know he will be thrilled with more of them so he can build even more. I find that I love it myself and I enjoy playing with it just as much as he does. That is something coming from one who never played much when I was a child. :)

We bought this for our son's 3rd birthday and he loves it! Sometimes he still needs a little help getting a few of the pieces snapped together, but he loves using his imagination and building with the blocks! His 4 & 6 yr. old brothers are enjoying them, too! A great buy!

My 5 year old son has the big set and this set, he absolutely LOVES his Trio blocks. He first discovered them at pre-k and wanted a set for home. He and my 6 year old daughter play with them all day at our store while I work. He keeps adding more sets to his wish list on Amazon - these are a huge hit and hold his attention much longer than Legos. I highly recommend them!
