Fun, but not the best Peek-a-Blocks toy,

This review is from: Fisher-Price Peek-a-Blocks Sort and Roll School Bus (Toy)
My son received this bus for his first birthday. He has enjoyed all the Peek-a-Blocks toys we own and he likes this bus too. It has flashing lights, a hood which opens, a roller to spin, a sliding door, a stop sign which opens, an apple on a bendable pole and shape sorting for the fun school-themed triangle, square and circle blocks (two of each shape). It plays music when blocks go down the middle shoot of the sorter and when the bus is pushed or pulled by the handle.
While all of these features are fun, my son finds a couple of things frustrating. When he puts the triangle blocks in the shape sorter, they get stuck in the body of the bus below because the area is too narrow. Also, the squares are a bit taller than they are wide and deep so they won't fit through the sorter in one direction. My son doesn't seem to understand the difference in length and gets upset when the block will not go in. Lastly, the shape sorting panel comes off easily. My son pushes it off when he tries to put the blocks through and I frequently need to put it back on. I was also frustrated with a problem I had when we first got the toy. One of the two lights did not work. I called Fisher Price and they asked me to exchange it at a Toys R Us store. I did this and the new bus had exactly the same problem. I called again and they asked me to return it to them and they would send me a new one. I had to mail it at my own expense ($16) and was without the toy for three weeks. Fortunatley, the new one they sent me works fine and my son spends time playing with it every day.

I thought that this toy would be a lot more fun than it is. My 10 month old only plays with it a few minutes at a time (if that). He seems to like moving the stop sign and opening/closing the bus' window the best. I had to return the first bus that I bought, because one of the lights did not work. My son doesn't put the blocks through the shape sorter yet, but when I tested it I noticed that the triangle gets stuck and that all 3 shapes can fit through the square's opening. I hope that as my son gets older he'll use this toy more

We love FP toys and this was one of the toys we bought for our daughter when she turned 1. She is 14 months now and she hasnt touched it more than a couple times a week. We have the toy in the living room with alot of her other toys.
She loves the blocks it came with and she is not really into trying to sort the blocks, she hasnt really figured out how to pull the wagon along with her yet. The lights and sounds are intresting and she loves sliding the window on the side of the bus back and forth. She mostly uses this toy to sit on, she did this like the 2nd day we had it. She put her feet through the hood of the bus and she puts her bottom on the shape sorter. So other than using it as a chair, it was a waste of money.

So far our 7 month old son likes this toy. He watches the flashing lights, listens to the music and noises, and seems to like the different shaped blocks (we have several other peek-a-boo blocks). He uses the handle to push the bus, flips up the shape sorter and kicks at the wheels to make the music come on. It keeps his attention while he practices sitting up for long periods of time.
We thought at first we had a broken one since only one light worked and it didn't flash. Well after my husband pounded the light bar down on each side both lights came on and started flashing. It also made the hood stay shut better. So maybe try that before taking it back to the store if you encounter the same problem.

I bought this toy for my 6-month old son to grow into over the next year because it seemed to offer a variety of ways to learn and play. When putting it together Christmas morning the pieces did not snap together securely and kept falling off. Also, one light does not work. The poor construction of this toy is disappointing coming from Fischer-Price. I will be returning (not exchanging) this toy. Luckily my son is young enough that he will not miss it.

I also had the same problem with only one light flashing, but after a couple good hits, the other one started working. It sounds like this is a factory problem. My daughter is 7 months old and will usually only play with this toy for a few minutes at a time. I noticed you can only fit a few blocks into the shape flap before they start getting stuck. The hood flap also doesn't fit very well. It's not a bad toy, but I think there are other toys out there for this price that an infant might find more appealing.

My baby loves this toy, all the lights work fine and the 6 school blocks are so cute! I have no complaints. Baby plays with it everyday!

I bought this for my daughter and I too had one light that worked, my husband had to take light apart and play with the wires and somehow got the lights to work. I am not crazy about the bar where the blocks go because it keeps falling off along with the hood on the front of the bus. My daughter barely plays with it and the music only plays when we turn the bus on. Needless to say I am very disappointed with this toy.

I gave my father-in-law a couple ideas for my son's (1 year old) Christmas gift and this was one of the items. Boy do I regret giving him this as an idea. It is a cheaply constructed toy. The bus's hood doesn't even work correctly. The toy does not do much of interest and it constantly makes this annoying noise! The toy held my son's attention for less than 5 minutes. My suggestion to anyone considering this toy is there are many more worthwhile toys on the market- skip this one!

Blocks might be a bigger hit than the bus,

My son got this bus for Christmas. He really does love it - his favorite thing to do is to take the blocks in and out of the bus. He hasn't used the shape sorter yet - he has only put the blocks down the middle chute to make it play a song. The triangle blocks do get stuck unless you put them in sideways. I hadn't noticed that the square block only fits through the shape sorter in one direction, as another reviewer mentioned. That might be frustrating for a baby trying to learn!
The lights and sounds on my bus work fine. I do have trouble with my son pulling the hood off of the bus. It never seems to want to stay snapped in. The blocks that come with the bus are adorable. Really, my son probably plays with those more than the bus itself. But he does like the bus - he will push it to make it play the songs (which aren't too annoying, especially on the quieter setting). I can see why some posters aren't happy with this toy - but my son likes it, so I'm giving it 4 stars. |
