I don't think I'd recommend it,

When my son hit about 16 pounds, the left leg started lifting up a bit each time it swung to the right. Its getting worse now that he is almost 17 pounds. I can't imagine using this up to 25 pounds if its that unsteady now. The design that makes it so easy to turn it from side-to-side swinging to front-to-back swinging leaves the seat (and the baby in it) leaning to one side. Not enough that he would fall out, but he isn't comfortable. And what is the point of the tray? There are no toys on it and even if there were the seat does not sit up enough for him to be able to reach them. What I do like: the music, volume settings and the swing-away mobile. The batteries last a long time too.

Someone bought this for my shower. We had the Rain forest travel swing too. My son liked the little swing better. This one just wasn't fast enough to please him. It also takes 4 D Batteries which if you ask me is little much ecspecially when they run out so fast. If your going to spend the extra money on a bigger swing, I would suggest the Rain forest one. It plugs right into the wall, so no batteries. Also the mobiles much cuter, and they can actually see it.

Our Baby Likes It,

This review is from: Fisher-Price Precious Planet Open Top Cradle Swing (Baby Product)
I have read reviews of other swings and compared to the raves of some parents, we are underwhelmed. That said, our baby will sit in this swing for 10-20 minutes and be entertained by the music, swinging and the mobile. The seat is adjustable - there is a more sitting position and one that is more laying. The mobile is a bit on the slow and non-flashy side, but he still seems to enjoy watching the turtle, fish, and whale go in a circle. I would suggest that Fisher Price make the faces more engaging and high contrast which infants seem to prefer. You can't even see the whale's eyes from the swing, which defeats the purpose of a face for the baby to look at. I like how the speed of the swinging is adjustable, and the batteries seem to last a long time. We have to put a rolled up blanket under our baby's head to make sure that he is comfortable, but I'm not sure this could really be fixed by making the swing better. I think it is just hard to make a baby's head comfortable before they have good head control. The swing is cute enough looking. Early on, it did not have any balance problems, but in recent weeks one side of it lifts off the ground a little big when it is swings faster. A bit annoying, but doesn't seem dangerous or to bother baby. Overall, decent swing, although it doesn't strike me as the most amazing thing ever. That said, it is nice to have a few free minutes while little one swings to take care of other things without a baby in arms. I would recommend it to a friend.

A must for anyone that wants to keep their sanity with a newborn....,

My sister bought this for me as a gift, she has the same swing and she thought I would like it as well.
Let me just say that, the first time I put my son in it, he peed, all over. After that we learned to just set the swing to a tolerable motion to keep him from peeing everywhere again. The only thing I didn't like about this swing was that it was strictly battery powered (but there are plug in options with the similar swing in a different style). I liked the way you could turn the seat in different directions, back and forth, or side to side. It helped keep me sane on those days that my son wouldn't lay down for a nap, I could put him in there and he would sleep for an 1-3 hours(and before you judge me, I have heard of people leaving babies in a swing over-night, it's all dependent on what your pediatrician says). It folds up nicely and wasn't too heavy to move around so I could carry it upstairs or downstairs depending on where I wanted to put the baby. I enjoyed the 2 sets of music, I never put it on the "nature" sounds though, didn't really like the sounds. Putting it together was a 2 man job, but dismantling it was a lot easier. I liked this swing a lot and would recommend it to anyone who is debating on this swing or another.

I received this swing as a gift and I am extremely disappointed in it. I have all the other Precious Planet products and I love them. This swing took a while to put together and when we finally finished, it is crooked! It's put together the correct way, but I can't swing my daughter in a crooked swing, it looks like she is going to fall out! I would definitely not reccommend this product, go for the cheaper precious planet travel swing, it works great!

Tilted seat!,

This swing is fine when used in the sideways swinging position, but when you turn the seat to the forward-swinging position, the seat is tilted inward toward the structure of the swing, causing the baby to tilt sideways. There seems to be some problem with the way the swing is designed.

I bought this swing because it was the only one in the store that you could change to swing side to side as well as front to back. We have a travel size fisher price swing but my 2 month old son has hated it since birth. We decided to try the side to side motion to see if he liked that better.
We've only had it a few days so he is still getting used to it, but he definitely prefers it over the other we have. We haven't had any problem with the seat leaning when in the head to toe position as I've read on some other reviews. It works just fine either way you have it. I like the light up swing speed indicator. There is volume control for the music/sound. The songs are pretty generic but that's ok. The nature sounds are cool. Beach waves with birds and the occasional whale/dolphin sound. I also like that you can turn the seat either left or right. That's something you can't do with the papasan swing. It only turns one way. I do wish it was a/c power instead of batteries only, but that is not a real problem. We are not going to be using it for hours a day anyway. Another bonus is we have the precious planet mobile for the crib, so I can change out the animals on the swing mobile with the ones on the crib mobile. Good way to keep things interesting. It doesn't really take up much more room than the travel swing. Yes, it's taller and slightly wider, but not a considerable amount. It fits in the exact same spot we had the other swing. So no problem there. Putting it together was super easy. I did it myself in just a few minutes. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to others.

Not worth it!,

I bought this swing @ BRU, brought it home & I did not like it.
It does not look comfortable. Tilded when in head to toe swing position. Mobile is not positioned so that the baby can comfortably look at it. Not much to look at anyway. But returned it and bought the Starligh Papasan swing & LOVE IT! Much more roomy & baby looks like he's vey comfotable in it. My sister has the same one & is vey happy w/ it too. Plus the Startling comes w/ AC adapter - which is GREAT because Fisher-Price baby gear sucks up batteries like crazy!

Gets the job done but not much else.,

Judging just from pictures and seeing similar products, this swing appeared strong but light. Upon retrieving it from my doorstep I realized it was pretty heavy for what looks like just a bunch of tubes. (In my newborn-induced sleep deprivation I missed the product weight in the description). Assembly was fairly straightforward, nothing much to say about that. The finished product is one of gigantic proportions. I definitely recommend going to a store and viewing one before you purchase it. Yeah, Amazon tells you the dimensions and you can kinda guess what it'll look like. But the actual floorspace it takes up is something that should be considered. There's no plug-in option to replace the 4 monstrous D batteries it requires. The 4 screws to remove the battery cover is kinda overkill. Just the battery cover alone makes up half the removable hardware.
However, all gripes aside, the swing works just as it should: It swings. It keeps our newborn content until he figures out nobody is actually there swinging him. The mobile turns really slow but enough to grab his attention. The music has 6 recognizable soothing tunes and 6 more "playful" ones. The nature sounds are a beach ambiance and what sounds like another beach ambiance but with different birds. The sound quality is decent at best. The main reason we got this swing was because it wasn't the played-out rain forest theme. It looks good in its final form and looks better when it keeps your baby asleep long enough to make a meal, have a few drinks, or whatever it is you want to do between baby naps. So for the serious buyers consider your floorspace would be the only advice I would have. Otherwise it gets the job done. Good luck. |
