I bought this last year for my then 2-year-old son when it first came out for [...] Since I ordered it on Amazon, sending it back would mean losing out on a big chunk of what I paid for it in return shipping, so we just kept it. It was one of the worst toy purchases I have ever made. The puppy's voice is not very pleasant, in my opinion, and upon loading up the software you'll find that at least 80% of the names available to give your puppy are female names. It's not that big of a deal, but my son wanted his puppy to be a boy and the voice sounds like a boy, so I didn't quite get the lack of male names on the software. My major gripe is the total lack of variety. On the first day, the puppy says only 2 or 3 different things. As he grows, he says one new thing each day and repeats all the others. It gets extremely repetitive very fast. The bone and brush (if you can manage to not lose them) are fun at first because the puppy says something specifically about the item, but the bone is tricky to get in the right spot. You have to push it against his nose more than put it in his mouth. Still, it made my son giggle quite a bit when the puppy burped the first few times after having the bone. The growing aspect is also lacking. It does not grow as much as you're led to believe. A few inches is about it. And due to all the mechanical parts that make this puppy tick, it is hard as a rock and not cuddly in any way. My son used to try to drag him around the house and it's just silly seeing him drag this heavy, stiff animal around. He did enjoy him the first few days, but now the puppy is lucky to get his attention once every few weeks. I cringe every time I think of all the other quality toys I could have gotten him for what I paid for this. Not recommended!

I bought this for my almost 3 year old daughter for Christmas and it has been a huge hit. She loves dogs anyway, so this gives her her very own to take care of. Since my daughter loves dragging it around, I'm not sure how long it will work properly. She has the carrier also and loves putting her puppy into it. The dog is a bit hard under its soft fur, but we expected that, being the kind of toy that it is. My only disappointment was with the fact that you had to choose one of the dog names off the list/software, and couldn't create one of your own. Thankfully, my daughter was agreeable to almost anything at the time. A cute toy overall.

My 5 year old daughter received this puppy for Christmas. It is fantastic! She loves playing with it. It keeps her attention and she loves feeding it and hearing it say her name. It does not come with the USB cable but we had one on hand so it worked out great! My daughter loves to watch it grow as well and speak her name. Great gift idea!!

My daughter loves this toy and couldn't put it down for the first few days. I would never have paid full price for it, but at $20ish, it was a great buy.

My almost 5-year-old daughter got this gift from Santa this Christmas and loves it. She was most interested in the puppy the first week, when she carried it everywhere with her. The songs and phrases repeat frequently, which makes it a little annoying for the adults. However, it's definitely a keeper as far as fun goes. We also got the puppy for a friend with the name Atlee. Of course, the puppy did NOT know her name (although it seems to know a lot of international names!), but we were good with my daughter's name of Lauren. She said right away that she wanted to name the puppy "Snowflake," which was one of the puppy's several hundred options of names.

My Daughter is crazy for Dogs right now, so when I saw this on Amazon, I was excited and ordered it right away...after I ordered it, I was leary because I read the reviews...one review had concerns of not having their childs name...I thought "great, what if they don't have the name Carmen, because I have a hard time finding her name on anything" When it arrived, I popped in the disk, it had her name...I was ecstatic, and knew Carmen would be excited to her it say her name...in order to program it, to be a surprise for Carmen, I had to name the puppy...there were lots of names to choose from...the only problem I encountered was I didn't have the right usb cable to do the download, so I borrowed one from a friend...I programed the puppy, set it out on Christmas Morning from Santa, and Carmen loves it!

Do not buy this. Nowhere in the description does Fisher-Price say that the toy won't work as advertised if you don't go online and register your child's personal information. The dog won't grow and doesn't do anything unless you do that. My daughter-in-law does not want to tell the world wide web that she has a four year old child and then give hackers and pederasts his personal information. So now all the my grandson has is a stiff dog that cost me $60. What a rip-off!Also mad at Amazon - production descriptions on many items not sufficient, but you don't find that out until you've spent the money and given the gift.

How can you sell a programmable puppy toy without the USB cord needed to program it? I feel jipped! Even if it was in the item description (which if it was I missed it) but it is just ridiculous to not have it come along in the package! Last thing I want to do right before Christmas is hunt down a USB cable. Come on toy makers quit trying to make the extra buck!

The first week it worked fine. Then it got "stuck" on just one saying. I reset it numerous times, took the batteries out and changed them and redid the p/c disk. Nothing worked. Also, she thought the voice was scary and it's body was hard, not soft and cuddly; it's very heavy for a 4 year old to carry around. I felt it would be too much trouble and cost too much to send it back.

I gave each of my two pre-school nieces this as gifts after having been told by one of them that they'd love to have a puppy(her parents told her she couldn't have one yet). I was told that their eyes lit up when they received them and they loved them!
