There are better playmats out there., December 30, 2008
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies and Lights Deluxe Gym (Baby Product)
I have twins, and bought two playmats - this one and the Tiny Love. I have to say the Tiny Love wins hands-down, though this one does have some nice features. I would give it 5 stars if it only had more toys on it to hold baby's attention, but it is very sparsely populated in the toy department.
Pros:
has nice music and a couple of flashing lights
has a detachable monkey which the babies LOVE - they try to eat him every chance they get
babies also like the elephant rattle and spinning wheel toy
babies like looking at the playmat animals during tummy time - very cute design!
Cons:
There definitely aren't enough toys on this! If they don't want to include more toys, at least include enough toy holders so you can add your own.
The toys that are included aren't all that interesting, with the exception of the three I mentioned.
The mirror on the giraffe points in the wrong direction - not toward the center of the mat as in the ad, but parallel with the edge, a position in which the baby would never be. I have to hold the mirror for baby to see herself during tummy time. No way to get it to point in the right direction.
To my horror, I turned around to see baby holding the mirror that had fallen out of the red frame and was about to chomp down - it's a thin, very sharp disc. Baby would easily have cut herself. It's constantly falling out - I've had to restick that $@#! thing a dozen times and watch the babies like a hawk. I've tried to glue it in, but need stronger glue I suppose.
The butterflies at the top should spin - seems like they are supposed to spin, since they are on a mobile that rotates - but they do nothing, and are too high up for babies to reach. Are we supposed to spin it for the babies? It's in an awkward position for this. Maybe mine is broken.
Overall I'd say this is cute, but kind of worthless overall and expensive. There are much better playmats out there. I have the rainforest bouncy seat which the girls absolutely love, which is why I bought this playmat, but now wish I hadn't.

Great playmat!!!!!, June 9, 2007
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies and Lights Deluxe Gym (Baby Product)
My son has been using this playmat since he was 2 months old. He is now 7 months and still reaches for it daily. He has learned to flip it over so he can reach the higher toys. I have yet to replace the batteries and everything still works great. The music plays for quite a while so you don'thave to keep running over to restart it. My son also loves the crinkle leaf and zebra tail on the mat itself. Since he has been rollling over, he can now chew on them and it is one more thing to keep him occupied! I highly recommend this line of products!

Awesome Play Gym!!!, April 27, 2009
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies and Lights Deluxe Gym (Baby Product)
Length:: 1:04 Mins
My daughter loves this product. At first she laid there and looked at the lights and the she started hitting the toys, which eventually turned into grabbing them. Now at three months she is turning ove on her side to get to the toys better, she is almost turning over.

Not the best activity gym out there, June 25, 2007
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies and Lights Deluxe Gym (Baby Product)
My baby's not here yet, so I can't comment on how well a baby likes this, but this gym is not nearly as nice as the gym we had with our last child (Tiny Love Gymini Deluxe). I was tempted to spend the extra money on Tiny Love again, but decided to give Fisher Price a try. My main complaints with this gym are the fact that it does not fold up for storage (without taking it apart that is and doesn't fit well in the plastic bag it comes in even when partially taken apart) and the fact that the mat is very thin. If you can afford it at all, I would recommend going with a Tiny Love instead, as they have nice thick mats and fold up easily into their bag for storage, which is very convenient!

Contains Flame Retardants (Analysis by Healthytoys.org), July 1, 2009
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies and Lights Deluxe Gym (Baby Product)
This toy looks great and my son enjoyed playing with it until I checked it out on Healthytoys.org and found that it contains the flame retardant and toxin bromine. This is very unfortunate since the chemical can cause nervous system and thyroid damage. I will not purchase anything now without making sure it has been tested to be safe. Fisher-Price denies that there baby products contain flame retardants but there 9 test done on different parts of this product by Healthytoys.org and all showed that it contains bromine. Mattel who owns Fisher-Price was recently fined for distributing toys that contain lead: http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/retail/2009-06-05-mattel-fine_N.htm

great!, May 15, 2007
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies and Lights Deluxe Gym (Baby Product)
My baby has been fascinated with the lights and hanging animals since 6 weeks. Nice music- more upbeat songs for when active, and quieter rainforest sounds for when getting sleepy.

Love it :), February 27, 2009
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies and Lights Deluxe Gym (Baby Product)
This is a great buy! It keeps my 4 month old boy entertained for hours everyday. I can just put him in there and forget about him for at least 20 minutes till the music stops then he starts whining so I turn the music back on and he's happy again. He loves it! In fact, I love it so much that I sometimes pretend I'm a little baby and play in it too :)
Our pediatrician suggested that I put my son on his tummy for 10 to 15 minutes a day for play time, but my son would cry the second I put him face down, until I bought this gym. I put him on his tummy in front of the mirror hanging from the giraffe and it worked like a charm, for the first time ever my son was on his tummy and smiling :)
I highly recommend this product. The toys are really nice. The music and the nature sounds are also great, although the low volume is still a bit high, but it doesn't bother me at all. I love that you can change the position of the toys or you can hang any of your other toys to the loops on the arcs, just be careful what you're hanging (make sure it's safe and doesn't have any strings or anything that can wrap around your baby's neck or any small parts that can come loose and become a chocking hazard).
In response to some of the negative points mentioned by other reviewers:
- The gym comes with a sealable plastic bag. It can be easily disassembled and stored in that bag. It may be slightly big but it's flat so it won't take up much space in your closet.
- It may not be very sturdy but it is certainly sturdy enough that it won't fall apart while your baby is playing with it (as long as it's assembled properly).
- The mat is not very well padded but I believe that it's safer this way for tummy time, and it shouldn't be a problem if you place it on a rug or a carpet.
Hope you and your baby enjoy this as much as we did!!
(Sorry for the long review)

Loads of fun!, December 13, 2007
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies and Lights Deluxe Gym (Baby Product)
My little guy has loved this gym since he was 8 weeks old. At that age, he couldn't really interact with it, but loved looking at the lights and the butterflies, which I had to manipulate manually. Now that he's almost five months old, he enjoys hitting and kicking the elephant rattle and swatting the parrot toy! His favorite parts have got to be the removable toucan and monkey--they go with him everywhere! And they're so easy to wash (and they air dry beautifully) after he's chewed on them. The mat washes nicely as well.
The rainforest sounds are gentle and soothing and have lulled him to sleep when he finished playing. There are parts of this play gym that he has not noticed yet such as the crinkle leaf and the cubs tail (both attached to the mat) and the toys can be placed in different areas so that play is always different and interesting, so I expect him to continue enjoying this play gym for a long time.

Worth the extra money, August 20, 2007
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies and Lights Deluxe Gym (Baby Product)
My three month old loves this gym. She isn't very good at entertaining herself yet, but she kicks and plays happily in this gym. The toys are easy to move around and keep her attention so mom can get a thing or two done around the house!
The music is much less annoying than many other toys & the nature sounds actually sound pretty nice. It also is great for tummy time. This product could replace a tummy time mat, a bouncer seat & many other toys.
I'd recommend spending the extra money to get this over a less expensive gym.

The Greatest Toy Yet, August 12, 2007
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies and Lights Deluxe Gym (Baby Product)
I bought this gym for my daughter when she was 4 months old. It showed up the day that she got her 4 months shots. She was very fussy so I put her in the gym and she completely forgot about her discomfort. She loves to play with the toys that hang down and has the best time. There is not a day that goes by that she does not play in the gym. She even will let you know that it is time for her to play in her gym. So far this in the best toy I have found!
