4.0 out of 5 stars Very good for a portable
I'm glad I didn't read the reviews here before I bought this swing because if I had, I might have chosen a different product. I really wanted the full sized Rainforest swing but it was out of my price range, plus I wanted it for soothing my daughter, not stimulating, and it seemed like the full sized had a bit too much going on for that. I'm wondering if Fisher Price has...

I purchased this swing because we were out of town and it was much needed. We have the full sized Papasan swing and the travel Ocean Wonders swings at home (which in retrospect, we were wishing we brought with us). While neither of those are 100% perfect, they are much better than this one. The open frame allows the child to kick the swing frame, stop the swing from moving, and potentially get their feet/legs stuck in between the bars. ALso, the swing seat almost lays horizontal (with the foot part of the swing MUCH higher than the head position)while swinging, to the point that I am afraid if my daughter would wiggle a bit, she would end up tipping the seat backwards and land on the floor. Lastly, the mobile is horrible. It's pitiful and I find it hard to believe that Fisher Price put something like that on the market. It's a plastic leaf that has little notches for two toys on strings. The strings have a not on the end of them and you slide it into the notches. These toys remain on the notches for approximately 3 seconds. It's a very poor design and needs a LOT of work. And my daughter ends up in a crumbled up ball on one side of the swing more times than not - it doesn't seem to have the support that our other 2 swings have.

That said, the swing is very attractive and appealing. I only wish it were better made and more thought out.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did not like this swing, March 20, 2007
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Open Top Take-Along Swing (Baby Product)
I tried this swing then this Fisher-Price's Open Travel Swing. In both swings my baby would lean forward and fold himself in half in the seat. The Jungle swing was difficult to haul around since it didn't stay closed well and the "palm tree" was always in the way. Finally I bought the Fisher-Price Aquarium Swing. I found the seat of the Aquarium swing to be deeper and it clicks in place (so it won't fold over on baby) and it is easier to assemble and haul around.

Like the other person said, the swing is pretty much horizontal and cannot be adjusted. The mobile is pretty boring. Love the size and portability of it though. It says it's made for babies up to 25lbs but kid is only 13lbs and she's almost too long to be in it so unless your baby is really short and chubby it won't last that long. Cute colors and music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good for a portable, September 26, 2007
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Open Top Take-Along Swing (Baby Product)
I'm wondering if Fisher Price has improved the item since some of these reviews were written as I'm not finding any of the problems other reviewers describe. First, the seat is not horizontal, obviously it's not a 90° upright chair because it's a swing but the head is considerably higher than the foot, even when the swing is at its furthest arc (it is just about possible to put it on backwards, in which case it would hang with the foot slightly higher than the head). The toys do not fall off the mobile roof, in fact when I had to take it apart to return the first one I bought (faulty screw would not come out of the battery compartment - company exchanged with no question) I had trouble getting them off. To be fair, it's not a mobile, it's a toy bar but the moption of the swing whips the brightly colored toys around giving baby something visual to look at without it being overly distracting. I don't notice a huge amount of difference in the incremental speeds though the first and fifth are quite different. My daughter is 11lbs and 2 months and it fits her well with what looks like plenty of room to grow, and her weight doesn't seem to slow it down much. In fact when we first turned it on I thought even the slowest speed looked a bit too fast but she doesn't seem to mind. The music is a bit tinny and annoying but you can mentally tune it out after a while - it's not rainforest sounds either, just a medley of the usual suspects (Beautiful Dreamer, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star etc.) with some birds sounds and frog noises added. It's very easy to put together out of the box, it all clicks together quite securely and there are just two screws to tighten. The swing mechanism clicks while it's running sometimes but I discovered that if you gently pull the legs out to make sure they are fully extended (just a millimeter or two can make the difference) the clicking goes away. All in all I'm very happy with this purchase.

I would not recommend putting your baby in this swing--I had my son in it, he slumped over and his head became wedged between the frame and swing arm. The swing was still trying to swing, pushing his head into the bar. Thankfully I was nearby and able to remove him quickly. I called Fisher Price, they were more than helpful and apologetic and are in the process of testing my swing for "product integrity"...however, I would definitely advise finding a different product--this was a scary experience with an infant!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not purchase this swing, January 25, 2007
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Open Top Take-Along Swing (Baby Product)
I purchased this swing because we wanted something to take back and forth to our parents house. Though I am VERY sorry I purchased it. When you place the baby in the swing- the seat lays almost flat/horizontal (with the foot part of the swing MUCH higher than the head position??)Very weird?? While it swings, I am afraid my daughter could end up tipping the seat backwards and land on the floor. Also, there is no head support. On the box it says that it is age appropriate from birth to 25lbs- THIS IS NOT the case. My daughter is only 4 months old and she can hold her head- but not too great yet and there is NO HEAD support with this swing. My daughter ends up leaning way over to one side of the swing- it doesn't seem to have the support that other swings have. I have another swing the head support and positioning of the way the swing sits is MUCH BETTER. To add- the mobile is horrible. It's really pitiful and hard to believe that Fisher Price put something like that on the market. The entire swing has a poor design to it.

My 6 week old really likes this swing. She'll even sleep in it either on or off. I have to make sure I buckle her in every time. If not she slumps over to the side and the swing leans dangerously forward. I'm guessing it's because it bends in so many places allowing it to be portable and fold up. The stuffed toys on top fall off very easily and I'm surprised that I haven't lost them yet. I only use this swing on setting #1 as the others are too fast; I guess for heavier babies. Baby likes it so it works for me. I would probably buy this swing again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Space Saver, Convenient, January 22, 2009
By
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Open Top Take-Along Swing (Baby Product)
My daughter is now 9 months old, and we don't use this swing as much, but we certainly got our money's worth out of it. Living in a small space, it's perfect. It hardly takes up any floor space, which is great, and also folds up easily to be stored away. For this reason, it's also easy to move from room to room, which proved to be a great way to keep our daughter entertained and close to us. The batteries seem to have lasted us a long time. For a few of her first nights she slept in this swing for hours, when nothing else worked, and the battery life never failed us! We also did not feel like she was ever moving faster than she enjoyed, which is a problem others have experienced. This swing got us through some tough nights, and also some fun days!

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute for little little babies, December 8, 2008
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Open Top Take-Along Swing (Baby Product)
We got the swing as a baby shower gift, and have used it a lot for our 3 month old daughter. It swings really slowly (due to her weight), and she's still just under 12 pounds. It did work great for her when she was really little, but her head can flop over to the side, so that her ear rests on her shoulder/chest, so she's not real secure in it. We keep her propped with washcloths under the headrest to keep her little head in place if she's sleeping. It's really good with portability, and is a decent value for the price, but I'm sure there are much better/longer usability models out there...

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this swing, March 13, 2008
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Open Top Take-Along Swing (Baby Product)
We use this swing as our main swing. It is portable and easy to move around. The seat is large enough that my daughter can have a toy to play with in it with her. Depending on how much you use it you may have to change the batteries every few weeks. I don't use the music much but always have it on the highest swing setting. I love this swing becasue I can move it around the house with me.
